These "dumb" calls are also one of the reasons why helpdesk exists. đ
Yup... I remember helping a lady working remote a while back, and she called the start button "the little world thing" for a Windows 7 system... I knew I was in for an interesting time, and yes, she was in an executive position.

Bro you literally just reverbed the top comment
Dude, how about trying harder next time? Isn't it a bit shameful to simply copy the comment with the most likes?
God damn it this reminds me of a time.
I work in I.T., and a customer who runs a company came in with their CNC computer and was saying "It's not turning on"
I plugged it in, pushed the power button, and it turned on. I was a little confused, but it's not like i haven't seen it before. A problem that was there and is no longer there. I do updates, update bios, windows, etc. scan for corrupted windows files which i do find and repair successfully, i called him explaining everything and he was like "Huh... Weird. Well sorry for wasting your time!" Etc etc.
He takes it back, an hour or so later we get a call and he says that it isn't turning on again. I'm super confused so I asked a question just to make sure...
Me "...Do... Do you know it has a power button?"
"...no? What? Where? It's just always been on"
Me: đ€Żđđđźâđš "Ok so. For me to do everything on the computer, i had to push the power button. There's a power button on there, it's in the front of the pc. If you've mounted it on the wall it might be along the bottom"
Few seconds later.... "OH! I FOUND IT. IT TURNED ON!!! WE'RE BACK!!"
Turned out there was a bios setting I missed that got disabled after an update. (Edit: It turned on his PC every time it got power, so every night he'd turn off the shops power, next day turn it back on and the PC would be good to go...) Soooo told him to look for it in the BIOS and where to find it, he found it, customer was happy and he was back in buisness haha
My laptop turn on by itself so when I open it and press the on bottom it turn off⊠I was piss off
Laptops donât turn off when the power goes out. The story couldnât have happened as you described - unless it was a desktop / or a laptop with a REALLY bad battery.

I used to work for a school help desk. Teachers would call in and you could hear the kids in the background trying to tell them how to fix the problem.đ
Window + P
Many teachers are incapable of admitting they're wrong or need help from a student sadly
Yeah... I was designated tech support too đ I taught our brand new engineering teacher how to use the 3d printers and use the modeling software. Oh yeah and on the teacher laptops the sleep button is right next to the backspace so I told her to open up the power and sleep settings and disable the sleep button function and it worked đ
They called because they wonât let the kids go up and show them and keep saying âIâm doing that!â As theyâre trying it themselves(they are in fact not doing thatâ
Iâm the school tech person. Everyone knows that Iâve fixed a lot of the schools computers.

I work for apple and you wouldn't believe how many calls I get like this from middle aged people! One man was stumped for DAYS before I let him know he had to take the plastic cover off his charger to begin using it. Hello fellow nunya
Ahahahaahha he was shocked she figured it out so quick like it was rocket science đ
It might be an age thing and not the way you think. In the 90s and early 2000s the logos were oriented so that they were right side up when closed according to the user. The problem is that when they are opened the logo is upside down from other people watching you using your computer.
After a while, people wanted the logos to show right side up when they were being used, meaning the logos were switched around.
I started using laptops over 20 years ago. Even today I routinely place my laptop the "wrong way" (logo right side up) around on my desk and have to turn it.
Its funny my Dad was a computer engineer for one of the 2 major power companies in my state. The amount of times i had to walk him through using his smart phone or how facebook worked was preposterous considering he taught me and my brothers everything we know about computers. He passed away in 2020 at 67 due to cancer and I miss him everyday and would gladly show him step by step what he needs to do while he's cussing up a storm fruatrated anyday.
Reminds me of my dad.. I was the one he would call to set up his computer and help transfer pics from his phone to a SD card.. and just little things that had to do with electronics .. he passed away on 2021 and I miss him so muvh
This is understandable. Facebook and smartphones are something new. The more you get old, the more you don't get interested in new things. You just wanted to get stuff done or relax.
The one on the video baffles me tho. It's not a computer issue. You can see he's already used a laptop before. It's an issue on opening a laptop's lid, an issue with hinges; something that's existed hundreds of years now. Plus, it looks like a ThinkPad, so you can clearly see the hinges on the thing.
I just can't.
My mom was a website designer before going back to UNI to study art. Yesterday I had to help her setting up an Apple Account..
I just don't understand why? Maybe I'll get it when I'm 50+
What was your dad's name?
So sorry for your loss.
And he is admitting it and having fun on his silliness that is so cute.â€
Upside down logos so that the branding is seen correctly by other people.
As an IT guy I understand the confusion.
If he had placed it on the counter and had her walk up to it, he likely would have gotten the response he expected. From this angle she can see the hinges.
I mean the back is the only side with the hinges.
He seems like a higher up executive type, doubtful he's done any manual labor to see how hinges work
@@AizenShisukesomebody sounds jealous hahah
@@AizenShisukeits the vibe.. tell me you know nothing about tech without telling me..

This is a relatively understandable mistake. you know itâs early in the morning maybe youâre tired you forgetful youâre not good with computers already ultimately, I love these kinds of calls because not only do I still get paid for them but most of the people laugh with me about it for a bit
Guy could show you the hinges on a door, but ask him to show you hinges on a computer and he'll call up all 40 of his friends before he figures it out.
There was an older lady in my office who couldnât figure out why her mouse wasnât moving right, so she asked one of our younger employees to help, and he realized that the mouse was just upside down.
This was a THE memorable and funny event.đ My father came to me having difficulty to read small sized font in standard message app of an android. He was frustrated not finding any solution from going through the settings. I said "You can just do it like this" and zoomed in the screen and it made the font size bigger. I walked away to do other work. It took a moment for my father to understand what happened.đ My grand father was there, watching the whole conversation. He had a good laugh. My father laughed along with him.
đFrom then he always pins this event as the proof that aged people do need assistance from young people who walk with the world even after it's them who built that world. The world as in each and every form evolve and upgrades each moment. With social feeling of family. Even after you feel you don't care and don't need anyone in your life. Your parents/gardian were the one who assisted you when you were a child, now it's your turn to return the favour with respect and responsibility of assisting them in their old age.

So true. But God forbid you argue that it's not only because you're a millennial or something and they're not.
I had to go look at my Thinkpad, the Lenovo and Thinkpad logos are at the top of the screen, upside down when it's closed, and right side up so others know what laptop you're using. When you are tired in an early morning class or just tired/busy/not paying attention, the logo being upside down can really play with you. Nobody's called tech support for this to my knowledge, we quickly realise and just turn it around, but it's an honest mistakeâ that can happen regardless of age
I guess the joke is supposed to be "haha old man can't figure out technology". But in reality he just doesn't understand hinges.. which is way worse imo
Exactly!! It's not even an issue with electronics and it's a friggin' ThinkPad - you can clearly see the hinges on it!
Stop ruining the wholesome moment
I think the joke is more "why is the logo upside down from my perspective when I go to open it?"
Normally when you open something, the logo on the lid is orientated in such a way as to be "correct" to the person opening it. Laptops, however, buck this trend by putting the logo in such a way that it's "correct" to the people looking at it while open, but looks upside down (from your perspective) when you go to open the laptop.
Shouldn't be much of an issue with this guy's laptop, since the hinges are pretty visible. But lots of laptops these days work really hard to hide visible hinges, so i've seen more folks (even young folks) try the wrong end a few times....
