I want people to understand that during 1965 war, pak economy was doing better than india, they had better armors, faar better jets & at top of all they had support of US lobby. India was slow on all the fronts, india had no support of western world (except USSR that too because we used to buy jets from them) & india suffered major defeat in indio-china war of 1962 + we had a very humble PM & talks were about congress going to sack him (Sastri ji). In that environment, if india could keep kashmir & look into eyes of pakistan, it was very commendable. (in 1965 world media placed it's bet on Pak, it turned out more to be a draw than anything in pak favor)
Pak learnt that If they couldn't take kashmir in 1965, they could never. And that's why they started jihaad policy in kashmir soon after.

Made a dash to Lahore but halted because ceasefire was to be signed. Overall we captured 4 times more land than Pakistan. It was a handsome victory for India. If the war had continued for few more days, Pakistan would have signed instrument of surrender at Lahore fort.

Thats a fact pak army defended chawinda but had the un ceasefire not called in second assualt on chawinda and pasrur would have led india to take over sialkot and also lahore too. You guys were dreaming of taking kashmir ended up running like dogs to save your own cities when india open up second front in sailkot and lahore. Had the the war gone on for some more days it would have been decisive indian victory but still this was still a victory since India defended Kashmir but also made inroads in punjab pakistan.

    3. Why didnt India capture any strategic spots in 1971 that made Chamb vulnerable.
why didnt India take Neelam Valley and Skardu in 1971.

I had never heard of Tawi river ( Or Chakki River ) until Internet and Google Earth ( 2002 )

The lesson he did not discuss was the incompetence of civilian governments in all the wars except 1999 war.
In 1962 and 1965 our PMs were desperate for ceasefire at the earliest. And in both these wars if fight would have continued for 4~5 more days the result would have been in India's favor.
And in 1971 Mrs Gandhi did not understood that Bhutto was not interested in release of 93000 Pakistani prisoners. Bhutto's only interest was return of Pakistan land occupied by Indian forces during the war.
In 1999 Bajpayee did not agreed for any negotiations or ceasefire before Pakistan withdrew its forces.
Pakistani soldiers died like cowards while retreating under constant firing and bombing by Indian forces.
Offcourse Pakistani forces haven't learned a single lesson. They always works through their real or dummy proxies first and back them with their regular army.
Only thing is Pakistani soldiers wasted their lives at the alter of their generals while Indian were martyred in all those wars defending their country.

I think you have covered it pretty well bar 2,3 things which are probably tough for an Indian to admit for obvious reasons.
    1. Like you said in the video, Pakistan doesn’t accept Kashmir as part of India so in national perspective of Pak, we never started the war. India crossed the international border on 6th September hence India started the war, not Pakistan.
    2. The objectives of attack on Lahore wasn’t limited to simply expanding the fight to stretch Pakistan army. If that was the purpose, India would have attacked multiple fronts like Sialkot, Narowal, Cholistan and other border towns at same time. India wanted to capture the heart line of Pakistani Punjab to have better position at negotiation table after the war.
    3. Pakistan has the technological advantage while India could throw almost 3 bodies for 1 Pakistan soldier everywhere in the border which was the decisive factor at that time.
Pakistan’s army was never meant to be an attacking force in nature and generals at that time thought that they could force the soldiers to pull off Kashmir against their core training.
I would never understand why Pakistan waited 3 years to try their hand at that which could have been done in a better way in 1962 when India was plummeted by Chinese.

    1. Pakistan celebrates 6th day for defense of Lahore.
    2. War started with Pak's operation Gibraltar, India just opened the new theatres.
    3. Pak failed to get anything in Kashmir which was the main purpose, India couldn't get anything substantial in Lahore and Sialkot sectors where sole Pakistani purpose was the defense.
    4. Pak had technical superiority esp with fighter planes and Pak did have a slight edge when it came to some sort of air superiority.
The main things which came up in that war, far away from propaganda of our local media (I am sure Indians have their own propaganda stories), were that Pak army just didn't have that cutting edge to defeat India and couldn't fight a full-scale long battle and most importantly, India could always throw more bodies in war just like USSR did in WW2 against Nazis.

I remember my father let us not to celebrate Deepavali as the jawans were dying in dead cold in Himalayas. I think he was refering to ladhak, not Arunachala Pradesh.

as a Pakistani I want to say We celebrate 1965 not because it was a magnificent victory against India . But rather because of the decisive defensive strategical victory of Pakistan ( that’s why DEFENCE DAY ) .
Ayub khan wanted Kashmir . Though he failed the operation . INDIA wanted a powerful retaliation coz of this operation! And there main objective was to capture Lahore completely. However they failed in capturing Lahore .
Also Guineas world record was made in battle by a Pakistani
    M.M.Alam ( u can google ) he shot down 5 Indian jets under 30 seconds .
On other hand India was able to capture a number of small towns on the border sides and gained area on Pakistan. However the War was a naval + Air victory for Pakistan .

27:48 Because Akhter Hussain Malik was a genius. He was the most respected general in the Pak army at that time even more than General Ayub himself. And that was the main reason why General Ayub was afraid about his position and thought he might had become the chief of staff. General Ayub was jealous of his capabilities. He didn't want the credit of winning Kashmir go into Akhter's basket.
Pakistan was very near to take Kashmir had that swapping of generals would not occured.

Those who are celebrating 'defence day' for saving Lahore from Indian army forget that Lahore was in no danger to begin with.It were Pakistani generals like Ayub and politicians like Bhutto who provoked a needless intrusion in Kashmir ,totally misreading Indian counter attack.India not only opened front in Punjab but also captured four times more territory than Pakistan.Paksitan paid for their follies and their rulers gave their citizenry a lollipop in the form of defence day. Oye Lahore tou bacha bachaya tha...Kashmir tou Mila nahi ultra Lahore bachane ke laaley padh gaye...This has been a recurring theme in Pakistani history ..Of false heroes and false bravado.

Amazing analysis. It’s just shame the Pak armed forces did not allow to write the history. Pakistan came close twice to take Kashmir. Pakistani’s celebrate 6th Sep as defence day because India did succeed in taking Lahore but war did not start on the 6th Sep as you have rightly pointed out. I also agree with you there were no Victors only great many good soldiers died on both sides.

Excuse me but i have yet to meet a Pakistani who believes we won the 65 war in the sense being fed to Indian populous ,rather as the name of the event "Defense Day" suggests we celebrate the event in a sense that we defended our land successfully from a force at least to some careful estimates four times larger than ours at that time.
which you like it or not is an achievement on its own.
