Here we go, Bimmer fans… It’s time for every BMW M2 to face off over the quarter-mile! We’ve got our hands on the original BMW M2, the BMW M2 Competition, the BMW M2 CS and the New BMW M2 to see which is the quarter-mile king! Not only that, we’ve got our hands on the car that inspired them all - the BMW 1M Coupe!
So let’s see how they stack up. Starting with the 1M Coupe, it’s powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six that can produce 340hp and 500Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox, and the car weighs in at 1,495kg.
Next up we have the original BMW M2. It’s powered by a 3-litre turbocharged straight-six, and it can put down 370hp and 500Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1,520kg.
Then we have the BMW M2 Competition. With a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six under the bonnet, it can put down 410hp and 550Nm, and power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It’s the heaviest car in the first race, weighing 1,575kg.
Then we have the cars for the second race. Starting with the BMW M2 CS, it’s housing a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six under the bonnet, and it can put down 450hp and 550Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox, and it comes in lighter than the M2 Comp, at 1,550kg.
Then finally we have the newest BMW M2. It’s got a (you guessed it…) 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six under the bonnet, and it’s the most powerful car here, putting down 460hp and 550Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox, and it’s a whole lot heavier than the other cars, weighing in at 1,725kg.
So will the new M2 beat them all? Or will the extra weight work against it? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!

Damn the way Sam launched that 1M coupe is insane for it being real wheel drive. Racing driver skills can get you real far with a RWD car. And his gear changes were lighting quick for a manual transmission~

New one is ugly by design. We're in the ugly angry era of cars now. BMW has great looks in its history but for the most part, that's where they're relegated to these days.

The launches on the 1M were superb. The problem with the 1M is that the small stock intercooler completely heat soaks half way through the second gear let alone a second race.

The F87 M2 is easily one of the best looking BMW's ever made, perfect blend between modern and classic styling.
The front end is so lost on it. Angles going every direction. And the rear end looks like it was rear ended. Their side profile is awful tbh
M2 F87 and M2 CS easily the bests.

Recently saw a 1M coupé in real life, what a bomb of a car it is! The concept of a shorter wheel-based BMW is just amazing, so much power on the rear wheels but less weight!
1M coupe had 590bhp.

Its a nice car but it hasnt got less weight than a 3 series. No M 1 or 2 does. Thats because a few inches of bodywork weighs very little compared to the driveline and chassis component which it share with the 3 series. In some specs, the E92 was a miniscule amount lighter than a 1m, because of its carbon roof.
The winner for 1M is its more lively behaviour, because of the shortened wheelbasr compared to a 3 series. More "fun" but a lot less stable. It also looks really cool, for me the 1M and M2 have always looked very nice. Not taken by the latest one so far though.
Interesting how the manual 1M got the better launch. Nice gear shifts as well 👍

Very fun race, very impressive with the gear changes from Sam.
Too bad it didn’t have all the same transmission. Would be interesting DCT CS vs ZF8 G82 and manual vs manual. CS has the better power to weight ratio of them all, no surprise on rolling race. But from still it’s all on tire/launch control and driver.
Braking test it’s all tires and suspension. Interesting how weight didn’t affect nearly as much as people think (more weight means more momentum but also more friction). The Competition looked a bit tuned (had air filters and some more stuff) and weird braking results, maybe worn tires?

Ive had a 1M since new. I can say with some authority on the matter, Sam did a great job getting it off the line like that. If you floor the right foot in 1st TC kicks in immediately and you go nowhere, take TC off and it just lights-up (see @8.45) the tyres and again you go nowhere. He's finding a good launch biting point with the left foot and a superb control of the fast pedal with the right foot. It also spins in 2nd so more right-foot control is needed. The gearbox is fairly short-throw and shifts can be slick if you get it right, but you'll still lose two or three tenth's a shift to a DCT. Good work Sam.
How many miles on yours?
19k. Most of those miles were done in the first 5yrs. Does less than 1k a year now.

M2 Comp is the real M. M2 doesnt have a S series engine.
i have the N55 F87 and its a miles better car, if u go FBO and maybe pure turbo it will be wayyy more reliable than any S55 car and most importantly it will sound and drive better.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the evolution of the M2 series? From the iconic 1M Coupe that started it all, to the newest beastly M2 pushing 460hp, this lineup proves BMW has been at the top of their game for years. Also, Sam's performance with the manual transmissions is a testament to the beauty of traditional driving skills in the modern tech era. Kudos to the whole Carwow team for putting together a race that serves as a tribute to the legacy and innovation of BMW! 🚗🔥👏

The 1 series is one of those timeless cars that look soo good. My 135i gets mistaken for a 1M but I have the N55 with a DCT. E50 really wakes up the single turbo 💯💪🏿
N55 really wakes up with pure500 turbo + some e85. I love mine, especially the sound.
@@Areku06 Planning to try the Sheunk N55+ turbo and see if the claims are true. It’s a newer turbo but the N55 FB group says that it offers stock spool with near Pure Stage 2 performance for less money
@@midnightz317 sounds similar to pure500, I got around 450whp/480 torque with custom tune which is about 500bhp. Turbo can do more but I’m limited by the fuel system, I’m only using b58 gen 1 hpfp.
