Hi Anna, thank you for helping people with great stretching routines. Could you please make a video on how to avoid common stretching mistakes? It could help save many beginners from injuries.
For example: "Overstretching" occurs when you stretch to the point where your body starts producing a lot of stress hormones and you cannot maintain a calm facial expression. Essentially, you're attempting to stretch at a level for which your body isn't ready yet. For some fun challenges, it's relatively safe because this stress reaction is actually the body's defense mechanism to prevent injury. However, it can lead to serious injuries if it is a part of your daily routine.
When you consistently hold and do stretching routines, you teach your body and mind that it is safe and normal movement so you get more flexible thanks to this process. The problem arises when "overstretching" becomes a regular practice. By doing so, you're trying to convince your body that it's safe even when it's not, potentially disabling your defense mechanisms, which can leads to injuries.
So always stretch to a point that does not trigger this strong stress reaction. Not only does it help prevent injury, but it also makes your routine much more enjoyable. In "overstretching", you're battling strong pain and stress reactions, which can ultimately kill your motivation in the long term.
