- Evgeny Kuznetsov, T.J. Oshie, and Lars Eller scored three straight goals for the Washington Capitals in the third period as they came back to defeat the Florida Panthers 4-2 in Game 1.

You know it's PLAYOFF hockey when the highlight reel goal starts with Ovie making a great DEFENSIVE play.
Legit playoff teams have a strong/good defense.. And that good defense starts with good forechecking.. The Caps had a very solid defensive effort today
I cannot believe how many chances the Caps absolutely whiffed on.
And still won😹
Bobrovski played pretty well
Honestly, the Panthers should have lost 7-2 or so. Our defense was not sharp at all. Credit to the Capitals for their determination.
The caps played amazing. Florida never lost a game in the regular season when leading after second period. Bobrovski did everything he could, he played so well. Anyone else notice Ovi looking at Bob and yelling right at him?

Sheary played out of his mind this game. Didn’t get any goals to show for it, but he was a star for the caps.
Sheary has probably been one of the most underrated players in the league during his tenure with the Caps. Doesn’t show up on the scoresheet a lot (but when he does it REALLY counts) but his presence is really felt when you watch the games

This was a huge win for the caps. They needed to get at least one of these games in Florida, and getting the first one gives them confidence and momentum right off the bat against a very talented top seeded Florida team. If they steal game 2 in Florida, they’re in great shape. They didn’t play well at home this year, but killed it on the road games.
Probably need 2 road games. They were terrible at home so will probably lose 1 home game

That Kuzy goal was an almost perfect clone of the Kuzy goal that ended the Pens in 2018. Almost identical sequence

This game shows how much playoff experience and preparation matters. Capitals are championship veterans and the panthers honestly look like they don’t know what they’re doing….all that potential but they don’t look like they’re ready to go deep

Caps played the game of their life tonight. I’ve never seen FL turn the puck over and miss passes as much as I have tonight. Hats off to the Caps for the win. I’m a FL fan.
Im a Caps fan and They havent played "the game of their life". They played well period. They have experienced players and it shows. Old guys are playing smarter than young kids full of energy.
I'd say the game of their life was game 5 against Vegas, when... they won the cup? Not game 1 of the playoffs, against a team with a bad playoff history and no cups. This is coming from someone who likes the Panthers.

Florida had a hell of a season, it’s only one game. With that said nobody just walks through the playoffs like they do in the regular season. When the caps were young we scored a ton, come playoff time it dried up and realized you need to play a lot of defense in the playoffs. Took them a few years to find the right mix. Should be a good series. LGC!

Personally kinda shows that playoff experience impacts a team’s performance. Kuzy, Ovi, Backy, and Carlson are all playoff vets so they can heavily impact a team’s morale and performance

Penguins fan here - Nice job Capitals! They showed the Panthers that playoff hockey is a totally different game. Regardless of whether the Caps and my Pens win their first round match ups, they both showed FLA and NY that this isn't going to be easy by any stretch!

Вот что хотите говорите про Овечкина, но такое ощущение, что Саня это яйца Вашингтона и всей команды. Есть Саня - одна команда, нет Сани - совсем другая. Чтоб всем суперзвездам так в отборе играть в 36 лет, как Овечкин выступил при голе Кузнецова. Один Павелски на ум приходит, вот кто тоже тот еще заводила и тащун. Даллас в этом сезоне практически полностью ему обязан.
Вашингтон забросил в регулярке 270+ шайб. У Овечкина 90 очков, т.е. по статистике он причастен к каждой третьей шайбе команды.
Естественно его отсутствие/присутствие влияет на игру! 🤷♂️
Так и есть, Саня это стержень всей команды, когда он на льду (или на скамье) это +10 к уверенности всех игроков :) настоящий Кэп !

I’ve kept warning that they won’t win scoring 5 goals and coming back from down 3+ every game. They are the Leafs of a few years ago. Even if they win the series, the Winner of Tampa Toronto will beat Florida relatively easily.

The Panthers tried to play a heavy game which is not their style. I would have to think they will not make that mistake again. The Caps first two goals in the third period were a direct result of ill advised plays made in dangerous areas by the Panthers. They will not win many playoff games against veteran teams turning over the puck near the blue lines...particularly bad because the first one came with a one goal lead in the third period. Weegar has to know better.
Besides colorado and Toronto every series could go either way this year

I’m still taking Florida in this series but looks like it’ll be a lot closer than I had thought. I think Florida taking those early penalties kind of put them off their game for most of the game . Can’t give your opponent , especially one who has Ovi , a 5 on 3 in the very beginning of the game. Doesn’t end well. I think Florida will come out strong and win game 2 and then will ultimately win the series. But it could absolutely be a 6 or 7 game series . Great game
Bob's butterfly was so much wider when he wore ccm pads. can any goalie in the comments explain why he would want to go away from that and why the true pads seem narrower in the butterfly position.

No, we didn’t lose bc of the refs. They sucked for sure and had some missed calls but we weren’t on our A game. Missed a bunch of passes and we just seemed “off” tonight. Hopefully this is our wake up call bc this is a MUST WIN series for us
