Amazing how "one more" one night in August 2002, turned into 8 years of 5 star classics from Michaels on the regular.
James James Hmm let's see, Jericho at XIX, Benoit & Triple H at XX, Angle at 21, several Cena matches in 07, his matches against Jericho in 08, Undertaker at 25 & 26? Yep, all those mediocre matches.
Hell, dont forget the tv matches with Shelton Benjamin, and Rey Mysterio. They had the same finish, but still killer
James James not fair. Sure he wasn’t the same as 96 but he was still consistently having awesome matches. Was a candidate or won match of the year almost every single year of his return
So true, the no 1 reason to keep watching post attitude era
@James James u must be a fan of the trash they show today
Summerslam 2002 still to this day is the best wrestling show I've ever seen
I think 2002 was the last really strong complete year for the WWE
I think 2004 and 2005 were also very solid
@@39moe123 I was watching in 2004 and 2005 but it was nowhere near the Austin rock days. Cena was ok as doctor of thuganomics Michael's was performing well HHH was controlling everything. Something just felt off though.
Yes and maybe to the first quarter of 03 because of the stacked roster with the rock, Austin, Goldberg, hogan, hbk, Lesnar, Triple h etc. after wrestlemania 19 shit was going downhill
@@AD-ur1fk that sounds more like it. After 19 it was tough sledding, ruined Goldberg, I liked the return of Nash and evolution but it was just missing something.
2016 was fantastic
I still remember watching this match. I was absolutely blown away by Shawns performance. He literally hadn’t missed a beat
True story about that match... I think I was thirteen me and my dad had been watching wrestling for years we'd watch WWF/E on the regular we both thought that match would be bad.. We were instantly hooked.. And one by one my entire family stopped what they were doing and by the end of the match everyone was in the living room watching that match just hooked.
One of my all time favorite matches!
HBK didn't miss a beat even wrestling in jeans.
@@fmthebaron HBK carried Paul/HHH
Can you imagine Bruce and Conrad being a gimmick tag team?! “In this corner, weighing in at a combined 700 pounds....RUMOR....and... INNUENDO!!!”
Combined 700 pounds? Conrad takes 700 calorie bites.
@@user-sb2tb9oe7d 😂
😂😂😂
Weighing in at allegedly well over 800 pounds... Conrad and Bruce, Rumor, and Innuendo!
I remember being so excited by the return of HBK, but I was also really concerned that he'd be a shadow of his former self. He definitely didn't disappoint. My only regret is that he never had another heel run(other than the brief one against Hogan) HBK was a brilliant heel.
Was that heel turn just for the ppv thou
I was 11 years old when I watched this match back in 2002 with my mom and dad ...
That match was one of that last real great "must see" moments in wrestling.
Easily Triple H's best match.
Just a masterpiece of story telling.
4 and 3 Quarters my ass, that was a 5 star classic
If that's what you think it is, then that's what it is. Don't rely on someone else's opinion.
Would be 6 stars now days ;)
By today's standard it would be 6 stars. The match happened during an era where the house was being torn down a lot in the ring.
Fuck Meltzer....he wouldn't know a 5 star match if HBK superkicked his teeth in.
@@dallasparty316 you say that, but it seems to be what's constantly looked to as a guide behind a match
The goat always delivers in a big match!
Triple h vs Shawn micheals was a great rivalry it made a lot of sense to me seeing how close they were together.
i like the spot when shawn pulled out a ladder from under the ring and he was like......"now what am i gonna do with this??"
RowlexEnterprise I love when he does it in the Cell match in 04 and he has this evil smile on his face
He also said "Do you remember me now?" when he dove off the top rope onto HHH on a table .. Brilliant !
grew up watching Shawn, definitely as a favourite as a kid and I'd consider it the best come back ever. It was a HUGE surprise.
‘Take your pills bruce’ haha
This was in my opinion the last great feud wwe ever produced. It was such a great build up and match.
One of the best matches in WWE history.
First WWE PPV I ever brought. I wasn’t disappointed by any means
Shawn was trained for his comeback by personal trainer and wrestler, Prince Fontenot, who ran an independent promotion in San Antonio at the time. Prince, as a trainer, is intense, and he could not only train Shawn in the gym but workout with him in the ring, which is exactly what Shawn needed.
That’s incredible intel. Thanks for that!
@@destor23 shawn didn't train much in the ring before his return. Shawn and HHH tried to practice in Stamford but shawn did not get into it. Shawn's thought it would just have to happen come game time
@@dallasparty316 It really is amazing how gullible fans are. The actual participants tell the same story of HBK feeling physically insecure, where if he's going to get hurt, let it be on the night, it's a one-off, and going to be a brawl to hide any rust...and some nobody tells a tall tale and it becomes fact
I didn't think Shawn Michaels would make a full-time return to the WWE. He returned for 8 years. I think the second half of his career was better than the first half and he left the business on a high note, and on his terms.
In his first run he was way better. He did so many more moves and was so on top of his game.
Between 95 and 97 no one could touch HBK his in ring ability was second to none
His return was impressive but let’s not be ridiculous, first run Shawn leading up to 98 was one of the greatest of all time when it comes to attitude, look, athleticism, confidence, passion, the entire package. Religious 2nd run Shawn personality and promo wise was pretty blah
@@KliqDon1983 facts
@@Nightowl333 yeah but he had the best wrestlemania matches in his second half....hbk v chris jericho, the triple threat with benoit and hhh, kurt angle, mcmahon, taker x 2..
Very poetic of HHH slamming his best friend HBK through a window like Michael's did so many years ago to Janetty
Whoa whoa whoa. Michaels did not throw Janetty through the window of the Barbershop. Janetty was so scared of Shawn that he tried to jump through the window to escape. Shawn was trying to stop him. Bobby Heenan said so.
@@jdolaktv wrong he was super kicked an as he spun around he went through the window.. I'm 99%sure
Uzi Blanco r/woooosh
@@jdolaktv I forgot that heenan commentary
@Christopher Tracy wow mr defense i didn't know your uncle Marty was so important to you lol
That match was one man's love letter and thank you for everything to his brother and best friend that's the only and best way I can describe it absolute magic💯🎯
The Hebner's were selling a unlicensed WWE merchandise out of a shop in Lemay, a township out of St. Louis, MO. I was friends with the shop owner. I live in Lemay.
It's not "rumor & innuendo" that HBK showed up to an event pilled out of of his mind in 98, when he himself, as well as HHH, have publicly confirmed that it happened.lol
Legends of wrestling never retire until they die. We all know that.
They didn't know what they had. They arguably had the GOAT.
I can't imagine Shawn's 2 year old son really gave a shit about seeing him wrestle.
Too busy shittin' himself
Big Bret fan (was on his side during that feud) but no matter how much I hate shawns out of ring antics, I always am aware that he is one of the greatest of all time. His return easily proves it.
My favorite Summerslam match. My favorite Summerslam. Great from top to bottom.
Rock and Austin leave and Triple H has massive backstage stroke. All of a sudden Michaels back mysteriously heals. Call Jesse Ventura, because it’s a conspiracy!
Michaels back had actually healed the year before but he was a drugged up mess. 4 years of a back injury sounds better than 3 years of a back injury and a year of needing to find his Jesus when you’re talking about it on TV
Travis McDonald Shawn and Triple H had a major falling out in 2001, so no conspiracy
Buttercup III he did the surgery in Jan 99 so by the end of that year or 2000 he could’ve been back but had to deal with drug and stuff
This is easily the greatest match in WWE since 1997 Bret and Austin
Wonder if Vince ever tried to push Bruce into his pool
Have they done the DX show yet?!
best rivalry ever
Interesting how at the end Bruce says "I do think we've seen Shawn's last match" before listing all the guys he thinks will be back. HBK is just about the only guy in the wrestling business who actually retired when he lost a retirement match. And it was one of the best matches in Mania history.
What was that about HBK staying retired?
@@cameronpeter9193 LMAO
Aaaaaaaaaaand he's back from retirement
Saudi money
Spoke a little too soon there, eh?
In watching wrestling for 28 years, I've learned at least one thing: There is no such thing as "retired".
Interesting that at the time, the WWE thought that this would be HBK's last match, yet they let him win. Usually, as has been mentioned by Bruce before, among others, if it's your last match, you normally take the loss.
This was a special attraction comeback match. They did the right thing by letting him go over, but keeping HHH strong in the process.
Right. HBK already lost at WM14 when he retired. No way should he lose again in his comeback match even if it only was supposed to be the one match.
It's usually not the comeback match of the greatest in ring performer of all time either
@Andy Parker
No I said the greatest in ring performer of all time not a dinosaur savage is no where near as accomplished as Shawn not even close I don't recall the other wrestlers giving savage the moniker of Mr.wrestlemania
@Andy Parker
O and savage himself seen Shawn as something special as he wanted to come back and work with Shawn a few times leading up to Shawn retiring savage but Vince thought Randy was to old
Possibly the best comeback match of all time? I say it's absolutely the best comeback match of all time. Who's done it better?
I was so worried that I'd be disappointed by this match. I didn't know how physically limited Shawn was. In fact, I was sure that it'd be somewhat of a letdown, that after 5 years of inactivity it was physically impossible for Shawn to perform at the level we were accustomed to seeing from him. I was lowering my expectations but still figured that Shawn performing at 50% was still better than 80% of the guys in the business.
One thing in particular, when Shawn and Hunter finally made physical contact by brawling at one of the tv appearances leading up to the ppv. Once they were separated, Shawn vaulted over the top rope to hit Hunter on the outside..... and he almost didn't clear the top rope. That worried me. I obviously had nothing to worry about. An absolute classic.
Rumor and inneuendo...
If jordan was the best in the world in 93 and retired for 2 years and came back and still was the best for another few years...the shawn Michaels is the equivalent to him took 4 years off came back and still had some of the best feuds/matches
Also he did it while only winning the world title once and held it for a few weeks within his first year back.
he made me believe he would win the world title more times then he actually did
The Brian Kendrick should have won that championship scramble
We know how much yoi love the man...its time for a HHH 3/4 hour ahpw of his fued with The Rock and those matches(which rock still calls his greatest EVER) FROM 00-01' needs to be done , conrad... We know your his biggest fan..but we need that..his impact on the business is up there with hogan and others..
Maybe on Vince's part firing the Hebner Bros was a flaw but it's not a flaw to just move on after it happens. It's business. Maybe on a personal level he should have felt bad but a business level no.
Well Hebner vs Triple H was the greatest long term feud.
Right? Lmao
No... it wasn't.
Anyway chat me up Bruce what's the rumors and inuendo
What the hell is inyouindough? “They say the rumor in inyouindough”
Innuendo
Holy shit cleetus
Lmao oh my god
Shawn was absolutely gorgeous
Relax flamer
Excellent package and match but one thing always stuck out to me. It was weird to have Triple H pedigree Shawn Michaels, then have Shawn get jumped backstage, then have Triple H be concerned, then have it revealed to have been Triple H who jumped Shawn. Like I said, it was great overall. But that part struck me as odd. It was like they had two reveals in mind but couldn’t decide which to do, so they just did them both.
I thought it was to show initially that triple H, who was a face before this turn, was angry at Shawn for not wanting to be his manager, and that's why he pedigreed Shawn. It's a turn of course, but it was just a finisher in the ring, not that big of a deal. He went out on that Raw and started knocking Shawn and berating him, and then when they say Shawn was really hurt and someone threw him into a car window, showing Triple H being concerned was a way to swerve the fans like, shit, I am pissed at him but I didn't want him to get messed up like that. The reveal that it was Triple H was to show, you bet it was me, I hate you, I am evil, and how dare you come back and not bow down to me, as I am the man now, and just shows what a monster Triple H actually is.
If his last match is that tag with hhh with kane and undertaker I'll be disappointed
Dublin Brummie Don’t worry. HHH & HBK are supposed to have long hair, not bald...that goes double for Shawn. At least HHH had a reason to cut his hair
HBK did a great job as always, those other 3 guys looked slow and botched things up.
I thought HBK was the best thing in that awful tag match
Funny how Shawn’s 2nd retirement ended ... foreign money
You do know that a one-off isn't the ending of a retirement, right?
@@jdolaktv That's like saying "I quit smoking and that cigarette I smoked was a 'one-off'."
@@1sportsfan Bad analogy. Shawn hasn't wrestled since. Thanks for playing.
Imagine if interviewers only asked stupid fucking questions like this guy. Imagine somebody asking Christian Bale hey remember that whole scene with you in the Joker and then spends 15 minutes describing the scene and then simply ask what did you think of that…What did you think of that angle? Again, he saw Chris Farley and his fake talk show on SNL and decided that’s how to interview people.
I aint gna lie...during this time..amongst all of us watching it and buying the ppvs to see all this..its apparently obvious that it was intended to bury.
Its also apparently obvious now that prichard is just being a stooge hoping for that next payday.
While it was class of hhh to even work with scott in spite of shitty wcw treatment..he tried.
The fact of the matter is this..u picked on scott during his worst wrestling days or some of..and it was still better than it should be...and i aint no scott fan not even then..wcw watchers i watched both btw..hated scott and didnt find baby jacked scott buyable at all.
Well i think hhh wouldve been game for wwe any more money..the execs...dropped the ball on more money.
Its obvious that there was wcw hate somewhere...heck maybe vince wouldve been onboard.
But scott shouldve played heel and did alot of underground wrestling upto.
And it wouldve put more money into wwe like it did in his wcw champ days.
Steroid scott isnt a babyface character unless its 100%ladies in attendance.
Like even if bruce is 100 honest..it still showed how execs in wwe are just screwups.
Sad but true.
This makes me think that Shawn was never hurt with a career ending back pain. That his drug use was the main reason why he stayed out for so long and he only came back when he did because his contract was running out.
Well, he was injured and has the scar to prove it where he had back surgery. Career ending? Well, in the end it obviously wasn't because he did return and ended up wrestling for 8 more years. Between the injury and his drug use, I am sure he did think he was never going to wrestle again and had the mindset of not wrestling again, as Bruce talks about in this video clip. Eventually he did start to work out again, and of course once he did start wrestling again, he realized he could do it again. Same can be said with Edge. He was out with a career ending neck injury and was out for almost 9 years, but came back and ended up doing it again. Same with Daniel Bryan who was never supposed to wrestle again. I think the doctors tell them they shouldn't wrestle again, and for most normal people those injurys would be pretty severe, but these guys are of course a different breed.
15 grand a week all through that bad back 4 year period to stop shawn ever going over to wcw as soon as they went out of business and the cheques stop then he got one more in him
Everytime this guy says "Rumours and innuendo" I cringe
Triple HHH isn't worthy of any praise.
You're wrong
How gay was Mr. Hickenbottom back then...
Jay Le Blanc Mr. Lickin’mensBottoms
d. bankhead HBGay
That’s the gimmick tho
That was something Shawn insisted on Bret Hart to start saying so he gave him ammo of one of them ass grabbing the other at the titantron
Bret is that you?
Couldn't stand either one of these guys. KBK's big push really started to turn me off of wrestling.
Am I the only one who thinks Shawn is the most overrated and overhyped worker, ever?
Even as a kid his work and selling was so ridiculous that it made it clearly obvious that it was fake af.
Couldn't ever get it. Never understood why Shawn was a main eventer, but I'm not in to guys either. I think the gimmick and women who didn't know shit about wrestling bought merch, which translated to a push.
Yea, you're one of the only ones. My grandpa told me Shawn Michaels was the best there ever was before he passed and that man been watching wrestling since the 50s. 1. HBK 2. Nature Boy. Wish i could ask him his top 5
Definitely just you
Only poor Lil you
