I was speaking regarding actual online programs, that will continue to be via online even after vaccines are developed. Just wanted to add that context!

      Hello and thank you! I appreciate that. For most programs, you don’t need a social work degree or direct experience with social work to get into programs. I dont enjoy reading books anymore.... I want to help people, because they just talk and most times the problems fix themselves. I was stressed and the social worker I had, just listened to my problems, then they gave me a tens unit to shock myself. That made no sense. Then they tried to put me in group activities talking out my feelings, and the other VA people were straight up crazy!! Just listening to their problems made me seem sane!

      @MindyourSociety  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi! And thank you so much for watching. You don’t need any one particular bachelors degree to get a Masters of SW. so no worries about that. And most social workers only have bachelors and masters. I only have a masters. So yes you can get a job with only a Masters.

    I'm doing my Bsw now... and I have a doubt that is social case work similar to pychologist's work?
    And I would like to add that in India, people don't know what is social work actually... they simply think social services and social work is same... and in India, there is no license required to practice social work... here the most common fields of social work is Human Resource management, community development, medical nd psychiatric social work.
    And one negatives of social work in India is that social workers get paid very low...

    • @MindyourSociety
      @MindyourSociety  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you for sharing! I never knew that about India. And social workers do have an option to go the therapy route which does have similarities to the work of a psychologist. But there is also a mezzo and macro option too which I do and isn’t as similar to psychology

  • @povertyisapolicyfailure6130

    Your point on license for bsw. I thought this counted for specific states. In New York State you have to have a masters to be and LMSW. Some please further explain if I am wrong. But I don’t think this is true for every state.

    • @keishaNicole12
      @keishaNicole12 Před 3 lety

      Yes, for most states, you have to have a Master's Degree. You can become a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with your BSW.

    • @MindyourSociety
      @MindyourSociety  Před 3 lety

      You need a Masters to become a LMSW, but not to become licensed in general. You can be licensed with just a BA and different state’s call it just a RSW or LBSW (varying titles depending on location)...it just wouldn’t have the M In it ( for Masters) but a B. The different titles state to state are so confusing!

      Mind your Society thanks for clarifying. I’m not sure if you have spoken about this yet, but, can you speak on taking social work interns, if you have had the opportunity to do so. What is your experience interning social work students vs. when you had to do your social work internship?

  • @333pinkelephant333

    WhAT. This is the first time hearing you have to PAY to get LCSW hours supervised 😱
    I know it's really my fault for not doing thorough research but what the hell how come literally no one is up front about this?!!
    I always thought "supervised hours" meant you just find a lcsw to hire you to work for them.
    So if they typically charge up to $100 for an hour, does that mean you're eventually paying $300,000 since you have to have 3000 hours to get the lcsw????

    • @tammygriffin5658
      @tammygriffin5658 Před 3 lety

      First time hearing too...wow. wonder if it is by state.

    • @MindyourSociety
      @MindyourSociety  Před 3 lety +2

      Hello! I just looked back on an email thread with a social worker who provides supervision and she quoted me $75 an hour! That’s still outlandish if I need 3000 hours. I’m sure she misspoke?? Honestly I never followed up, so please do more research on this based on your state. Also, most social workers get licensed by working under a supervisor who is licensed and in that case, they don’t have to pay. But myself, I don’t work under a licensed supervisor so I’d have to get an outside supervisor, which cost. I want to stay at my current job, so that is my option.
