I (F) accidentally got engaged. He asked indirectly if I wanted to get engaged. After clarifying “You want to get engaged?” He nodded. I was going to say, “I can agree to consider it.” He heard “I can agree,” then jumped up and said, “Let’s go get some rings.” We got married 8 months later. Married six years now. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess that’s how two introverts get married.

I think that's just a cultural difference, in Brasil (and if I'm not mistaken in other Latin countries too) kissing and hugging your friends and family is quite common and socially acceptable, expected even
I don't like touching cause of my autism, so I'm usually the one out that doesn't hug or kiss others, but I understand it's just a cultural thing and it's not cause I don't like it that it suddenly becomes inappropriate
Ps: male friends do hug and depending on the friend circle they might even kiss, although the latter is more uncommon

I’m a lesbian! My best friends are a married couple- a straight man and a bi woman. My straight male best friend and I are super physically affectionate- lots of hugs and I love to give him kisses on the top of his head because I love him! Basically, I give him similar physical affection to what I give my little brother, if that helps contextualize it. However, this came after YEARS of discussing boundaries of physical affection and building our friendship and even living together. I also treat his wife the exact same way- hugs and head/cheek kisses bc i love my homies. There is a MASSIVE difference between mutual physical affection between friends and unwanted advances. Your average first grader knows that.

On story 1 and the comment of “who wouldn’t think they’re proposing with a ring?”
My husband (28m) and I (32f) have been friends for over a decade. We started dating in April 2020.
One day, six months later, my (then boyfriend) husband sat me down and told me he got me something but it hadn’t arrived so he was going to show me a picture. He showed me a picture of an engagement ring and asked what I thought.
I, oblivious, said “oh that’s pretty! Thank you!!” He asked me if I knew what it was and I said “yeah…. It’s a really pretty ring.”
He, confused, kept asking if I knew what it was and what it meant. We argued for a few minutes before he finally grabbed my hands and said “WOMAN. That’s an engagement ring!! I’m proposing!!” To which I replied “…no you’re not!! This isn’t funny!! If this is a joke I swear to god I’ll kill you!!”
He looked me in the eyes and said it wasn’t a joke and asked me to marry him. I said yes.
Three weeks later, he calls me to ask if he can come over because he lost some medicine at my apartment. We looked all over before he finally said he didn’t lose it, got on one knee and properly proposed with the ring… my response was “ wtf we already did this, I said yes!! I can’t believe you lied to me about your meds!!”
We’ve been happily married for almost three years😂😂😂😂

My partner and I became a couple after being friends for two years, and turns out various people already thought we were dating. We started saying "I love you" almost immediately. When he first said it to me I went "wait. That's illegal." _We're in eleventh grade! How can something sound so wrong but feel so right?_ Turns out I was completely wrong; kids CAN fall in love and it CAN be real. In hindsight, it was right because we had done the falling in love part already. We fell in love and then realized we should start dating, not the other way around.

All hes missing is "lesbian relationships are actually more likely to be abusive than straight ones!" and he'd have checked all the boxes for an incel that thinks sexuality is a choice and he can "cure" her.

The 'friend' probably fed him a fantasy for quite a while, and he went for it. The grass felt greener on the other side, so he went without a word in order to keep the 'option' open. Then the fantasy didn't live up to reality and the money ran dry so he felt betrayed by the 'friend', remembered how good he had it with OP and used EVERY excuse, trick and dumb excuse he could to try to deflect blame and love-bomb OP into getting his old, more comfy life back by any means. I bet he also tried to sleep around when he was away but either failed or was unimpressed with the other partner(s) prowess.
It was ALL his choice and now he regrets listening. He went because HE wanted to live a fantasy, he cut off his friend because HE felt betrayed that the fantasy wasn't real, HE messed up the job he was basically handed freely and HE ran out of money, all before he returned. He did NOT return for OP, he returned for himself. I hope OP doesn't take him back, she'll find out everything he promised was all lies.

Between being somewhat fem presenting and a lesbian, I always feel somewhat on edge out in public and my partner (who is VERY fem presenting) is so wary of men that if she sees any of them looking at her for more than a second she scowls at them. I told him ‘when you marry me, buy the cow because this milk is not free!’! He then asked when I wanted to get married? Fast forward 3 weeks and I’m at the table with the calendar paying my bills, he’s on the sofa watching telly. I said ‘hey, how does the 21st sound for you?’, he immediately responded ‘brilliant!’. The following week we were at the Courthouse getting married. Not a single time did either of us say anything about getting married during that conversation, he just knew what I was talking about. We are finally having a Nuptial Mass in August at our church 😂. He tried to buy me an engagement ring while we were picking out wedding bands but I said ‘no thank you, a band is enough for me!’! I'm demi, she's bi, we both understand that even though that's cool to me like I personally don't mind specific friends of mine kissing me on the cheek, it definitely not considered a "normal" behavior to most and we're aware of that. I think 2 friends can decide what their friendship looks like with one another, that's fine. But the thing is that BOTH people need to be in agreement. Clearly, OP's friend is not comfortable at all with that dynamic, and OP himself is not respecting the fact that she is a lesbian. Like there's a diff between not befriending someone because of their gender and not wanting to be with someone because you literally do not find them attractive. Dude's grossly overstepping and undermining, very "I know what's best". Idk, it's sorta the same stuff that a lot of us queers gotta go through with some "friends" because they think they're "helping us" cuz there's "something wrong with us" in their eyes. Big yikes.

Two solution to the fart problem: own it. Let the embarrassment show, then ask “can we just pretend this is our… 50th date?”
Or claim it was a frog, that stepped on a duck, who was covering a Dizzy Gillespie tune

The "go see a hooker" story is just a typical case of a woman getting mad at her man for having emotions. If he's upset she HAS to make it about her and play the victim. He didn't even complain to her, but she picked up on him being sad and immediately got mad at him for it.

I know, right? Sex is not the only way to show love and intimacy, but it's clear that OP was not treating her like a sex doll or anything like that. She's in the wrong here. OP is entitled to his feelings, and she really needs to see a sex therapist.

Story 2: One of the biggest misconceptions a lot of women have about passionate hugging is thinking it's just about the physical release for a man, when that's the furthest thing from the truth. It's more a physical way of telling your partner how much you need them, especially for those of us who rank pretty highly on physical touch as our love language.

As a woman with hormone issues. I get my period more often when im with other hormone normal women than with my husband. I spend alot of time with post menopausal women so i know that has contributed to my cycle. I do wayy better with my younger friends when they are on their time of the month.
Also at girls camp most girls would sync up with each other. Its true.

Third story op do hug kiss and touch your male friends in platonically normal way I don't think so don't touch people without their consent you are not that close honestly I don't even think she sees you as a friend
"Can't be friends with a straight man" maybe if you stop trying to touch her in an unwanted affectioned way she wouldn't have to think that

For the ghosted story, it makes complete sense why they hadn't discussed marriage/kids before then. They are a young couple, they got together when they were 17, therefore they were figuring out what to do with their lives, how to be adults, and obviously a lot of family trauma from OP's side. Their minds weren't on it until they got a bit older and that, that was the next step in their relationship.
I'm 24 now, same age as OP, and discussing marriage/kids as a viewpoint we both align on is important. No one wants to really waste 1+yrs of their life with someone only to realise we don't have the same views on it. Meanwhile, when I was 16-22 when I started dating, I wasn't seriously thinking about that. I was focusing on adulthood and getting to the places I thought I should be.

I bought a ring to my gf for Christmas, we were dating for about 2-3 months only, but I still had to be sure to tell everyone, "no that's just a ring, that's just a gift". I was a "cheap" ring, not good enough to be an engagement ring, but still something that is nice to not buy yourself (I think it cost like 250$ or something). It's been 17 years now and she actually lost the ring recently and she was pretty bummed about it, since it was one of the first gift I ever gave her, even tho I was pretty open about the fact that it wasn't really expensive.

Last story. That is hilarious!!! The dude didn't accidentally fart, he did it on purpose and admitted it in the story. Lying about it, when it's that obvious is pretty lame. The lady would have probably moved past it if he apologized or said he didn't mean to do it. Lying to her and pretending it's the chair is pretty immature. She did the right thing by leaving.

I always find it funny that couples live together for 7, 10, 15, etc. years and panic about marriage when common law marriage is a thing.
