I have been working with children and families involved with child welfare, specifically foster care and adoption since 1995. I have been a child care worker, a supervisor, and director in a residential "group home" setting. Working with youth in care in general is extremely challenging. Working with youth in a group living setting requires a completely different skill set. While I appreciate the content and the information you shared, never did I ever consider myself or any of my colleagues to be a "babysitter."
I really like what you're doing with your channel! Very interesting! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the video! Much needed and encouraging
I’m happy it was helpful for you! You’re welcome.
This has been an excellent vid. You have provided so many valuable informations! Thank You
Thank you!
Hey! I love your videos! I have my bachelor of social work and I’m currently doing my master of social work with a specialization in international and community development. As a fellow macro level social worker, can you do a video giving advice on how to sell yourself in an interview as a social worker for a macro level community development job in an NGO? Keep up the great work with your videos! :)
Gabby you the LCSW of life 👍
I like your new hair style and I also like how you speck ; very clear to understanding.
Thank you so much to both! And thanks for watching.
@@MindyourSociety you’re welcome
Thanks so much for another great video☺️I really want to apply to a MSW program. I have been worried about applying since I only have volunteer experience and not actual work experience. Your video makes me feel more confident about applying & hopefully getting into grad school!
You are welcome! Yes I’ve chatted with many folks in your boat. I hope this can help you to feel more confident.
Best wishes and you will only know if you try 💙🙏🏽
Lucked out right out of my program. Had the job before I even graduated because of an amazing network/reference. Psychotherapy working towards my LCSW!!!!!
Now that’s something to be proud of.Congratulations! Networking is so helpful!
@@MindyourSociety it really does! Just wish most people (especially under grads) did it more often.
Can you provide some tips, Lennox? Thanks.
@@Mark-tl1yp 2 best things to do:
1- don't be afraid to try when those around you are reserved. If you know an answer, say it. If you know how to do something others don't, offer your help. Participate in everything even if you don't feel like it. Let people know you are willing to take on more responsibility (without hyperextension)
2- network with everyone. Get to know what everyone's job is. Ask to spend a day shadowing, especially in things you have genuine interest. This will allow you to get to know more people, aspects of the field, and get your name out there. So when opportunities present themselves, you have already set yourself apart from everyone else (def not saying you are better than anyone).
I enjoy the content but can you recommend a micro-level social work youtube channel?
It is the area I wish to pursue and while I do find your insights to be valuable, I would like to hear from someone focusing on pychotherapuetic social work.
I had experience working as behavior specialist, support worker and I’m currently a youth program coordinator. I’ve done all of this before receiving my BSW which I’m currently working on now. Would I still have to work these roles once I get my BSW or would already having this experience help push me forward to something more advanced?
I’m in my last year of my MSW program/internship and it’s a good agency. It’s very clinical mental health agency but I’ve learned that I’m more interested in maybe case management or something else. My concern is if I’m gaining experience in therapy and if I want to become a case manager I will have to learn that aspect of SW I feel like I maybe wasting my time doing therapy….
My internship focused more on case management, but I want to do therapy instead. I couldn’t get hired due to lack of experience in both.
Hi, great content, Any Age limit in going back to university to run a master program in social work in UK?
Thanks for watching, you all! Have any of you gotten any entry level social work experience yet? If so, please share about it below to help others!
In my first field placement, well actually my 2nd because when I completed my Associate, I had experience working in the field that involved the generalist practice before I was even sure what it was, but with my BSW I encountered both generalist and some specialized practice with my chosen population. In both its about incorporating the social work values, especially working with people in general. I will be starting AS program this coming fall and I believe and holding on to my faith that I will make it. Best wishes to all on the sw journey or if you're contemplating. Gabby, I'm loving your hair and that color on you!
@@SweetGaBrownin thanks for sharing your experience! And that’s a great point; learning how to work with the social work values and code of ethics in mind is important in those entry level roles. Aww and I appreciate the nice compliment! I’m a Taurus so green is my color. Haha.
how to prepare for mental heal social worker early before graduation?
Graduated with a masters and earned my LMSW. Only jobs I can find are all entry level jobs. The jobs I want required 1-2 years of clinical experience. But I have no idea how to get that. I went ahead and got a CDL and started driving trucks. I’m still a little open to the social work field, but I think I may have to just let it go. Quite a few of my cohorts are experiencing the same hardships when it comes to finding employment.
I’m currently in this boat. I’m struggling finding my first field placement 😫
Ahh yikes. Wishing you the best on this!
Is it really possible to immigrate to Australia to work as a social worker without work experience, but I have a general educational diploma in psychology, will I be accepted or rejected?
I'm In my first semester of the BSW any Insight or Information you can Inform me off ?
The main reason I want experience is because we get all this info and I don't know how the heck to use them 🤦🏿♀️🤦🏿♀️ and it's frustrating ....
In every job their are skills a social worker would use 👏🏾
I currently have 15 years in case management services. I work with the mentally ill. I’m very curious to see what information you may have to share
I am also a qualified social worker
Hi, I just moved to the US on a K1 visa. I have a Bachelor SW degree and I feel so confused about what to do since the system here is very different. Is it any website (beside your very helpful channel) with information about bachelors and master degrees for SW? Thanks :)
Not sure of the question? Do you want to know how to transfer and use your degree in the US ? You’d want to talk to the department of licensing in the state that you live in. Their website would help you to know what steps you need to take to get your SW permits. I also watch other social workers on CZcams, such as Rich Social Worker and Unorthodox Group. You can look to join the National Association of Social Workers here in the US as well.
@@MindyourSociety Yes, that was exactly my question. Thank you so much! I'm looking forward to learn more about the field over here and your channel and recommendations will help with that :)
How do I get in to the UC Berkeley Social Welfare program 😕
Hmm. That’s a very broad question. I’d say to make sure you are clear on their admissions standards and work with a Berkeley admissions counselor if you have questions.
Hello mam I am from India
How to you develop a good resume after graduation
I include information about that in my online course (Link in description) but it’s hard to chat about it via video or comments.
Can a social work student do a masters in public health ?💫
I think you want to know if you can get a bachelors in social work and later a masters in public health? Doing that should not be an issue for most public health programs.
