Yes every cadet will be given a chance to lead a mission, from being appointed as the cadet Section commander, cadet Platoon sergeant, cadet Platoon commander, cadet Officer in Command of the company and Cadet Company Sergeant Major. Ex Panther is the last mission exercise where best cadets will be given command positions and evaluated. The best cadet within each vocation will receive the Sword of Honor while other top cadets will receive the Sword of Merit.

I met Kyser when I went to University in Australia (I'm also from Singapore). Did not know he turned up in this series until much later, we still tease him about it till today. Amazing guy!
On the other note, female soldiers choose to join the SAF, just like males who choose to sign on. You get to choose (with some exceptions and variations) your vocation in the SAF and which branch you would like to serve. Both male and female cadets go through the same thing and they will pass out together. However, the number of female cadets/soliders in general is quite small compared to males, as males have to do two years of complusory national service, hence why it is hard to spot the female cadets.
There is a series on the channel which focuses on female cadets and their journey in the SAF. It's a nice and interesting watch. The series is called ''Into the Fray - The Making of a Female Soldier''.
Males who serve their 2 years, get to select preferences into which vocation they would like to serve in. However, they do not make the final say, and there are many that do not get their 1st or even 2nd choice, as some vocations are really popular and highly competitive. It is a combination of various test (knowledge, problem solving, etc) + instructors evaluations and I do believe that your peer evaluations do play a small part in this too. I placed my choice as AirForce as my first choice, and was one of the rare lucky few that actually got into the AirForce (they take in a very small amount each batch, due to a lot of vocations being regulars only - those who sign on).
The OCS passing out parade is a big thing. Top military officials and the President attends the parade. They are adding more of this to the specialist passing out parade in recent years.

Most of the OCS courses in the West, follow the same type of training and similar courses, based on US/NATO doctrines.
As a university foreign student in the US I was allowed to complete the US Army ROTC program (because Greece is a member of NATO).
After my studies, upon return to Greece, I did my military service from October 1984 to February 1987 and I applied for OCS.
At the time, we had to go through BT, specialty training as Privates, conscript NCO training (in my opinion this was the hardest) and then those selected would go to Reserve OCS.
Back then, mandatory military service for Privates was 22 months and for Reserve Officers 28 months (with about 8 months total training).
About 18 months after my training, it was decided that going through all these training stages was too much and they consolidated everything to the OCS program, omitting the Privet Specialty training.
The courses in the Greek Reserve OCS were almost identical to the ones I had in the US Army ROTC, but they were more condensed as we were not University students but we were serving full time in the Army.
After completing OCS we would become Reserve Officer Candidates with a rank similar to a Junior WO and serve in operational units of the Greek Army.
Three months before the end of our military service we would be named Reserve Officers and get the rank of a Reserve 2Lt.

Ahh interesting! Are reserve officer ranks different than full time officers ranks?

    • @FLORATOSOTHON
      @FLORATOSOTHON Před 7 měsíci +1

@@JustAnotherArmyVet Reserve officer candidates have different insignia than WOs, but when they become 2Lts they have the one silver star insignia like the career 2Lts, however they are junior to them.
In the service uniforms the rank insignia are black in a patch on the left collar, while the branch insignia is also black in a patch on the right collar.
On the dress uniforms, the rank insignia are on both shoulder pads, while service patches are on both sides of the collar.
One to three silver stars indicate 2Lts to Cpts.
A gold flaming cannon ball with one to three gold stars indicate Mal to Col.
A gold flaming cannon ball, followed by crossed swords with one to four diamond stars (they are flatter, larger and look like ivory) indicate General ranks.
In service uniforms, where all the ranks are black one needs to see what precedes the stars to recognize the proper rank, because if someone calls the division CO as 2Lt, it's going to be a very bad day for them lol.
Age is not a criterion, because professional NCOs eventually become officers by seniority (although they are junior to military academy officers but senior to reserve officers of the same rank).
Conscript NCOs have whitish light green chevrons sawn on their sleeves, while career NCOs and NCOs from professional soldiers have patches with the branch colors and yellow chevrons on the sleeves of their dress uniform or black chevrons on the left collar of their service uniforms (1=cpl., 2=sgt., 3=staff sgt. and 4=sgt. major).

the reason why you don't any female is because no females have signed up as a career-soldier(also known as regulars) in that particular ocs cohort

There are like, 4 intakes a year into OCS and not every intake of cadets have female soldiers in them since the ladies are career soldiers instead of conscripts. You probably didn't see any simply because there were none in this batch.
