+Tyler Padgett Exactly what I was thinking. That was some 'small' thinking. It's not like he meant 'trade for trade' as in the exact amount. He meant, time to sell the house and downgrade to something smaller and have more cash for his new M2.
The on track commentary starting at about 11 minutes was great - driving wasn't too bad either. Best M2 video review out there right now by far. Good job.
Great review BIMMERPOST. Amongst the SUVs, FWD MPV, turbocharged and heavy weighted M cars that BMW have been producing, this M2 is very refreshing and we should all be grateful that it exists today. Even if they'll be more M2s than E82 1M Coupes, its definitely going to appreciate in value in the future. I wouldn't say it sounds much like the legendary E46 CSL (with its carbon airbox) as some of the sounds are synthesised (due to modern BMWs having really good sound-insulation), but it sounds VERY GOOD for a turbocharged straight 6 (RB26s are great too). And as some BMW owners managed to hack the system to disable the sound-generator thing in other BMWs, it shouldn't be the end of the world. I hope there will be an even lighter version of this car because its not that much lighter than the M4. Nevertheless, fantastic car. The M2 should be a candidate for 2016's car of the year

Great video. Anyone who ever drove an M car on the PCH would certainly appreciate the scenery! I did the drive from San Fran to Cambria in 2014 in E46 M3 and it was memorable. Never tried the Laguna Seca raceway in real life. Maybe one day.

I was always under the impression that the M3/M4 was already a handful to drive. Now the M2 is even more difficult to drive? Enthusiastic review of the latest M, I hope there's more to come this summer too.

All this car needs is some light R18 wheels with semislick tires, track pads/fluid, fixed back hard mounted racing bucket seats, manual gearbox option with pulled fuse to remove noob revmach feature.
And maybe some light tune to get ~400whp
..+ adjustable coilovers with camber plates

I think he said stays on in sport+. It can be turned off by turning off everything though at least tho
+march11stoneytony Huh, I know for a fact when you put the M4 w/ manual in Sport+ auto rev-matching turns off. I don't know why BMW wouldn't do that with the M2.

Great review, enjoying it on the big screen now. Couldn't agree more about voting with your dollars for the manual transmission. I instruct with the BMWCCA sometimes so I get to drive a lot of cars, but I just couldn't spend my own dollars on a DCT. Sadly BMW's abandoning the manual on many of its cars so instead of a 6MT F31 touring I bought a fantastic Golf R, but of course my M Coupe will always be its stablemate. Hopefully BMW gets the memo.

It is great to watch this video. I am glad the car lasted the various hot laps you put it through. I do find your comments relatively contradictory - playful and harder to drive due to its moving nature - but then you say it's easy to drive and control. This is one of those things that people have been saying about the 911 since its inception. With the introduction of the Cayman and evolution in general, the motor has been moving closer and closer to being mid engine on the 911. Let's chalk up "snappier" to just short wheel base and hard to overcome engineering vs "more rewarding". More rewarding is faster lap times vs overcoming hurdles! Either way, great review! My money still will go to a 6sp f80 m3 with cloth seats and 0 options.
I really luv thus M2 and how different it looks from the M lineup. I still want either an M3 or M5 one day.
Hey Sam I think I saw you testing the BMW M2 on PCH Hwy 1 between Bixby bridge and Monterey a few weeks ago. I was driving with another Subaru and a R32 Skyline from LA to SF and we spotted the M2s.

+Dakrazialbo I heard more problems to be expected with the v8 m3 plus more downsides to it than getting the turbo 6, despite it being naturally aspirated. Is this not the case? A car salesman told me this so it must be the truth. Something about a V8 becoming a negative down the line due to mechanical issues and or at the present based on performance?? BTW, "funner", I know its a you tube comment section but really? You probably talk that way irl too i'm guessing but I hate to assume...no judgement here I hate to judge just say'n ;)

+BIMMERPOST that rev match is mandatory for all modes and cant be turned off until u turn OFF all protections. Does that mean that once you have all protections OFF rev match automatically goes to OFF and has to stay that way or you can chose separately if rev match will be ON or OFF while the protections are OFF? Hope you understand my question:)

Funny you mention them trying to make it sound like the e46 M3csl because I thought I heard that raspy-ness when you were on the track although I think it sounds more like a muffled Cayman than anything else. Nice in-depth review and cinematography.
great review. Big question DTC or Manual? The DTC with that extra oil cooler might be more reliable....Finally a turbo charged M with an amazing sound.

Notice the twisted driver's seat? For cost-cutting reasons, the seat is not perpendicular to the steering wheel. It is set a few degrees pointed to the left. It is noticeable. This alone is a show-stopper for me.
