Archer was designed by Bofors since 1995, and is manufactured by Bofors, acquired by BAE in 2005, I think.

As usual, BAE systems only have stock majority in different companies around the world but it’s not them actually producing the equipment. It’s the local companies, like Swedish Bofors Dynamics and Hägglunds, who design and manufacture the equipment.

The exercise originated from Boden, a small town in Norrbottens Län, North west of Luleå in a nearby firing/training range (Official information). The regiments I19 (19:th Infantry regiment) and A8 (8:th Artillery regiment) are located in Boden.
I'm not too keen on BAe to ride on the fame of Hägglunds and Bofors. This is a Swedish weapon system!
The British also want to take credit for JAS 39 Gripen because of the involvement of BAe and CV90 again BAe Systems.
I'm guessing we'll read about the British taking credit for the Bofors 40 mm too! 😠
Having this love for BAe Systems I'm surprised that the Brits didn't chose the CV90 over the Ajax.

The Ajax for all intents and purposes is designed to replace both our aging fleet of warrior IFV’s with updated security and sensory equipment, along with improved mobility and armor protection, as well as as in order to fill out our now retired CVRT family of AFV’s such as the scorpion light tank, armed with 90 mm cokrill mk3 cannon, designed primarily for things like, infantry support, anti building/ structural support as well as anti light to medium armored targets ie a jeep or BMP to a Bradley, whilst its brother the scimitar uses a 30mm rahden chain cannon is designed for more anti vehicle and again fire support rather than the Scorpions 90mm howitzer, other such variants of the CVRT family line includes
The Samaritan ambulance which is a modified version with a medical bay strapped to the back
The Spartan assault vehicle which is designed as a cheap and lightweight troop transport and is still being used today in Ukraine.
The Stryker variant which has its rear compartment removed and replaced with a five racked retractable Anti Tank Guided Missile System (ATGM), and uses the swingfire wire guided ATGM designed as its job indicates as a tank destroyer.
And the stormer /stormer flatbed mine layer, which is where the stormer is basically designed as an anti aircraft missile system designed to well hunt down enemy aircrafts using the Starstreak missile system which is a guided anti aircraft missile which houses four internal sub missiles which follows and then hits the target and then explodes and is still used today in Ukraine. As for the flatbed minelayer it’s basically as its name suggests, a flat bed version with a shielder mine laying system, allowing a single vehicle to lay a whopping 240 mines per vehicle where as the vehicle drives along, the shielder mine layer would simply fling the mine over the side as it drives along

The UK acquired a small number of Archers (14) as an interim measure to fill in for some of the AS-90's that were donated to Ukraine, many more will likely be ordered in the near future should that platform be selected as replacement for the AS-90.
With regards to Ajax, the program is back on track and the issues are being addressed so hopefully it will continue in the right direction.

Sweden cooperates with BAE systems on a number of very interesting systems, the Archer and the CV-90 are some of them.
The Ajax is the evolution of the ASCOD made by STEYR of Austria and Santa Barbara of Spain, both these companies were later acquired by GDELS (General Dynamics European Land Systems).
The ASCOD was a 30 ton IFV, that was also proposed for the Greek Army in the '90s, with the name IFV ALEXANDROS, but it was rejected as too expensive (2 m USD each).
Unfortunately, the Greek Army opted to get former East German BMP-1s from Germany practically at a token charge.
Greece is now sending these vehicles to Ukraine, but the result is that we are still stuck with the old M--113 APCs.
The evolution of the ASCOD to AJAX, increased the weight to over 40 tons and a new turret with a 40 mm Cased Telescoped Armament System, replacing the Mauser F 30mm gun.
However, the upgrade caused the problems you mentioned.
Maybe the vibration problem can be fixed with the adoption of composite rubber tracks instead of the steel ones.

From what I see, the Rambo video is going for record viewings, congratulations.
Also today the Greek Frigate Hydra F-452 opened fire and repelled two drones from attacking a freighter in the Red Sea, seeing its first combat action.
When this ship became operational in the Greek Navy, in the nineties, I visited it and I have a poster of F--452 Hydra framed in my office, along with a cap and a T-shirt from the ship's souvenir shop,

Thanks!! I’m glad that my Rambo video is spreading to more people. I think it’s a good story that needs to be shared. We just need to get Sabaton to make a video and song him!! So, When did that frigate actually take those two drones down ?

    • @FLORATOSOTHON
      @FLORATOSOTHON Před 3 měsíci

@@JustAnotherArmyVet Very early yesterday morning. The two drones did not respond to IFF so the Greek Frigate fired at them with its 5 inch main gun.
The two drones immediately left the area.
The incident made headlines in Greece because it's the first time since 1974 that a Greek Navy ship opened fire under combat conditions (in 1974 the LST Lesbos bombarded Turkish positions in Pafos, in Cyprus forcing them to surrender).
We have a group in Greece called EROS HELLAS that makes historical songs like SABATON does.

@@JustAnotherArmyVet For some reason my replies don't seem to get through.
The incident happened very early Wednesday morning and reports are vague.
The Greek MOD said that the drones did not respond to IFF and were fired upon by the frigate's 5 inch main gun, forcing them to leave.
The EU operations HQ reported that the interception was successful.
A prominent Greek reporter, publisher and analyst of defense matters, reported that the two drones were shot down.
In general, there are a lot of complaints about the quality of information released by the Greek MOD.
The incident became headline news in Greece, because it was the first time since 1974 that a Greek Navy ship opened fire under conditions of war.
The previous time involved the LST Lesbos that fired on Turkish forces in the enclave of Pafos in Cyprus on July 20, 1974.
The LST had returned to Cyprus about 450 soldiers from the Greek Force Cyprus (ELDYK), it had replaced the previous day, upon learning from the radio of the Turkish invasion.
After landing the troops in Pafos, the LST responded to a request for fire support by the Cypriot NG, opening fire with its 40mm guns, forcing the Turks to surrender, before leaving the area.
Before surrendering, the Turks radioed that the Greeks made an amphibious landing in Pafos, but they didn't specify how many ships were involved.
As a result the Turkish Navy sent three Destroyers in the area to engage the Greek ships (LST Lesbos was long gone by then) and the Turkish AF send a squadron of 18 fighters to attack the Greek fleet in Pafos.
Due to an IFF mix-up, the Turkish planes attacked the Turkish destroyers, sinking one of them (Cotzatepe) and setting the other two on fire, at a loss of three planes.
Turkey protested to the US about Greek Naval forces attacking them and claimed they sank a Greek destroyer.
Greece was saying that there were no Greek destroyers near Cyprus.
The accusations kept on, until an Israeli freighter picked up from the sea Turkish sailors from the destroyer that was sunk and the truth came out.

They fixed the issue with Ajax with padded seats and better ear defenders apparently. With it being massively over budget and incredibly late it’s probably going to turn into “anything but general dynamics” just like what happened with BAE

@@JustAnotherArmyVet yes after all the problems that happened with BAE and the nimrod aircraft the MOD and the government basically said they wanted anything but BAE for future projects (this being one of them). BAE offered the cv90 back in the 1990s and built a mock-up of a scout version to be built in the U.K. which a lot of people wanted but the the higher ups chose the scout sv instead because they didn’t want to work with BAE. Most of the problems were down to the MOD wanting new technologies and designs that lead to redesigning and remanufacturing which bumped up the price and in service date and eventually they cancelled it. Ajax has taken so long people have been hoping that it would get cancelled so we could get cv90. Basically the MOD meddle with new vehicle contracts and designs instead of just buying the vehicle that the company originally advertised wasting time and money.
