    Gabby, we are always in alignment. Everything you said in this video resonates with me. I remember quitting my job and thinking I would have all the time in the world to focus on CZcams and grow my channel. I took a detour in the process and rekindled my relationship with God instead. I am so glad that I am choosing to focus on my spirituality, my family & friends, and my mental health. The internet doesn’t matter as much as it used to for me. Thanks for this video 💗✨

      Yes girlie. You know we have a soul connection! That’s so interesting, the stage of life we are in. But I think we are realizing that there are other more important priorities at the moment. And I feel I can’t fully show up in a real way online if other areas need to be tended to. The internet will always be here for us 💗

    Gabby, thank you for your contributions to social work thus far. You have been such a huge part of my social work journey that started just a few years ago. I'm so glad that you posted this video because you have voiced what I have been thinking for so long regarding my relationship with social media, how I use CZcams differently, and the cancel culture in social work. I appreciate you enjoying your time away so that you can be more intentional when you return. Congratulations on your marriage and all of the changes to come!!

    Great video and congratulations on your marriage! I have been feeling the same way. I am a Mental Health and Addiction Recovery therapist (working towards my LCSW) and I can tell you that OCD, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and depression are at an all-time high and the thing I hear over and over is the pressure that social media puts on people. I have even had to treat people that had severe anxiety over "getting canceled" because of something they might say, or if they approach the wrong person to ask them on a date. I used to pride myself on staying up to date on the news and for the last few months I refuse to turn on any news program or political shows / podcasts. It is all too much. I think it's time we all turn off our phones and televisions and start going outside, playing in parks again, or getting together (in person) to play board games or card games again! I feel that we need to place more focus on what is going on in our local communities instead of worrying and being barraged by news about horrible things going on in other countries.

      Thank you so much! And wow I’m sorry to hear that people are suffering this way, but I believe it. We really need to reflect as a society about what social media culture is doing to us, and our children. And I think we have all have felt the fear of being cancelled or shamed by family and friends at one point or another, because any slightly opposing view can be completely ostracized in this day and age. In an effort that started as a way to create more inclusion and understanding back fired and often has the opposite effect.

First, congratulations to you 🎊🙏🏽💙👏🏽 I definitely feel you on the social media front...other than here( I enjoy watching vlogs and Ted Talks) I've checked out, really not a reliable source for me or importantance. You were one of my beacons for pursuing my MSW(recently licensed as well) your genuiness and content was so helpful and thought provoking. I've always left your videos having much reflection. Thank you for that💙💙🙏🏽
    Your hair and Pachira are flourishing, and I love that you are collaborating with a University to help students, what a beautiful way to pay it forward...anyways nice to see you and we'll wishes💙💙🙏🏽

    I’ve seen wildly toxic tiktoks where people accuse all social workers of things like being agents of the state, comparing them to police, calling them oppressors, etc. It’s so out of touch, but without real world conversations people just take one internet opinion/experience and run with it and are now trying to cancel social workers. My concern is that so many young people are involved in internet culture as their primary form of getting information, they truly can’t critically think through trends like this and ask if it makes sense, or have real conversations with social workers and what they do. It’s exhausting

      Yes I feel that way also. The pressure has just become a bit much. I don't think I'll stop on youtube, because i still think this is one of the most authentic platforms right now. But I think we all are feeling a bit of social media fatigue generally.

  • @RichSocialWorker
    @RichSocialWorker Před 2 lety +3

    GABBY! You are saying some of the EXACT things I've been thinking about except I've built my online brand on the premise that other social workers can do that too.
    And while I still believe that social workers are the best to transition into coaching, I'm also not loving the promotion of hustle culture to live the life you want. Aside from fundamentally rejecting the concept of hustling (I'd much prefer to connect and manifest), I don't believe that lifestyle promotes good mental health.
    Another great video in the bag, Gabby! Thanks for sharing your process with us! You continue to inspire me to be better! ...AND CONGRATS AGAIN ON THE NEW RELATIONSHIP STATUS! 😍😘

      Thanks for your comment Eva! I am so glad to hear from you and happy you are well. And my point about influencing is no shade to any particular people. Like I said, I am a part of this 'influencer culture' also which is why i'm so burnt out by it now. I truly think being an influencer is many people's means of escaping toxic jobs, or scary economic climates so I get it and don't put the blame on individual people. It's just a strange time right now online. And yea, hustle culture can work! It's just super unsustainable.

    I enjoy watching your videos about social work and just all the different jobs and such! I’m currently in school working on my BA and I really want to start somewhere to get experience before I finish school, do you know any jobs that are a good start for someone who is going into social work one day just to gain some type of experience? Currently I am a Activity Leader at an Elementary school (5years) and I also dabbled a little in RBT but that’s about it but I want to really find a job that will give me that experience! I hope to hear from you!

      Maybe you could do field work for a company? If not, any traditional social work field work will prepare you. I think it’s good for corporate social workers to have non profit experience, as you will need to partner with and understand them if you ultimately end up in corporate
