    This was very useful thank you
    I think I want to Invest in TRIO and my local community college. There are many services and programs here that are not connected or supporting one another. I think a long-term goal for me if I pursue this field is making sure the youth feel cared for, invested in, and equipped to face problems. Capable people here want out of my city because it's never given them a reason to care about this place. I want to make sure they do, I want to give them a reason to be proud of where they come from and not play into how many gunshots and sirens we hear at night. Brag about the scholars we have and not our crime rates.
    Thank you this was very insightful

    I found my niche recently I worked for individuals with special needs for ten years and remained in the field until I got my MSW. I, then, wanted to broaden my knowledge in the field and be came a AOD/SUD therapist... NOT ME NICHE BY ANY MEANS!
    I now work in a school/activities center for youth and adolescents with autism. I do case management, counseling, diagnoses, and assume a liaison role. This is my niche. 😊😊😊

    Thank you for including the financial part of our personal needs! I feel like that’s overlooked by other professionals in the field. It was refreshing to hear!

    I love this video! I just want to add that sometimes as a new Social Worker just starting out, you’re going to have to get in where you fit in, Most of the time I’ve noticed that’s working with families and children (intensive in-home) or outpatient community mental health because those are the jobs that are going to be available right out of your program and provisionally licensed. Don’t feel committed to an agency. There’s nothing wrong with getting your experience and moving on.

    Thank you this is really helpful! I'm considering going back to uni for social work or psychology (I have a BA in sociology). I'm more interested in research and the macro level, which I haven't heard much about outside of your videos. I was previously turned off by both those degrees because I think I'd get burnt out super quickly doing 100% client-facing casework or therapy, I thought that was pretty much all you could do.

    Another good one, I was talking about this topic with my wife. One of the schools I was looking into have grants for those that would be willing to work in child, youth, and family or CYFD after graduation. Have to work for them 2 years but it will almost pay for the total cost of the program. Would anyone else do this or not and why?

    I was not accepted into the SWK Program this year since my gpa was not high enough as the requirements. “2.7” and I’m in 2.5 this Spring… I don’t know what to do , the advisor don’t replied to me.. and I feel lost

    • @cassieb5181
      @cassieb5181 Před 3 lety +1

      Maybe do a different course for a year or two to try raise your GPA?
      Social work will always be needed so you can start at much later ages, (or just a year later than you expected). I'm starting out at 30.
      Plus you might have the added benefit of more life experience by the time you finish.
