How To Grow Your Outer Quads | Vastus Lateralis Exercies “Quad Sweep”

- Want a better outer quad sweep? Don't worry, there's hope!
I was scrolling through some of the videos other creators made and was shocked at the lazy answers that were given. These are some people I really respect like Dave Palumbo and John Meadows but the advice to simply "just squat more" or "your limited by genetics" wasn't sitting right with me. Simply because I know that those aren't true.
Unless you have really great genetics then squatting is a really hard exercise to connect to, they really depend on you biomechanics and not genetics. Also, the bigger issue then being bound to poor genetics is that you need to find exercises that really connect to your vastus lateralis. That's the quad muscle that makes up the outer part of your quad.
The key is to take all the pressure off your vastus medialis (the more inner quad that becomes dominant for most people) and only do exercises that really hit that out vastus lateralis. The exercises I do in the video really laser focus in on that.
Finally someone doing muscle growth vids that aren’t 10-20min long and are concentrated to small/isolating movements. Keep it up! You’re channel will be a success
Thanks bro i do try
Have to agree some people really go into the science which is nice but sometimes I just need a quick video
*your
Tremendous content sir. The nuance is valuable and you present it in an easily digestible format.
Thank you! I appreciate that. It’s a work in progress.
@@RyanHumiston this is amazing, I am a runner and wanted to put some more meat on my legs, and it was all going to my Glutes. This worked so well
@@alexanderfriedli4902 excellent
Man I tried the leg press part where you rock back on your heels on the way up to activate the outer quad and it makes a HUGE difference. Great tips thanks 👍🏻
55 years old...worked out for years...now people are asking how I’m getting jacked (and my wife!) 20 reps/insolation/partial reps/Ryan/get my protein(even if it’s shakes)/consistency 🙏 so simple...you’re a genius...thank you
I know this is 1 year ago but, respect you motivated me to go harder

This is absolutely amazing advice. You are so brilliant at condensing it into this super short video👌
This is the first time I come across your videos. Very much to the point, short and full of really good advice. I am amazed. Thank you
Ryan, you’re way above the grade! And you have all ready done the video I asked for! Way too go brother!!
3 videos in a row with all golden content. Keep it up you are amazing and know exactly what you are talking about. You aren't afraid to recommend against conventional wisdom because you know what works and what doesn't by really knowing your body and connecting with it.
You are fast, funny , and knowledgeable. Well done Ryan. I look forward to reviewing the rest of your vids. Keeper coming.
This vid has helped my quads especially rehab my left quad from an ACL tear and loss of muscle mass from over 15 years ago. Thank you for putting these videos together 🤙
Instead of Netflix and chill, I’m Ryan Humiston and growing! Awesome videos. I been training over 20 years and learn something new from almost everyone of your videos. Thankyou
This was what I was looking for! Thank you for the info and for not dragging it out to get to the stuff I wanted to hear. I’ll be following.
I have been doing these for awhile now and my quads have made growth . Thank you ryan !!!
for so long I struggled with understanding the various stands with a lift. I have bad knees w/several surprises on them. I was always told to "strengthen the quad" but never really show how to until this video. thank you. keep the videos coming
This is exactly the kind of help i needed, simple explanations to what ive been doing wrong . God bless you
Nice one Ryan. Awesome. That’s how you do a training video. Short and sweet. Straight to the point. Too many training videos online which are waaay to long and filled with nonsense.
Thank you so much , finally i can really feel those outer quads , no other exercise hits them like first two . Thank you sir
Dude, I've been looking for a video like this for years now. Thanks
Awesome 👌 Now I feel I can grow my outer quads. Thank you so much!!!
Great video Ryan. I have been working on my VMO for patella reasons/surgery reasons over the last 6 months way too much. This really helped explain how to focus just on the outside quad to balance it out.
Thank ya for this bro. Appreciate the exercise tips and advice on all the workouts. The examples u show and the reasoning behind it. Much obliged
Great information will be doing all these Monday. Thank you!
Most excellent. Watched this video a few times and incorped to my session tonight. Thanks.
Hit legs today and added a few of these, love the new lifts my friend! Those sissy squats are amazing, one of the best feeling leg lifts I've ever tried. Thank you for the amazing content!!
Great channel Ryan clear, concise information and content perfect for being in the gym and not having to scroll along to get to the movements and waste important gym time. Look forward to more of this format. Many thanks. Jim Harrison. Cheshire. UK.
Man, love your content. Can't wait to implement these into my workouts.
Best leg session I’ve had in along time..... Excellent activation/pump
EXCELLENT VIDEO! Best I’ve found on hitting this quad muscle!
Dude..your videos are so helpful. I’m really digging this channel.
Dude. Thank you. Love this video. Concise. Straight forward and super super coherent. Big big thumbs up
Super helpful. Inner quad always got the most work on these variations, now I know!
Fantastic no nonsense channel! Keep it up
Love your out of the box thinking Ryan.
A highly competent trainer with a relaxed fluency in the subject that can only come from years of experience and deep knowledge. The continuous tension is essential, for instance in the split squats makes a huge difference.
Ryan...you are a star!!! Mad respect... All the way from South Africa.
Thank you! This is the most informative video I have found this issue. Part of my problem is my heels rolling in and the habit of doing wide stance squats to achieve depth.
Always such great workout advice. Keep these up mate 💪🏼
Great video on how to better target vastus lateralis with tweaks to exercises. Definitely going to employ this into my own training. Ecspecially when he talked about holding the dumbbells slightly out in front to better target quads when doing split squats, and pushing thighs together and driving through heels to better target outer quads when doing leg press.
Great information, with a great sense of humor. Great job bud!
To the point, great attitude , best fitness CZcamsr
Love all your vids mane. Best informational content I've found. Thank you
Love the content, actually a thorough and detailed video.
I had a go at just these few exercises which I don't usually do. I'm more pre exhaust with leg extensions then some big heavy squats and finish with leg press. But these few exercises made me feel sick and I was done after 4 sets of each. Thank you for the tips👍🏻 keep up the brilliant work.
Sum very good tips, Ryan. Will def try these out.
I did this workout 2 days ago and the lactic acid burn was incredible. I took BCAA'S pre and post and honestly I can't remember the last time my legs were this sore! Thanks Ryan!
Great vid. For those who haven't done his full gym program, you are missing out.
I am trying this tonight! Thank you Ryan!
2019 , Best year videos from this channel - hope someday we go back to this talking-explanatory method again, Thanks anyway for your time and sharing your experience.
Great tips, definitely will help to upgrade my workout. Thanks!
Awesome tips mate! I’ll give it a try tonight at the gym. Thanks 🙏🏼
This guy just handed us all the cheat codes - nice video!
Straight facts and to the point. Love it
Big imbalance on my left leg. It’s creating knee problems. Went to a PT clinic last week and was elated to learn that I don’t need any kind of surgery for a torn ligament and that this was my problem. Of course, now that I need to run out the door and do something about it, I turn to your channel. Always direct, clear, and to the point. Along that line, your more recent videos seem to try to add a lot of humor and stuff. That’s fine. Some of it’s pretty funny and if it’s who you are, then that’s what you should be doing, right? But the thing that brought me to your channel and kept me there was the no nonsense tone of it. There’s so much bullshit out there. I’m frankly sick to death of it. Your tone (obviously in addition to the applied knowledge you bring) is something that is undeniably refreshing. Just food for thought. Thanks so much for all the wisdom you’ve imparted. Between you and one other channel (no names, but it exists on pretty much the opposite side of the spectrum as far as video length goes), I’ve been slowly correcting imbalances and avoiding the kind of injuries I used to incur regularly. I can’t even tell you how thankful I am to you (and that other guy) for this.
Thank you for this video, very informative channel I'm exited about watching all your vids.
I thought this was at 1.25 speed atleast, then checked - nope. I love this straight to the point videos, great explanation :D

I’m a thin guy. Been hitting leg press and been seeing a huge difference. Tear drop has grown quite a bit now. But I did notice I was lacking on my outter. This was a golden find. Great info. Conveyed the info very well. Thanks, man.

The movements you demonstrated are similar to what a mogul skier does in the bumps.
I've always felt that outside burn after a day of bump skiing.
You sir are badass. Subscribed.
Je viens de découvrir ce mec et je trouve ses conseils supers. Je suis fan. J'ai commencé cette semaine a suivre ces conseils et j'adore.

Great!. Very helpful. Thanks a lot.

thanks Ryan, will try all 3 tomorrow on leg day. My outer quad is undeveloped and I didn't know how to target it until now
Just tried this, great vid. All shaky and weak now. Never got to leg press, none in my house, squats and Bulgarians were quite enough tyvm 🍻
Love the content brotha. I'm a trainer and LMT and love how you don't strictly follow what science says is right. Super easy to follow content. Keep it up!
Tons of likes for this video if I could. Stumbled upon the info i was looking for. Great work. Fan from India.
Typo in the title, and great video. Thanks!
Outstanding!
