Elections and election rallies should only be held during this time of year when pollution levels are at their peak. At least this way the contestants won't be able to scream because of sore throats and itchy eyes. Maybe this will motivate them to improve air quality.
What exactly will politicians do? Tell me. Will they stop people driving car? Or penalise farmers? Next day you will see rallies. I drive a car because public transport is shitty, all i do is i buy the fuel with lesser carbon emissions thats what i do, great mr. Gupta travels in a AC car which emits what Oxygen? but do you think with our population we can change that over night? Gov want to make metros but getting land is a nightmare ( arrey forest example) only people can change this. Or yaha 10 ka 300 rs karne par riots lag jaate h (JNU)
😄😄😄
Crazy radical idea worth implementing..
It's really disheartening when all you hear is the commotion of remedying only 'Delhi' air when Haryana is equally or even more a victim of it . Literally nobody among the political class or major media is talking about pollution in haryana cities where we are dying as well. Panipat has it ,Karnal has it, Even Gurgaon which is so developed and a corporate centre but all you experience there is roads full of dust ,sand ( whatever that is). Nobody even talks that , nobody questions Haryana govt on that.
#NOTA
I agree. Whenever we pass from these cities, it starts to reek of industrial gases.
Kuch bhi keh lo ayegi to BJP hi. Aur jada dikkat hai to ghr par beth.
life is very cheap in our country. mark my words, nothing will happen.
@vig shah you're cheap too. Don't worry.
Have you done anything to improve!!???
Thank you for bringing clarity to the science of and possible solutions for Delhi's air problem through the IIT-K study. It is a pity that such an important study is not more widely known. I hope that you will continue this work by inviting scientific experts for public discussions on the topic, wherever you can.
"Those who can't do, teach" - very apt for the "remedies" suggested by IIT-Kanpur. According to Mr. Sharma and Mr. Dikshit, lets stop all economic activity and that'll stop pollution - stop the power plants, the restaurants, the construction work.. iss se problem solve ho jayegi. Shekharji, you're not that gullible to get carried away like this.
Why not suggest some actual practical solutions - if burning trash is the problem, use the burning to power the plants like Norway - that way you burn less coal and still have energy.
Have a cap on the number of cars a family can own. And yes, of course, plant more trees!
The solutions given are easy to implement. Don't be a pessimist. This study has taken all the best angles of all the problems and has given very practical solutions.
"Less worse" does not mean better. Good takeaway from this CTC.
The deeper and deeper we study about the issues, more we are disappointed.
This study forgot to add 43 lac litre aeroplane fuel everyday over Delhi NCR and it’s impact much worse than other things.
Besides pls add that entire region from Delhi NCR-Muradabad-kanpur-Lucknow-Varanasi-Patna has more or les similar pollution levels. Hence solution should all inclusive.
Prashant all considered in the study see department of environment website and download the full report
I agree. Because the entire of north, especially Punjab flies from Delhi to foreign countries.
There aren’t many international flights Amritsar or Chandigarh.
Dubai and Sharjah are the only destinations to fly from Chandigarh.
Same goes for Amritsar, only a handful of flights.
Also, flights are cheaper from Delhi. Most of my family members including myself travel from Chandigarh to Delhi by taxi for 5 hours and then take a plane. This has been happening for over 25 years and I’m 26.
Imagine all the pollution of taxis from the north part of India to Chandigarh just to catch a flight.
Do #cuttheclutter on reform in universities

this is the problem with us... we pay attention to utter nonsense but not the real issue... god help us

Sir, Tremendous explanation. As an engineer, I found few nomenclatures were misrepresented. PM 10 is not particles with 10 microgram , they are particles with 10micromter in diameter. Likewise for PM2.5

Great summary of the study. It was good to see Prof. OD's name after such eons. Thanks!
thank you for the informational video sir.. please summarise the key points for explaining to others too
absolutely wonderful sir thanks
Hope small cities and villages get some job so I can move there
Perfect analysis
Start with the simplest solution. Getting 9k restaurants in Delhi to stop coal based tandoors will generate same response as the response to demolition drive started by the Supreme Court about 15 years back. Restaurant owners will ask for subsidies to buy electric tandoors.
This time Last year I was in Delhi the smog was so high that when I was about to sleep I thought I will not wake up tomorrow

@@nirmalpauly Govt. has turned a blind eye to the issue.. They think that people will eventually get used to this kind of living and stop complaining once they die.
Very good episode Mr. Gupta!👍👌
Sir, the 10 in PM10 is measured in micrometers and not micrograms.
Sir, love you lectures!
Excellent subject taken up !
Most underrated cut the clutter.
you can make as many videos as you please, hard fact of the matter is that this is culturally too wide a bridge to cross for Indians, things will remain bad as far as pollution is concerned for the next 100 years.

@@vinay5931 bs 4 nd bs6 standard vehicle r some intermediate /long term step, which is necessary ,have been started since last yr. N the no of buses r continuously reducing for last 4-5 years which is indirectly inducing the vehicular pollution. Ppl should not use cars just for luxury . Govt need to drastically improve public transport quality n capacity to combat this situation.

Only hope left of all solution like not simply pollution, corruption is Indian women.
It s my exprience that we need women in politics and every sphere so that in real sense they can give output.

Quality journalism. Thank you.
Suprised to see you here Mr Escobar
Just a small correction, PM 10 refers to particulate matter with effective diameter less than 10 micrometer and not micrograms.
We Indians care more about money or materialistic things than our health. No wonder we have such quality of life.
This is excellent 👏👏
Thanks for that useful information.
Lots of essential minerals are floating in Delhi and they get absorbed directly into our blood.
It looks its nutritious place!!
I thought cows are released on purpose on streets of India to soak up contaminants and purify the air!
Bad air quality is inherent problem in many cities. Aasthma, Cancer and other problems are now commonplace. Why our govt cannot bring rules or legistlation to correct this, is this not job of govt?
Exactly. Legislation solves everything.

Looks like IIT study group did not have any perosn with Industrial experience. Many Industry use dust collection systems and other pollution control equipment which is required to followw pollution control laws for industry. Construction industry should be required to use waterspray during demo or simply use dry or wet dust collectors of the size suitable to work.
Sir is there any way to make sure the government responsible should be aware of this study and your analysis??
Bang on. Air quality is on people's agenda now. Infact i think it will turn into a major poll plank in the upcoming delhi elections. At least i hope it does.
They should start looking at replacing coal plants with gas or even better with nuclear. The problem of dust is probably easiest to deal with, you just need to start planting more trees and rejuvenating lakes and ponds. Another thing that can have an impact is to turn all dirt roads at least to brick roads in villages if not cement.
Can we please shift the capital from Delhi to some good place ? May be one which is equally accessible to all states ?
Please add a link to the study in the description or a pinned comment
At least you are focusing on the most important issue.
my upsc lecture
Take care Mr gupta
What are the solutions?
If it's fly ash there....
It's more dangerous than any smoke. Caused by my knowledge it sticks and forms tar like compound in lungs due to its very small particle size.
Good days ahead for lungs specialist doctor in Delhi.
Why is everyone blaming the government? Yes, they’re responsible but so are we the citizens!
Why don’t we realise getting a better vehicle, switching from generators to electricity investors can prolong your kid’s life?
More public transportation and safe travel for citizens is government’s job but using such devices is people’s job!
It’s a two way relationship.
People are getting married and having kids but they have no idea how plastic and such pollution can harm their future generations! How are people even having kids when they won’t have a healthy lifestyle?
If this is the nightmarish situation of Delhi i shiver to think what the state of air of other cities will be!
i have sore throat too .. in jaipur. the air is so soo bad. god, i don't smoke and i am sick of how we are still accepting it. and i barely go out in open .
Contractors r either politicians themselves or finance political parties
Power houses and other sources of poluution should install pollution control equipment within their premises.
Thank you, Uncle Shekhar, for making this clip. The crux of this conveys that North India is going to vanish from the planet, and only the human cockroaches will survive !!
Sir come to Bombay opps Mumbai , here we only have problems of potholes and sometimes a bomb blast .other than that everything is fine!

When was this study done?

trash burning in open is seen everywhere in Karnataka indicating a callous attitude of public and government to air pollution
There is one other most important and simple reason, population.
Reduce your population, bring it down to less than 1 crore in Delhi. Present infrastructure is made to handle this crowd.
Thats Possibly Impossible ! Measures with each individual would fix the issues
Sir, could you touch upon the JNU issue that is going the rounds ?
Why govt can not install huge dust collectors in various parts of Delhi or any other cities ? I do not know how to control Carbon Monoxide but I think some chemical scrubbers which can absorb carbon monoxide should be available.
We already have the best air filters known to man but we are blind to them and are either ignorant about their effectiveness or purposely turn a blind eye... They're called trees 🌲
While this is very informative video, referring the study from IIT Kanpur, the scripting of this video could have been made a lot tighter. This data can be shown with simpler infographics that would help better absorption of the information provided here.
Even the solutions should not have been shown in the table from the study.
When your viewers are counting on you to provide them information without clutter, then the video should also be planned like that.
Why suggest only this? Why not increasing the green parts to absorb the pollution at the same time?
So basically we are all screwed😔😔
You can easily estimate this job would take decades.
Hi. can you cover outside Delhi school of elite. You should reach the rest and look at how rest of Indians think. I want you cover Harish Salve on Ayodhya Verdict.
For next video can you please explain on CJI OFFICE UNDER RTI AND DISQUALIFICATION OF KARNATKA MLA THANK YOU
Did see anyone taking about electric crematorium instead of burning wood!!!!
Good data points, can be presented way better with graphs etc but at least picked up correct data points. It may not be as impossible as it sounds to cure delhi ... ensure no open areas around roads for dust, put grass and birch chips and regular watering... stop municipal solid waste burning ... cremation grounds should have air filters to ensure particulate matter trapped etc ... put sensors around construction areas which are centrally connected and ensure that data is used to apply penalty.... provide LPG to all who use biomass burning ... all combined may not be even 10000 Cr project which is not much by delhi standards
Whenever there is high pollution Modi ji leaves Delhi. During Diwali he is in hilly areas, early November when pollution peaked he was in South east asian and now in Brazil. If someone can just RTI about the air purifiers used in RC7.
For fucks sake. Politicians are not responsible for everything. A lot of these problems are solved without passing a single law, just community action.
@@rutvikrs fact is he needs to take action it's embarassing for the capital

micrometres, not micrograms.. 1 micrometre is 1/1000 of a millimetre. the smaller the particle, the more difficult it is to filter, and the deeper the particles would get embedded in the mucus membranes of the respiratory system...
One more very thoughtful episode, kudos to Mr Gupta.
New research is required. The data might be much more worse.
everything is said except the fundamental. PLANT MORE TREES.
@17:30 Why should only poor stop burning biomass for cooking? Why cant rich stop burning fossil fuels?
We need to do everything possible, he mentioned thermal plants as well. No good comes out of playing victimisation game
Why should we pit one against the other in every f*****g issue? Blame each other, nothing works
This problem can be solved in 2 yrs time. But admin and bureaucracy needs common sense. Report after report will not help. Take help from Europeans or Americans in design and implementation.
Sweeping of roads is a municipal function in Delhi and not a state function. All municipalities in Delhi are ruled by BJP. But Shekhar Gupta will blame Khatriwal and not Modi for sweeping dust, as he knows which side of the bread is buttered.
*Micrometre not microgram
All this has been known for decades. The real remedy is having national and local government which cares about the welfare of its people and will implement sweeping structural changes. The solutions have been well known worldwide.. nothing new here. But the national and local governments could not care less about ordinary people to push for large structural changes. So be ready to continue suffering for a long time in achay din. 😬
The worst part is Opposition is sleeping !!!
@@mxxmauuhan3597 exactly my point. The opposition there is sleeping just as the opposition in delhi is sleeping. There are no political protests or voices anywhere in the country regarding pollution.
