      Shehzor Noufal you must be very naive then, since man started inventing things there have always been some that would use the product for something harmful. The wheel was invented and it was used for transporting goods. It wasn't long before chariots appeared. We learnt how to split the atom and before we got nuclear power we had the atom bomb. It appears to be the human condition. If we ever invented the transporter system seen in Star Trek it wouldn't be long before somebody started offering an escort transporter service.

    • @Cerbyo
      @Cerbyo Před 6 lety

      Well the logic is that if they specify the kind of arms, then they subtract from the law. They could dictate that muskets with rubber bullets or something more unwieldy are the only arms that citizens are allowed to bear or something like that. Such a specification would on paper be no different than specifying ONLY HANDGUNS or ONLY BAZOOKAS, or whatever. They already do it to some extent though which is hilariously hypocritical, you can't carry RPG's and machine guns around town.

    There actually two different aspects to the whole "plastic gun" thing: One are lower receivers for AR-style rifles - because the lower receiver is the only serialized part. You can, and need to (!), freely buy the rest of your rifle, and these parts are still made of metal. The easy solution for lawmakers would be to serialize a part of the gun that cannot be easily 3D printed, like the barrel. People could then print their lower receivers all they wanted, as it really doesn’t matter what material it’s made of, be it polymer or metal.
    That all-polymer contraption that always appears in images, the Liberator, is a different matter. Ammunition is still almost always made of metal, though …

    The guns actually only fire once or twice before never being able to fire again. The real problem is making 3D receivers. Especially if people can assemble the entire gun piece by piece. The receiver is the actual part that’s serialized. That’s the actual “gun” . People should not be allowed to print guns or receivers. Ohio state shooter made his own gun piece by piece.

    This is exactly what governments need to clamp down on home fabrication technology. I mean, 3D printing guns is a scary idea, especially since it'd be so much easier to disguise a gun in any kind of plastic shell, but for certain types of government that's a "lesser evil" than people being able to easily home manufacture all the possessions they need.

    • @ZarkowsWorld
      @ZarkowsWorld Před 6 lety +1

      AdeptPaladin >> nonsense, the plastic gun in question are mostly a 'legal fight'-creation, not intended for real use. But some parts of a gun is already made of plastic and why cannot we print that? In some jurisdictions we can - in others, the companies owning the trademark for the lower receiver etc will come after those that print (and sell) them. But it also opens up it for others to make their own design without needing a huge factory or ordering 100,000 injection molded kits from China.
