It’s time for the all-new BMW M2 to go head-to-head against the M240i!
Now before getting into the stats you’d be forgiven for assuming the M2 would walk this. After all, the M240i is effectively a BMW M2 ‘lite’, right? Well, this one may be closer than you think…
So let’s see how they compare. First up we have the M240i. It’s powered by a 3-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine that can produce 374hp and 500Nm of torque. This power is delivered to all four wheels, and it weighs in at 1,690kg. If you’re looking to pick one up, it’ll cost around £49,000.
Then we have the BMW M2. It comes with the same 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six as found in the latest M3, but the output has been dialled down slightly, so it’ll produce 460hp and 550Nm of torque. This power is delivered to the rear wheels only, and it tips the scales at 1,725kg. If you’re looking to buy one new, it’ll set you back around £65,000.
So the new M2 may have more power, but not only is it more expensive, it’s heavier and doesn’t come equipped with four wheel drive! Could that prove to be its downfall? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

Is it just me or does the M240i actually look way better than the M2?
This one is slightly modified. But normally I prefere the M2 by a lot.

Realistically the M240 is all anyone ever needs, with a tune it'd be just as quick as the M2 and it has the bonus of looking a whole lot better too.
its just as quick without a tune. top end, which no one needs, is where it gets you. 10k more for an uglier front end and tragic back
@@shoe3kfacts, literally the only people saying the m240 looks better are g42 and F87 owners. G42 is a nice car, I traded mine for a G87. In the year I had it, I literally got 1 compliment on it. Damn near every time I’m out in my M2, I get nothing but thumbs ups and compliments. The amount of attention the M2 gets compared to the m240 is night and day, not even close.

The 240i with a inexpensive minor tune is a banger and the interior looks better, also you can save so much money by not going for the M2, great value for money.

@@rubberduck3788in the Netherlands any software modification is instant denial of warranty and bmw told me that they can see the logs and the values are off. You could argue a not working window but any engine warranty is gone.

Lovely! The DCE Parts Downpipe with Milltek Catback Exhaust just sounds incredible!
One thing not mentioned this M240 has besides a catback exhaust and eventuri intake is it also has a catless down pipe which definitely helps with the performance even with the piggyback turned off. Would be nice if Matt was able to get a bone stock M240 to race against this bone stock M2

@@carcosaterp3393Dude, bare bone stock the m240i does a consistent 3.8 compared to the m2’s 4.1 and best case your m240i will be hitting 3.6.
Also, if you were to tune both cars the m240i would dominate it. The reason why the m2 catches up on the quarter is because the m240i is hard limited to 155 mph. Whereas, the m2 isn’t and does 175. Thus, it can pull harder closer to top end.
The m2 is trash and all m240i owners know that the m240i shits on it.

The M240/340 and even 550 are sooooo good. You could just get a CPO with low miles, and really be very content without a full M. Considering how much better it is to daily, which is what most people do.
I got a f22 240i in 2018 with 3k miles for £26k. Absolute steal, however I would still take an f87 M2comp over it 😂
I got an F32 440i. Did a decat downpipe, has the MPPSK exhaust, did intake, got a stage 2 tune. Now it will walk away from stock M4s. And for 2/3 of the price of an F82.
Allows me to save up for an R8 or M5 for my next car while not really giving up much in terms of performance. And sounds nice.
Handling wise and interior wise it's no M4 though unfortunately.

Personally though I've got a G21 M340i and that too fast in standard trim as it is. Give more power and you'd just have to use it (and likely lose the driving licence).

For 600 bucks that tune is bloody worth it. Its not expensive. Even worth spending extra 400 or 500 doesn't matter power is insane
Bye, bye, warranty. I doubt there is a replacement guarantee from the manufacturer of that little tuning box. But you can have some if you go to some established BMW tuners like AC Schnitzer.
@@exoroxxyk most people don’t have warranty in there car? Im sure anyone who can buy this car for $50K+ will have no problem repairing these with actual cost. Sometimes stock is boring so we go a little bit big. To make it look cool.

Cars with the S55 engine in stock form beg to differ. I'm looking for a 6MT F80 M3 and I'll be keeping the valves closed until I slap on some equal length mid pipes at minimum because from the factory those cars sound like hot farting garbage. My bone stock E30 325i, on the other hand, definitely sounds glorious.

M240i with tuning box it is then. Having the 4 wheel drive for the UK weather and roads and £15k still in your back pocket makes it a no brainer. Looks better too. 😎

Buy a cars with worse depreciation, ruin the reliabilty and resale value to initially save 15k. And ultimately still end up with much worse car. Big brain moves.
Combined with the magic that is the B58, it's the choice. But I choose the M340i because I like my sedans more than my coupés.

Please can we do the same, but with the addition of an M2C from the last gen. Although it’s under powered on the new M2 I’d be interested to see what the weight difference makes… and the brakes on on my old m2c were phenomenal where as the ones on the new m2 look a bit small in comparison.
Matt, would it be an idea to also include 0-60 times in these drag races? Quarter mile time is interesting but a less well known and telling metric imo… car manufacturers also generally do not report on quarter mile so cannot compare it to their “claimed” figures. 0-60 is not a good measure- varies massively with the same car on just how it's launched. 30-70mph tells you much, much more.
@@oceandrive7283 same with quarter mile then right? Given that they usually do 3 launches it should give a pretty good real world figure to compare to the factory number. Especially with automatic cars.

I had a 2022 240 and lost it to a flood. Now am waiting for a manual m2. If only the 240 had a manual version, it would be the perfect car!!

The AUTOID M240i is also xDrive I think some people are missing that fact (and not stock). For the stock M2 to keep up with that off the line is impressive. Of course the M2 will win the rolling race because of the S58.

Was waiting for this upload, the guys from AutoIt really did a fantastic job on fitting the carbon accessories on the m240i, in my personal opion I prefer the m240i compared to the m2.... even if the m240i was stock.

I actually did a rolling race in my F22 M240i with an XM and it was quite impressive. I would pull away at the start, but as it picked up speed, it would come past me. Keep in mind this was a stock 240i so I’m pushing around 340hp…
The XM is for the rich man's wife.. and im sure rappers like it too

That M240i looks fantastic
B58 all day long, not only does it sound better, but its SO close in stock power, and a simple stage 1 will take it up to and in some cases above the S58 (on M340/M440i - M3/M4 models too). Plus the powerband of it is far superior compared to the S58 so you can have a much better daily. Not to mention the efficiency and reliability of it is incredible.

i think this video proves that if you are just a normal driving person that likes to go fast... get the M240. less harsh of the ride, $10-15k savings, and full potential to tune this faster than an M2.

Great comparison between two incredible machines! Both the M2 and M240i showcased their strengths on the straight line. Kudos to the drivers for pushing these cars to their limits. Really highlights the nuances between the models. Exciting race all the way to the finish line! Surprised how much the ECU tune helped the M240i. 🚗💨
