home guard is like us army reserve
@@carlsilfverforsen5697 thank you!
You don't know how much snus "snuff" Swedish people use. We cant live without it. Like James J Hill said 1892: " Give me snus, Whiskey and Swedes and I will build you a railroad to hell" He made the Great Northern Railway.
The snuff as big now as it was back then?
@@JustAnotherArmyVet Even bigger now
@@hex1c really?? Wow
@@hex1c is vaping big?
@@JustAnotherArmyVet No snus is the most common, and biggest. Its been a cultural thing in Sweden that have been used for over 200 years. For other countries it might seem strange But its part of the Swedish identity whether you have tried it or not
I have watched this series before, and only now I noticed that Denmark got obliterated in this fictional story. As a Swede, this gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Just joking, but I facepalmed once I noticed and exclaimed "ofc Denmark was destroyed, this is a Swedish story" :D
😂 . It would be interesting though if Denmark had their own fictional story. I wonder how that would go… 🤔
And obviously the enemy went around Finland and not through. That would be a suicide.😅
About snus as my Lt said during my conscription back in 2009: "snus don't make you a target in the dark like cigarettes" so you can see it from a tactical viewpoint and as a confort thing for the soldiers and civilians alike during war times.
About K-corporations. They are not around anymore but there is talks to bring it back again.
Yes, great point!
Some answers:
Home guard, Hemvärnet, is local units formed of volonteers. Role model comes from Finland, and it was that kind of units that slowed down the Sovjet advance during the winterwar. Mainly formed with eldery from beginning, those who had left the military by age.
Snuff, you have not visited Sweden. That tobaco is forbidden in the EU. Sweden got an exception from it... Today even women use it...
The classroom I sat in had the contacts for hospital oxygen just besides me. All schools built from the late 1950 to late 1980 got the same ceiling. It can be put down within some hours. Carry in some beds. And voila, you got a hospital. Almost every school built then had a leisure farm, Fritidsgård, for young people to meet. Often a café, some kind of stage, a pool table and ping pong tables. The latest often for them self with big steel doors, that was the bomb shelter.
Where did my response go? Did CZcams delete it? 😂 I just wanted thank you for your insight. The level of preparedness by Sweden was insane, but very smart!
Another one of the outstanding videos in this series and that is really fascinating to see how it was back then.
They did an amazing job with this series! It really gave us a good perspective on what it was like during the Cold War.
Back tomorrow, or tonite... Got visited by my youngest kid... Love your post, but you already know it... Love your post, South Carolina 💕
Love from Sweden 💖
Thanking for making me smile. I hope you enjoyed your visit with your child. ❤️❤️
06:47 when it comes to swedes, and especially the military, it is. It's basically what our country runs on.
I’ve been out in the field a few times when soldiers ran out of cigarettes and/or dip it definitely was not a pretty sight 😂
About 20 years ago they found the destruction charges still in place on one of the major briges outside stockholm.
They ha been forgotten there during ww2
Oh wow!
Guess it was time to renew, just in case.
K-corporations still exist in essence although the number of corporations are far fewer. Some of the most important few are of course corporations such as SAAB, Volvo-engines, Nammo, Bofors and Hägglunds.
Thanks for your insight! 🙂👍
The purpose of the water is to displace the ground water. Basically you fill teh entire cavity with liquid, the oil floats on top of the water. That way the oil stay inside the cavity and dont leak out. Basically if you would have had only oil, the ground water would have leaked in anyway.
So the water water prevents the oil from leaking out. Makes sense!
Not the best scenario to have an entire society suffering from tobacco withdrawal in the shelters if the production suddenly stopped. xD
Very true. I’ve been around soldiers in the field when they ran out of cigarettes, and it was not a pretty sight 😂
I think that some goods that are seen as less important such as potable spirits beer and tobacco are seen as morale boosting and reminiscent of a peacetime society.
I actually did talk about it being a morale booster in my video, but I ended up editing it out. You are right though 👍
Yes, the home guard could be compared with the national guard. They are a reserve force obligated to 4-15 days a year depending or their role in the force. The home guard is used a few times per year as help to the civilian society doing fire fighting when big wild fires hits the country or during other natural disasters or big emregencies. Different from the US national guard though, the home guard is controlled only by the central govermeant as they are considered a service branch under the armed forces. They are also not allowed to be used during riots and such as it is illegal to use the armed forces for police work under any circumstance other than terrorism.
The National Guard is the only IS military that is allowed to be used for riots and what not. They were called on January 6 actually. Thanks for clarifying!
I think you realized by now that Sweden took the threat *very* seriously.
Yes 1000%.
Amazing that you from U.S takes this up :)
The worst thing Sweden has done is to demilitarize in the 90´s.
There is one thing Europe must do and that is to learn how to defend without counting on the U.S.
The things that happens in the congress etc in your country makes me think:
- Can we count on USA if there will be an invasion of another NATO member?
I like learning about Sweden 🙂. It’s my belief that if any NATO members get attacked, the US would step in. And I think the US would step in to save Sweden as well, even if they don’t get fully accepted into NATO 👍
Bråviken is a bay of the Baltic Sea outside the city of Norrköping in the meddle of Sweden
Thank you 👍
Bråviken is by the coast east of Norrköping and Norrköping is some hour(s) from Stockholm on the east side of Sweden
Thanks!
Things like this is what impresses me the most about our Cold War readiness. Swedish government has decided to introduce the concept of K-corporations again that need to be prepared for war and continue to produce certain items and goods for the Swedish people and military. You'll find the usual suspects like SAAB, Volvo, Scania, Bofors, Hägglunds, Aimpoint and what not in these lists, but you'll also see oil companies, food, agriculture, medicine, machine producers, steel companies, mines, everything that would be needed to keep society going and to be relatively self sufficient. Sure, you may be cut of from pineapples and bananas, but you'd just make sure you got what you needed to survive.
It’s very smart for them to start these programs again! Being prepared is so important!
3:12 yes
Thanks!
Regarding the nuclear program, my long-dead grandfather was involved in it. He said it was the worst thing he had ever done because they used flammable ether (etoxietan) during some stage in the process and every day he thought are we gonna blow up today, which made him leave it later . His occupation was chemistry.
That must have been a very stressful job!! How long did he work there?
@JustAnotherArmyVet Don't know excactly but because of the hazards mu guess itz less than a year
Remember that in the 1970 everyone was smoking and/or using snuff. It was to have a more normal everyday life
Very true
When i was a conscript (i am old) they wanted us to use snuff instead of smoking so that we did not expose ourselfs at night by the glow. To be nicotin free was NOT an option!
1:31 Bråviken is a bay about 80 miles south of Stockholm.
Thanks!!
This is a video from a Greek-US joint exercise last week, done every year in Thrace.
The exercise involves two 4 tank platoons of Greek Leopard 2 A6 HEL and Leopard 2 A4s and one 4 tank platoon of US M1A2 Abrams tanks.
czcams.com/video/R_ZODffQYAQ/video.html
There was a 4 week preparation period for the exercise that lasted 5 days last week.
In Alexandroupoli in Thrace, Greece has one of the best tank simulators in Europe, capable of simulating platoon size tank combat, so I assume that the preparation phase of the exercise also involves simulated scenarios that are actually played out during the 5 days of the actual exercise.
The narration is in Greek, but the statements of the American tank crewman says about the same things.
I guess the US Army finds training in the Greek environment interesting, because there are many joint exercises done during the last 5-6 years, every few months, involving various armor units from the US including NG units, elements of the 101st Air Mobile division, Marines, SEALS, NAVY and USAF forces.
Especially after the events in Gaza, the USAF requested and got additional facilities in Greek AF bases because the main US base in Souda Bay in Crete was overwhelmed from the increased activity.
Also a Greek military theater HQ base is used as the HQ for the European naval forces going to the Red Sea to protect shipping, with Greece participating with one frigate (Hydra F-452).
The EU Red Sea force will be under EU command, acting separately from the Anglo-American forces already there, although they will cooperate with them.
The Swedish film series you react to, seems very real for our area, given all the current military activities in Greece.
Is the exercise called “Exercise Thracian Cooperation 2024”?
@@JustAnotherArmyVet Yes, this is the exercise.
My entire high school had oxygen and nitrogen ports in all schoolroom when I went there in 91 to 94
Sweden definitely gets points for being prepared!
Snus is vital for swedes :D
😄👍
Do not touch our "snus" (tobacco). We swedes would rebel without it!
😂😂👍
Food < Snus
We got our priorities straight
😄😄
IIRC the water is there to prevent ground water contamination.
Makes sense, thanks!
The oil program was abandoned around 2000
I wonder if they would ever start up again…
@@JustAnotherArmyVet they should
No, the oil is no longer there. czcams.com/video/Xmat1tsmQ3g/video.html was one of those fuel storage, primarly for jet-fuel for the air force, later for diesel fuel since the air-force found problems with contaminats of the jet fuel. It was decomissioned in 1995.
Great thanks for sharing!
Some of these are being recomissioned as no one found other uses for the facilities
One of all those things that was done was to issue id-tags(the kind the military use) to new borns. I was born in the late 60s and I have one, with a chain that I think would get stuck in my hair.
Does the government still do that?
No. Wikiedia say they stopped in 2010@@JustAnotherArmyVet
@@stormmoster I wonder why they suddenly stopped 🤔
They had stopped with a lot of the cold war stuff by then. Also there were only one machine making them, maybe it had started to malfunctioning.@@JustAnotherArmyVet

I disagree with your call sign, it is not representative. " Just another".
Thanks for your honest comment 🤗
Again, well done for covering this. But just to add some contemporary context: We should now be so sure about Americas commitment to helping Sweden with Trump in the WH. Sweden must stand strong with Europe, the US is not to be trusted.
You are welcome. And thanks for your support. And yes, I can understand your concern. The US had a troubled history when it comes to trust
I start with a strong NO, the companies that today would support the nation with basic industry products are basically no longer there and that applies to pretty much all nations that are with the E.U. today, it has been one of the E.U's big agendas to totally destroy Europe's basic industry, 90% is in Asia now.
There is a big difference in the mentality of Swedish companies and management today than it was until the 1990s, from 1940 to 1990 the Swedish basic industry and other large companies were responsible and helped to build the societies for the good of the nation and they also made "good money on that for that time", today they are a big burden that competes with the rest of society for power over politics and the economy and overthrows the society/nation,but I don't think it's new to you, you've seen the same pattern all over the western world since the 1990s, the big companies today generate very little tax money for nations/communities but cost a lot in tax subsidized deductions, they want to be like floating islands that have no responsibility to any nation/society they have not created or themselves decide over.
Until the 1980s there were in Sweden 2 fairly large automotive companies Volvo, SAAB, 4 medicine manufacturers and research companies, Astra, Kabi, Fermenta, Pharmacia, 1 large electrotechnical company ASEA, 1 tire manufacturer Trelleborg tires, a few medium-sized battery companies, yes the list can be really long for Swedish companies then and now but most of it has been sold divided or included in mergers so there is not much left to build on when it comes to future civil and military stockpiling for the future imagined war and disaster scenario we are in the hands of the modern business world's thoughts and whims, "may God have mercy on us" for big companies don't care at all.
It seems that Asia is definitely getting a lot of business, specially China. At least some big corporations in the US are trying to bring more money to India and invest in India. But, that surely does not help European countries, such as Sweden, though. It is so important that countries can manufacture their own goods though. I appreciate you typing out your answer and giving me your insight. Thanks

Perfect, thanks!
We are always on high alert. We must be able to go home from our civilian work and change and gather to solve the task within 6 hours. After 24 hours the entire company must be ready to march. With endurance of 90 days. We have all the equipment at home. Vehicles and heavy equipment are located in secret storage facilities.@@JustAnotherArmyVet
