26 year drought of just winning a series is brutal. Congrats to the Panthers and their loyal fans.
It's rough when you've won less series than the oilers in the 20th century. But congrats to them all the same. Though the expectations for Florida is the finals or its a disappointment. They'll be put to the test no matter who they meet in round 2.
I’m a lifelong Panthers fan and I disagree - I want AT LEAST 2 playoff wins. If we don’t win a championship, so be it - I feel our dominance will continue for more than half a decade.

No. It's pretty effing embarrassing for the Caps, and I'll remember this series for the rest of my life because of stats like this, and the fact that Florida broke a 26 year series winless streak against us.

I’ve waited my whole life for a playoff series win. For the first time in my lifetime, my Panthers finally won a playoff series. I celebrated like we won the Stanley Cup. In the words of Goldie:

The way the veteran superstar Ovi jumped for joy like a child on the last goal in regular time proves this is the best sport. So much adrenalin and tension while momentums changing every two ticks

The Panthers were really blessed by the Caps this series, the fact that it didn't ever come easy will benefit them on the rest of their run. No game is unwinnable and no moment is too big, this is the team to watch in 2022.
Yup exactly, and I think that is the problem with the Avalanche, they go guns blazing first round and sweep a team only to lose in the 2nd round. Just like last year when they swept the Blues, now they go for a rematch. The Panthers faced that adversary.

Leafs fan of 43 years here, hoping to and terrified of playing FLA in round 2. This team is incredible, from Bob in net to Ekblad on the back end to a smart and explosive offense. Really happy for you guys! As a Leafs fan I know all too well what it's like to have a drought of playoff series wins and I'm genuinely happy for Florida.

If the Panthers had won this series 4-0 and had it been a blowout game after game…it would not benefit them at all. Instead they won a hard fought series against the 2018 Champs. A team that had 100 points! That is NOT a “normal” #8 seed. They won 2 OT games on the road and came back from a 3 goal deficit in game 5. This is exactly what this team needed.
No series will be “easy”, you have to fight for everything.
And even when you’re down, it’s NOT over until it’s over.

You can tell Ovie is satisfied with the 1 Cup and remarkable career. He's going for the goal record at this point. His feet just were not moving at all that game. Lol
Looking forward to some additional rest in the off season....lol. To be fair to him he was probably carrying that shoulder injury from late in the season.
Don't kid yourself. Ovie never moves his feet, unless he is way open. He basically stands in one spot waiting for the pass. That's pretty much 90% of his goals. There's the occasional hit and non-existent defense. That has been Ovie pretty much 99% of his career.

Congrats to Florida, though I was hoping for the series to go 7 games given the caps playoff experience. Sometimes a stacked forward group and solid defense is enough to make it past playoff stalwarts, not always though. The playoffs are a completely different animal to the regular season.

I predicted the boys would lose last night in OT... we are just old and slow and mediocre goaltending/defence. Glad I didn't get to watch the game. Not even upset. Caps got some serious work to do in the offseason to keep this team relevant in this ever evolving hockey league.

caps fan here and I gotta say, I am underwhelmed by what I saw from FLA.
The caps are not good at really anything except special teams. 5on5 we are trash, defense is trash, and goaltending is mostly bad, especially tonight.
Highly skeptical of the panthers beating a team that can match their speed and firepower.
Anyone whose watched the caps since we won the cup know that are just not good, and this series was pretty damn close
