  • Nissan is so serious about making sure the Titan XD Cummins Diesel Crew Cab 4x4 truck is the king of trucks, they gave it a double-barreled surname: Platinum Reserve. They spared no details when it came to developing this truck.

    Theres a few things you overlooked. First, the backup cam can guide you back to the trailer when you have the right option package. Second, when the tow/haul mod is selected, the new M2 Two-Stage turbo performs extremely similar to an engine brake. It performs so well that you rarely need to utilize the brakes to slow your load down. Ive driven every truck out there and Nissan/Cummins nailed the tow/haul mod in the Titan XD. I really wish reviewers would hook a trailer up to compare as the true engineering Nissan has accomplished would shine through.

      +Steven Kane Thanks for the info. I don't have anything to tow besides my Audi A6 TDI. And as much as I'd love to tow it to Audi HQ, I don't want to risk doing something wrong. That's why the TFL Truck guys should be your source for towing info. I'm focusing on the cab and the ride quality. Thanks for watching!

      Im a avid TFL Truck viewer as well but they have done a poor job testing the XD in my opinion. One test was performed with the trailer alone maxing out its limit then gauged performance by mashing the pedal to the floor up a mountain to get a time. No one tows like this, especially with a diesel thats not been broken in. Yet with other trucks they tested have been with a trailer thats at half load limit. Its almost like there very confused at what the XD is. The XD is not a replacement for a true 3/4 ton diesel, which has been stated by Nissan numerous times. Its designed for owners who continually tow at a 1/2 tons upper limit yet don't need the giant leap to a 900 lb-ft of torque 3/4 ton. Its built heavier and designed to control a load far better then any other 1/2 ton which is one of the reasons you are impressed with its ride quality.

      Right on Steven Kane! I just purchased a Titan XD Pro 4X with the Cummins and the owners manual CLEARLY recommends towing with the engine in the first 6k miles or reduced fuel economy and increased oil consumption can occur. I love the Cummins and Titan. Nissan nailed this vehicle. Oh yeah, the Rockford Fosgate system is incredible!

      defmc1 Educate yourself bud. Entire truck is made in the USA. You're basing your racist ignorance to where the corporate headquarters is? That makes sense. Best friend just got a 2017 350, nice truck, but still is cheaply made compared to the Titan. Gaps, rattles, and poor craftsmanship all around. FYI, the Titan is not a full size truck. Again, educate yourself man..

I'd bet they all close is quality etc. the Ram had a nice ride but that was the 1/2 ton and mine is the XD.....closer to an HD in size and ride. Go drive one. In fact, drive them all before buying!! Good luck.

    I have been looking into this truck for a while but a few things I am concerned about.
    310HP in a truck that size seems light, Denali just bumped there's up to 450HP
    I have read a lot of issues with performance and getting up to speed. I want to step on the gas and go. Not wait ten seconds to ramp up.
    But the biggest issue to me is this engine is at best-getting 21mpg. And I had a Ram2500 and i was easily getting 24mpg. Wtih a heavier vehicle and larger engine.
    Nissan and Cummings need to do some explaining about what is going on here.
    I hope they get it straightened out, I really think the truck looks great and is on the right track.

    The Denali 4wd with diesel is OVER 70k. Not sure where you found a "2k" difference. It's closer to 15k difference. Can't compare base Denali 2wd gas to XD 4wd diesel platinum trim.

    People...it's a heavy half w/ a Cummins diesel...not a 3/4 ton or 1-ton. Not even a comparison to those. Compare it to a 1/2 tom and the review makes more sense. Also, As Nissan tries to create the 5/8 ton market, you can currently get a top of the line Platinum Reserve for $51k...at a $64K+ MSRP. At $51k...This truck is a steal IMO. Yes, have driven. And, at that price...it is like $17k less than a Denali 2500.

    I own a 2018 Nissan Titan Platinum Reserve with the 5.0 Cummings diesel. I have had for 3 months, just reached 3K miles. I so far am averaging 19 MPG and just put 2 boxes of def into tank. Only towed once so far, 10K lbs and towed like a dream, rest is highway and in town. So far love it and my believe is that I will get better gas mileage the longer I drive the Cummings and hope will use less def as well. Great truck so far!

    Just bought a 2017 Nissan Titan. Got it home and noticed the stamped
    channels on the roof of the cab, are seriously crinkled/dented. Nissan
    said this is the way they were designed and offered no refund/ fix.

    before you buy. Nissan will do nothing for you after you buy the truck.

    Can the platinum reserve run on biodiesel?

    • @DieselDrives
      @DieselDrives  Před 6 lety

      +GARLO B That's a question for Nissan. I know that Illinois mandates b20 (20% biodiesel blend) fuel at all pumps. Here in Texas, we usually get b5. B99 or b100 would probably be impossible and only old MB diesels and VW TDI models from before 1999 can run without too many major changes or issues. But why modify a new truck when all you need to do is put fuel in it? US Government standards for pipeline Diesel is 35 cetane. Everything important runs on Diesel: firetrucks, ambulances, cranes, locomotives, backup generators... If shtf or fuel runs dry (which has happened twice from GA to TX since 2016), diesels kept running and for the most part, there was always fuel.

    I had the platinum reserve Titan and thought I would be happy in the truck. I had traded my 2010 Duramax Denali with 395k miles on it... I will answer your review in this way, I now am the proud owner off a 2016 Duramax Denali, there is no comparison between the two truck. To even attempt it is foolishness. The Denali is so much more touch in every way....Sorry bro, just a fact.
    P.S. I'm sure the platinum F250 is as well. I just have never owned one so I can't say for sure. But Nissan sure tried to copy it, even down to the name...lol just saying.

      @eq155000 Před 7 lety

      I would agree with you in this comment. However, the Ram 3500 or F-450 duallys are the only way to go if a person needs to pull more than 23000 lbs. I have owned several Denalis (and they were awesome) and they do not hold up to the power or torque of the the Ram or Ford when pulling over 20,000lbs (at least from my experience). I am not a Ram or Ford fan; I've always owned Chevy/GMCs but the truth is that I have found that the Denali is really for someone who needs to pull 20,000 or less but in great style. I do currently own a Titan XD because I do not need to tow more than 10,000lbs but, like I said before, I agree with you in that you cannot compare these two trucks. It's like comparing a F450 to a F750 or Peterbuilt or Kenworth Semi-Rig. Anyways, that's just my thoughts. BTW, can't wait for the next gen GMCs (2020) to come out :)

    • @eq155000
      @eq155000 Před 7 lety

      Another note - the Titan XD Platinum Reserve is overpriced and is in no comparison to the GMC Denali, Ram Limited Edition, or, especially, the Ford Platinum Ultimate Edition. The only one that I can think of that it may come close to is the Chevy High Country - maybe. Those bed inserts are just plain stupid and get in the way. This is why I chose to go with the SV as apposed to the SL or Platinum - these models just are a waste of money in my opinion, but i do not care about status either - i use my truck on a daily basis for construction work . Biggest wish is that it came in 8ft bed with crew cab.

      California smog is so difficult to pass that very few diesels can pass the test. Toyota doesn't make a diesel that would pass the test.
      That may also explain why Nissan bought engines from Cummins, rather than build their own diesel.

    • @DieselDrives
      @DieselDrives  Před 7 lety

      +Skyline Fever The problem with California is the enormous traffic which causes engines to carbon load, thereby reducing the engine efficiency and power. Combine the traffic with terrible drivers and crappy roads and you have a melting pot of terrible circumstances that fail to pass a test. That's why it's important to go on a road trip before performing a smog test. I once drove a 1994 Mercedes S500 (originally registered in Florida and then North Carolina) from Charleston to Los Angeles in two days. It passed the CA smog test.

    • @310Sole
      @310Sole Před 7 lety +1

      that's interesting, the long drive before the smog test. how long of a time span between your arrival in L.A. and the smog test? did you the do the test right after arriving in L.A.? i said interesting b/c I had a 97 altima from TX that kept failing smog test after smog test like 4 years back and my mechanic then recommended that i take it for a long drive before the test. the longest i drove it was 1.5 hour w/ some traffic here and there but still failed. i guess it really does work. should've drove for 4 hours at least. oh well it's good to know that it does work...

    Top of the line my ass. I still can’t buy in to this. The idea of having a daily driver that you want to be more efficient but have towing capabilities when you want it is a nice idea but you don’t need to sacrifice power to do it like this titan. The turbo lag and insanely rough shifting is enough to pass on the vehicle all together. This isn’t a truck it’s a Nissan. They don’t know what they’re doing yet.
