I am of the opinion that hacking in a mon is okay if it can be obtained without hacking
Not everyone can play pokemon as a full-time job
I mean if you selectively breed a Pokémon thousands of time just to get funky colors i would think that the stats at least good
Whatever sickos breeds pokemon from the same family should be ashamed, or running a poke-mill to generate eggs.
You need to source your competitive fighting pets from only ethical breeders or else you'll end up with a shelder that looks like the one on slowbro.
Why else do you think it looks like that?
Bruh just hack this game is ridiculously stupid when building teams
The shit is something I wouldn't be surprised if it from PeTA.@@BigDeetz
@eli2210 it's a lot easier now too, which is the funny thing. A good video could be the most ridiculous competitive pokemon to get of all time. Immediately, I think of mew, deoxys, celebi, and Jirachi, which were so mythical at the time some kids didn't even know they were legitimately in the game
The key point here is that shiny hunting is completely optional, the game does not require you to have a FULL ON shiny competitive team, its purely aesthetic with some niche advantage here and there.
9:15 Oddly enough, it was possible to get shiny shadow pokemon in Collosseum and is why they are used for the All ribbon challenge
In Colosseum shadow Pokemon are the only Pokemon that aren't shiny locked and it's the other way around in XD.
When they made Colosseum they made the Shadow Pokemon's ID numbers random, so if they matched the enemy trainer they could be shiny then. The problem was that they also needed to match the player's own numbers or else theyd go back to being not shiny. By XD they wrote in code to shiny lock them.
@@GamingEelektross False, actually, but a very popular rumor. In order to be shiny the pokemon needs to match your ID, but due to a bugged shiny lock it reads the enemy trainer's ID and will not appear to be shiny in your first battle. You must catch it to reveal its shiny-ness, and if it was shiny it will sparkle on a rematch battle, though by that point its stats and shiny-ness are locked in. There is no chance of a shiny pokemon becoming non-shiny, unless you are the demonstration battle Hitmontop, as its stats are re-rolled after said demonstration battle. There are a nice collection of shiny hunters who have videos up on this, nowadays.
In XD, the shiny lock was fixed, and there are no shadow shines.
@@s.p.pennlight7299 A little bit of wrong info there too.
Hitmontop's first fight always counts as a rematch, their stats are always generated in the fight against Pikachu.
Also, in a rematch, the game takes the enemy trainer's ID to see if it's shiny or not, but only while it's in their posession, so a Shadow Pokemon that isn't shiny for you can be shiny for the enemy oponent in any subsequent rematch.
Funny story about shinies in coliseum, I actually got a shiny sunflora not knowing why mine was orange. I thought it was wilted so I sent it out in the rain to see if that changed anything 😂
Fun fact: due to a programming oversight in Pokémon Colloseum, it is possible for your shadow Pokémon to become shiny after you catch as the mons OT number would be overwritten by the player's OT number. While it was fixed in XD Gales of Darkness, it's still a fun tidbit
Not quite right. As I've come to know it the reason shadow pokemon "become shiny" in colo is because the PID/SID for enemy trainers is used in battle versus the player PID/SID. Once captured and the PID/SID of the player will apply and will reveal the pokemon to be shiny.
I believe it is possible to encounter a shiny pokemon on the enemy's side on colo and when caught it will not be shiny for the same reason, but I am unsure.
@@mysterymann4225you can catch shiny pokemon in colloseum. you are correct that the trainers shiny and the player's catch shiny are different roles, so if you catch a shiny, it wont be shiny after you catch it, but there is a shiny role for the player catching a pokemon, so you can only see if a pokemon is shiny after you capture it, but you can very much get shiny pokemon in colo.

Shiny galar birds (except zapdos) is comedy gold if it somehow works
I've seen shiny Galar Moltress troll TF out of people on showdown.
You could tell if the shiny beast doesn't have event moves if it's not in a Cherish Ball in later generations
the advantage shinies give is that they Look Cool and therefor I Hit Harder
for real though thats super cool something thats just cosmetic does have that small upper hand (or detriment) to em in high comp play

surprised you didn't mention that in gen 2 because of the way shinies are generated shinies are usually if not always worse than the standard counterpart

Ah, Pokemon mind games. Will never forget the first time my best friend hit my Mega Venusaur with a fire attack. It has Thick Fat but still pops up that "it's super effective!"
One I remember from reading a smogon analysis is that Genescect must always be shiny. An event distributed a shiny Genescect with shift gear, a potent boosting move. This was good enough set to even be part of one of the recommended sets, as opposed to a choice scarf set which operates entirely differently (boosing sweeper vs momentum pivot), making this one of the most important mons to have as a shiny (outside Greninja, of course).
Good thing nature mints let us use shiny koko. Still mad that the removal of transfer moves means heatran lost eruption. Just one gen after it could run it with a timid nature too.
For the gen 2 trio in gen 4 singles, there is an important note you glanced over.
The shiny optimization for Suicune and Raikou (and Entei if you don't want adamant nature) have suboptimal fixed natures. Suicune has relaxed (negative speed) and Raikou has Rash (negative sp. def). So if you want to bluff Aura Sphere Raikou, you have to run rash nature instead of something like timid/modest. The reason for this is that the trio were only given out in a Cherish Ball. There are no legitimate ways of getting a shiny non-rash Raikou in a cherish ball in gen 4. In the games you can see what type of pokeball your opponent uses for each Pokemon. So for VGC you have to run rash Raikou to bluff Aura Sphere.
But the issue is that Smogon (primary place for gen 4 singles) does not show the ball of the opponent's Pokemon. This is a problem because it means you can run a shiny Timid Raikou to bluff Aura Sphere and it is indistinguishable from an event shiny rash Raikou. This means in singles, there is a FALSE OPTIMIZATION. This optimization is still a thing but it is a weaker optimization.
In the real games you can use a shiny Raikou to bluff Aura Sphere but it MUST BE RASH. In smogon singles, you can run a shiny Raikou with any nature to bluff Aura Sphere.
This is an important distinction that must be made because currently Smogon allows an optimization that does not exist in the real games.
another one that didn't get mentioned was shiny genesect which released through an event with blaze kick and extreme speed which weren't available to genesect otherwise (blaze kick later became available to all genesect in generation 8)
Mythical Pokémon usually aren't allowed in VGC
7:36 I mean, to be fair, he also has a Charizard Y on the table
Babe wake up new vid goes hard
In a some similar way, Zeraora normally wasn't used in his shiny form, due to it being only obtainable in Gen 9, so it couldn't have the tutor move Knock Off, something that a Gen 8 Zeraora could have
Uhh… last time Zeraora shiny was obtainable was in 2020, through a Home distribution from a raid battle event.
That was in Sword and Shield.
Besides, Zeraora is unavailable in Scarlet/Violet and can't be transferred to them either. It can literally only be used in Gen 7 and 8
Shiny moxieboosted is a really pretty pink I saw it with my own eyes once
0:51 Poor Gengar. He deserves a better shiny color.
At least the mega form looks awesome and is getting it back.
Actually the shiny colour is great, the issue is that the non shiny colour got so desaturated in 3D that they now look so similar.
If regular Gengar would still have this popping purple then it would be an insane shiny
About the Johto beasts and shiny Gyarados if you pay attention to the ball animation when it’s sent you could immediately tell if it an event one even if shiny because they were all distributed in Cherish Balls.
For ones like the shiny legendary beasts or the shiny gyarados, you can't actually use just any shiny, it has to be another event one, as they'll be in the event exclusive cherish ball, if they are in any other ball you know for sure it's not those specific events
Just thought I'd mention it
7:37 "undoubtably." That ain't a word man :D lol
No way, Ranger contributing to one (1) Pokemon's viability. This is why Shadows of Almia is truly the GOAT
Shiny Blacephalon (and Smeargle, I guess) get a special animation for using Mind Blown. Doesn't change anything other than the ball being blue instead of white, but it's pretty cool.
Moxie I like that you acknowledge the existence of Smogon despite being primarily a VGC player. Unlike someone else that pretends it doesn’t exist and is inconsequential because it’s not “official” despite having millions of games every month
I honestly can't think of any vgc players that don't also play smogon tbh. So I got no clue who you're referring to
Gyarados has been able to learn Bounce via Move Tutor since Gen IV, so I don't see how that event distribution changed anything.
Transfer moves aren't allowed in vgc that's why
I still have my original copy of the entei raikou and suicune, it’s so cool being able to use them again in vgc even if they ain’t the best. I used to think it was so cool having sheer cold and suicune and I remember some of my friends being jealous of me in middle school 😂😂
Bounce Magikarp was also obtainable on the Winner's Path on the PokeWalker. It has a bunch of other special pokemon, but sadly was also only distributed through an event.
Shiny galarian legendary birds can really mess with someone's mind.
If they get confused, they straight up deserve that
So you're saying that Greninja would not be optimal if it was black or a woman
Just like real life
I remember there was one heatah fajita video where cte was forced to run shiny genesect so he can use espeed, so he made the entire team shiny to hide it
Blood with the Charizard plushie is a menace and I love him for it
The plushie mindgame lmaoooo 😅
Dude the music in this! First you use the gambling sound from Simpsons hit and run and then you put meteor herd from sa2b. You're the goat
Currently cleaning up on ranked ladder with my shiny entei from gen 4 that i've brought forward for years. Mints/hyper training have done wonders for old event pokemon
In the generation that shinies debutted - gen 2 - shinies were actually sub-optimal since they needed to have a specific set of IVs to be shiny, and they werent the maxed out ones. People called maxed out IVs 'perfect pokemon' and shinies werent perfect.
Fun fact: Tatsugiri's Shiny forms, like its regular colors, are also real types of sushi. 🍣
Who would have guessed?
In gen 2, being shiny told your opponent some of your IVs.
Something I want to point as well is that For generation 2 with how hidden power was based on stats along with its shinyness. A shiny Pokémon would always have hidden power grass or dragon at either BP 49 or 69
Rayquaza is another suboptimal shiny because it signals that it doesn't have the absurdly powerful V-Create, which was given to a Japan-only event Rayquaza. And in formats where it's legal, it's better to run shiny Genesect since it got Extreme Speed and Shift Gear from a movie distribution.
The persona 3 test music tho. Great vid too
Fly in the Freedom best SA2 track CHANGE MY MIND
Ofc
With all the new nature mints you’d think the shiny’s that are nature locked could be changed and therefore become even more hidden weapons because they’d expect the original and get the competitive version
I get where you're coming from, but it wouldn't happen to anybody other than mega-nerds specializing in other formats playing absentmindedly or distracted by something else, and would result in a pretty funny twitch clip, but unlikely to amount to anything more
You make the greatest Pokemon videos

Love the editor
"Who would bother going for the shiny Charizard X amiright?"
> Me, liking Shiny Zard X better than regular Zard and Charizard Y's shinies.
That shade of blue-green/teal is my favorite color. It contrasts really well with the bright red and I love it. It also feels- very vaguely since the colors aren't exact- like a Salamence reference. With the blue-green and the red. Also because Salamence's regular form is Blue and its shiny is Green.
iirc, an example you didnt mention is in gen2. you never really want to run shinies since they have a stat disadvantage due to the way that shinyness is determined in gen2.
Technically it doesn't even help to converse information to run the shinies. All of these event Pokemon come in cherish balls so running a shiny to conserve the information of what moves you can have was literally worthless if your opponent was smart enough to watch the ball when sending them out unless you had the event Pokemon itself. I've heard about people shiny hunting Gyarados in 2017 because they thought it would help them and it's very silly how much time was wasted for NOTHING.
The opponent needs to check for the split second the ball in the air. If they're busy writing stuff on their notes or just not attentive this matters alot
@@MoxieBoostedAnd if they're playing optimally they would check that.
Oh this is such a great point. If someone is seriously researched and experienced enough to know what moves a mon can/can’t have based on it being shiny in-the-moment, they’re obviously going to be attentive enough to make sure they watch the ball animation.
Landorus incarnate in gen 7 monotype and ubers couldn't be run shiny as at the time the only way to get it's hidden ability was through dream radar which was shiny locked so by running a shiny you where telling them you has sand force meaning the set was physical as apposed to sheer force sets that where mixed or special attackers
7:28 i love the more psychological aspect of competitive games especially outside of the game itself
Couldnt you tell the beasts apart by their cherish ball?
You only have a moments glance to tell

I shiny hunted all 3 versions of tatsugiri with 0 IV Atk, just beacuse it is a Sp. Atker. I just refuse to have sub optimal mons 😂
What would Heatran even NEED choice specs to kill from full HP?
Or was that just a hedge against being outsped so you could still click Eruption and do big damage even if you didn't have speed advantage to make it usable against mons without super effective damage agaibst Heatran?
When I learned that as of Gen 9, you can't transfer Pokemon from earlier generations that have "special" moves they'd normally not have... (I got a shiny Mew that took a while to get Fake Out via Gale of Darkness, then transferred it up from Gen 3, only to find out after Gen 8, they *take away any special moves given to Pokemon*)
Same thing happened with Lugia via Gale of Darkness too (if you transfer it from Gen 3, up to Gen 8 it's fine... but going to Gen 9 they take away Psycho Boost)
Really sucks though since, while I know Mew isn't able to be used in VGC, you can't have it with Fake Out in doubles in Gen 9 due to this removal. (no idea why they made this change except to make it so that "everyone has the same playing field")
Makes even less since due to Mew being the Pokemon that "learns every move" but then... taking it away lol...

Question, considering a lot of these event pokemon come in cherish balls, wouldn't the opponent be able to tell if your pokemon was or wasn't an event mion regardless of shininess? Or does this hope that your opponent misses that detail?
You only have a moment to see the ball ei it relies on the opportunity not thinking to pay attention for that split second
@@MoxieBoosted Ah, so you're saying it's not something easy to pay attention to, especially since you're not sure what is coming out of the ball, and even if it was, it doesn't mean your opponent caught onto it, so you may as well play the mind game if possible.

I am definitely going to be trying for as ll of my competitive teams to be shiny. The extra tilt might win you the match.
Tapu Koko did eventually get a shiny event in Gen 7 that could have any nature
Another set of shinies that can trick people who aren't that good/aren't paying attention is the shiny Galarian forms of the legendary birds, especially Galarian Moltres. Since all threes' shiny colors are just the color schemes of the Gen 1 birds, if someone isn't paying attention then they attempt to hit your psychic/flying galarian articuno with a normally neutral fighting move, just as one example. Galarian Moltres is the best one to do this with just because Zapdos and Articuno have very distinctive postures in their galarian forms that make them a lot more difficult to mess up, while shiny Galarian Moltres looks practically identical to normal Kantonian Moltres
No,Ting-Lu runs Fissure to make it’s Stomping Tantrum a MURDER-MOVE,it goes one of two ways:

Never knew about this for shinys!
You could actually manipulate mons in Colosseum and XD to be shiny once transferred iirc, its just that the shiny property didn't exist in-game. But, the way the game manages and stores mons' data makes it possible to to become shiny in other games. Similarly, the "genes" for a square shiny can come through in gen1 transferred mons and onwards. It's all mon and trainer I'd shenanigans and a consequence of them reusing code across the generations
Shinies do exist (and some Pokemon have wildly different palettes in those games), but the Shadow Pokemon were intended to be shiny locked. They're properly locked in XD, where only the non-shadow Pokemon can be shiny, but the locks were faulty in Colosseum, locking the Pokemon to the opponent trainer but when caught they might be shiny for you. Trading has nothing to do with it.
@@YOM2_UB I see. I didnt really say anything about trading specifically, tho
@@ashemabahumat4173 You said "to be shiny once transferred" and that "the shiny doesn't exist in-game" which gave the impression that a non-shiny Pokemon could become shiny once traded to another game.
@@YOM2_UB well I treat transfering and trading as different things since the idea is to migrate them to other titles versus simply trading with your friends in the current gen. I wouldn't think the later would change anything. That said, in gen1 that's definitely how it works on account of DV's. But if I'm wrong here then I'm wrong here.
To everyone that takes the time to breeds for egg moves, breeds for perfect stats, and breeds for shiny.

Greninja was my first thought seeing the title. Didn't realize it's never been VGC legal though.
Kind of hoping Legends Z-A brings Ash-Greninja back, I don't really like the one-off stat boost Battle Bond was changed to in SV. Even if it has to stay VGC illegal, being a pseudo Mega is _so_ much cooler.
I feel lonely as the sole fan/lover of Shiny Zard X....
Gyarados could get Bounce as a tutor move in gens 4 and 5. You could get that move without it being shiny.
Yes but vgc doesn't allow transfer moves
As a more casual VGC player who doesn’t even grind for optimal IVs there is no way in hell I am going for the shiny forms of any of these Pokémon
I'm surprised you didn't mention Gen 2 at all. I don't think there are ANY tournaments for Gen 2 these days, but still, shiny mechanics for Gen 2 meant Shiny Mons were inherently at an advantage, though I'm not sure if anyone knew that back then or if that was a modern discovery.
