What happened with the weather, within 7 minutes it went from partly sunny to completely foggy.
+tsint I KNOW! That region is well known for fog and clouds rolling quickly but that was the first I had experienced it that fast. A bit behind the scenes here - we were working from day to night on this shoot - we had TWO cars to shoot that day and only one day to do it - so some of the bits - like this TECH REVIEW was shot towards the end of the day so we were fighting losing light along with the ominous looking weather rolling in. As such, we didn't have time to do a safety take for each of these shots you see here or wait for the weather to clear. In the upcoming X4 M40i FIRST DRIVE REVIEW, you will see a couple of shots from this same vantage point that has NO clouds just minutes before this . . .
The close to 375 torque coming in under 2000rpm is the most impressive thing about the engine. Looking forward to the full review

H Mack it is, but I still dislike diesels, although they offer that low-end torque. This thing is different, yeah!
I drive a 2000 E39 M5. I daily drive it, take it on road trips, and do some canyon driving with it. It's great!
I just finished driving my 2016 M2 on Six Gap Road in the North Georgia Mountains. Absolutely the best place on the planet to own one of these cars. Imagine switchback turns with over 10 degrees of banking turn after turn after turn and you get the picture. So did the 2016 Porsche Cayman S I blew by. Nothing he could do about it!!

In response to your question, current M models are a 2015 M3 and 1997 M3 coupe. Both are daily drivers in my household.
Motoman, my name is Leonel Rincon....I Have a 900rwhp Turbo E46 M3!...I love it. built S54 motor, single turbo kit and i participate in Rallies, 1/2mile airstrip events, the texas mile and track events throughout Texas and surrounding states. i have been fortunate to own this car and be apart of the community... i like the M2 as I Love the 1M
I love my M235i xDrive! I live in the midwest, though, and it is my every day driver. So for the winter months, I wanted an AWD. No full M models come with xDrive that I know of, so I went for the M235i xDrive. It is a TON of fun. I'm sure the M2 will be as well!
I can say that I have the best job ever. I drive all kind of cars every day and at least once a week I get behind a M car. Latest one was an e92, i can't explain the feeling...
BMW m3 e92 and formerly e46. I sold the e92 in preparation for the m2. :) I drove them both daily! I love everything about them except the maintenance. Glad my next one will have a warranty haha

My god the balance of this car is pure magic. It's been 4 years now and I'm still amazed by it.

I will pick up my M2/DCT in June in the BMW Welt. After different BMW's since 1984 it will be my first regular M and for me it's a daily driver. I live in the north of germany and unfortunately we have no race tracks nearby, but I'm able to use the power on the autobahn. Sorry for my bad english and thanks for the video!
2011 X5D Mods: Full renntech tune, EGR DPF SCR delete, 3 inch down pipe, (was mine, gave to wife) Used to track it, was a blast.
2011e92 m3 coupe 6-speed Mod: exhaust hack and michelin PSS. Track sometimes, mostly bird rd. stop light races now.

Started the M2 fund 2 months ago, working a bit of overtime, saving about 1200 month. should be getting M2 in 10-12 months.

people who cant afford m3/4 buy m2, and people who cant afford m2 buy used m3 two generations ago.
Roger Lee well yes, something wrong with that? And some simply prefer the 'analog' cars or like the E46 better.
Turbo in simple terms is: small turbo, for lower RPM's such as giving maximum torque as low as possible, big turbo for I'm sure you've guessed it!

I'd like to clarify a couple facts that you point out in this video. The S55 is actually derived from the engine in the M2, the N55, not the other way around. The M2 has a "beefed up" version of the N55 that was first introduced in the 2009 535i Grand Turismo. Most commonly found in the 2011+ 1 and 3 series. Also, the actual weight of this car is yet to be released. Until an owner puts it on a scale we won't really know but the consensus is, that with all these radiators etc., it's closer to 3500lbs.
2004, E46 M3, had it for 13 years, put 215,455 miles on it in every conceivable weather condition in 12 different countries
M6 2008. Florida. Love it.

2002 E46 M3 track car. We are in Florida. I also have a 2013 X5M that is my DD. I really like that new M2.

My only issue here in what you said, is that its not really a single turbo version of the S55. Its actually an N55 motor, the same engine used in the M235, 435, 335, X5 35i, I mean its a very common BMW motor that was basically worked up a little bit by M

So smart is this guy that he assumes I know wtf an S55 engine is, but not smart that he actually understands how it works! lol.
I have a bmw x5m，but it really doe sn' t feel like an suv when you turn at a corner quickly. It handles quickly，has high acceleration，and just it offers lots of settings that you can choose according to your personal like. I will say for every bmw M driver，they have their own special vehicle. I live in Vancouver Canada

i own a 2015 F80 M3 and i live in Kuwait (the middle east) sadly, we have no track here but i use it daily to work and construction sites.
It's understandable, for a car that starts at low 50K, they took the N55 with a few add-ons from S55. I actually thought they took the S55 and dumbed it down haha
The R56 Cooper S had a twin scroll turbo intake in 2006, it's not new, it's the plenum shape and volume that is different.

+MrLambo234 you should drive an SMG with a CSL tune, you might change your tune. In saying that, it's a lot of car for an 18 yo, be careful.

i wouldnt take it as a daily driver. when there is shitty weather take a cheap winter-car, when its sunny take the M3. that way, you will have so much more fun with it.

+Nik Brudar wow. a little harsh. and it isn't my first car. I have a 2004 325ci. I've driven the 330ci and an e36 m3 coupe, as well as a 335i coupe which makes 300hp. Obviously the e46 has more power but I am no stranger to fast cars. so saying that I'll crash is a little offensive and pessimistic let alone rude and disrespectful. Everyone thinks that teenagers don't know what they're doing or talking about. but the fact is we aren't all the same. I have more experience with powerful cars than anyone in my family. So I think I can handle AND learn to control an e46 m3.
What would be faster a regular 650i or a m3 m4???

I have a 2003.5 E46 M3 Coupe 6spd manual. I drive it as my daily, have some modifications done to it. I plan on tracking it once my mods are completed. I live in San Diego, CA.

2:47 the lack of pre turbo heat exchangers is a pretty massive difference in terms of total boost and power delivery. I've got an E39 M5 here, and would not consider a new BMW. Last newish bmw I owned was an E92 m3 and found it quite unsatisfying. Not a fan of the marketing experiments M has been playing with lately.
I like your reviews MotoMan but I always have to open another tab and look for the torque and weight figures because in Europe we use kg not pounds... Anyway I love the M2 reminds me of the E46 M3

95 m3 coupe. luxury package. i start the engine without clutching and drive to work and canyoning routes.
From the UK all allocation sold out basically this performs better than an M3/4 for 10 Grand less so went for an M235i which is what this M2 is roughly based on..
What M am I driving? M2 6-speed ASAP. Arrives in port tomorrow. 1st M after 24 year wait.
What do I do with it? Currently, I wait and plan trips to fun places to drive.

Great video didnt know it was lighter than the M4, I drive an M4 and majority of my time is spent in regular commuting, however I try to take the car out for a spirited back road drive when I can (maybe once a month on avg) then I also like to hit the track at least once a year
jealous af .....need to get my shit together to get an e92 m3 and new f10 m5 but I'm only 18
You still got time, just make a plan and don't be afraid to start with a lower model like an e46 and then make your way up
for sure those are far down the road...drove a dinan e39 m5 today and God it was awesome so I gt my sights set on that ..new cars are farther down the road when I can further pursue my business endeavours :3 thanks for the support man

Yes, in some episodes we don't cover the interiors as much as others as it is a function of balancing what is important for that specific car and total run time of the episode with an eye towards audience retention. So you may remember, in the Cadillac CT6 episode and most Mercedes Benz S Class episodes we spend A LOT of time on the interior as it is mission critical to the car. In fact, we did a stand alone episode on the stereo alone for the CT6 because it was so important to the car (czcams.com/video/lmlO6RDNBRM/video.html). With cars like this one, not as mission critical. That said, there were a couple of bits about the interior of this car on camera that hopefully will make it to the FIRST DRIVE REVIEW. Thanks for the feedback - always like to read this kind of input as it helps shape future episodes.

I suppose it's a trifle more fun, plausibly faster around the track and slower on a drag race.
Notice the twisted driver's seat? For cost-cutting reasons, the seat is not perpendicular to the steering wheel. It is set a few degrees pointed to the left. It is noticeable. This alone is a show-stopper for me.
