    Always look forward to your videos. I’ve learned a lot about trucks! I drive a 2006 Nissan Titan, 89k miles no problems! I tow a travel trailer 4700 lbs. All is good but I’m ready for a new Titan. Maybe a 2017 with low miles...Roman, tell me true. 2017 Titan SV 4X4 or the 2017 Pro 4x? Gas powered with best tow packages for my needs? Or, other? Its well advertised Nissan Titan XD is not trying to compete with the 3/4 ton diesels it is a 1500 with a diesel motor. Dodge also has a 1500 diesel. Depends on what you need your truck to do. Nissan trucks are the best value on the market I paid 40K for my pro 4x and for a Ford, Dodge, Chevy or GMC the same truck is over 60K. Wake up and smell the coffee not alone Nissan has the best warranty 5 years 100K

    Anyone recall the light duty F-250 from 97' to 98'? That was literally an f-150 with the heavier 9.75 rear end, 7 lug hubs and another leaf spring. That was a 3/4 ton truck, although a light one. This one is set up as a mainstream 3/4 in every way but the rear end being a semi float. Ford had semi float axles in the F-250 through 98', either the 10.25 or 9.75. Only the super duty had a full float rear. The XD is a light 3/4 ton, much like the F-150 can be configured as a heavy 1/2 ton.

This sounds like a good truck with the exception of some early '16 models. I seem to remember this started as a joint venture with Toyota but they opted out before it was finalized. does that mean it will be more or less reliable. I remember when Ford released an F-250 with a seven lug pattern, it was like 1998 and they looked identical to an F-150, there wasn’t this much controversy over that. I think this is Nissans pilot, introductory HD platform. They definitely are in good hands with Cummins. That’s not because Cummins makes the best engines, but it’s because Cummins really supports their customers. I’d like to see Nissan take the full jump into the HD market with a larger Cummins V8. Like a 6.8 liter.

    What is the difference between 2017 Titan gas, and 2017 Titan XD gas?

  • @Icutmetal
    @Icutmetal Před 5 lety +5

    When reviews call it a “5/8 ton truck”, people take that WAY too literally. Don’t turn that phrase into a math formula comparing the capacities of 1/2 & 3/4 ton trucks- all arbitrary terms anyway. There’s a little “half ton” in an XD, and a little “three-quarter ton” as well- jack of many trades, master of none. An XD has ratings of a 3/4 ton of 10-12yrs ago; but certainly not those of today, but a lot better ride. Not as quick as many 1/2 ton trucks, but significantly heavier and more stable when loaded or towing heavy.

No price on smiles per mile. To answer the OP's question. If you are looking for mods and after more of a after market get a 4x4 Tundra Sr5. If you are looking just to buy one off the lot both the tundra and titan are good. I like that i can fit a much bigger tire on tundras then on a titan. I had a 2014 Pro4x now I'm in a 2014 tundra. I do like the locker in the Pro4x. Both come with shitty stock tires. I ran Toyo RT's on my titan. Loved that truck but it had major electrical issues, and a much smaller after market following.

Just a few minor failures (backup sensors, internal fan controllers, etc.) plus the awful clearcoat issue that Nissan taught us all about with darker colors. I'm now looking between the standard or XD in 5.6L. I've talked to several folks who have really maxed out the 5.6L, one who was still driving at over 400K miles.

    • @cmelochick
      @cmelochick Před 6 lety +2

      technically it has a payload of 2500lbs, so its in excess of a 1 ton truck by capacity. What you call it is irrelevant. Domestic "3/4 ton" and "1 ton" trucks grossly out-haul their class capacity. The class designations are outdated and no longer applicable to modern trucks.

    I foresee the day when Nissan swaps the 8cyl for a very fuel-efficient 4cyl 4.5L. The new 4.5L produces 575# torque, and has NO EGR ! Nissan could then go against all 150-class trucks, and win. The HD class is now over 900# torque, so 575# can't compete in this class.

  • @simjet22
    @simjet22 Před 7 lety +19

    You guys need to stop saying that the XD is not a true 3/4 ton truck. It is classified as a class 2b truck just like the f250,ram 2500 and gm 2500 twins. So it indeed is a 3/4 ton truck...just a weak one. The XD diesel truck is 10 years behind on powertrain. Might as well go with the big 3 if you want a diesel. They will offer you the same or better mpg's, power folding mirrors,sunroofs, more technology, more hp and tq, all for the similar price tag!

    • @simjet22
      @simjet22 Před 7 lety +2

    • @simjet22
      @simjet22 Před 7 lety +1

      guy proulx .....FYI. There are light duty , medium duty , and heavy duty trucks. Light duty truck are classified as class 1-3 trucks. Class 1 trucks have a GVWR between 0-6,000 lbs (ford ranger for example). class 2 are subdivided in 2 groups class 2a and 2b. 2a have a GVWR of 6,001-8500lbs (f150,ram 1500,etc.)and class 2b GVWR between 8,501-10,000 (f250,ram 2500,Titan XD,etc.). 1 tons are class 3 trucks and keeps on going up. Just food for thought.

      simjet22 it's not a 3/4 ton the same way a silverado 1500 max trailering isnt.
      weak springs, shocks, tires, axle, and cooling.
      having a motor isnt the only determining factor.
      what is its GCVWR and GVWR? no where near a 2003 era 3/4 ton.

    • @TFLnow
      @TFLnow  Před 7 lety +6

      +simjet22 however, all 3/4 trucks from Ford, GM, and Ram have a GVWR ration between 9,500-10,000 lbs. The GVWR on the Titan XD is 8,990.

      I'm a fool that bought a Titan XD. That lasted 5 months, and I traded it for a used Ram (power wagon). No comparison, Ram is all around better. I'd like a diesel again, but not the 5.0 Cummins. Underwhelming engine. The XD is a chore to drive anywhere but on the highway. If you are pulling medium loads all the time on highway/interstate, it'd be a good option.

    • @garyluaders7716
      @garyluaders7716 Před 7 lety

      Buknoy Harabas yes, the big 3 make real trucks. Toyota and Nissan make wimpy expensive trucks. A Nissan with the cummins loaded cost about what my HD Ram cost and my truck has a real cummins, gets better mileage, and tows 50% more. The wimpy Toyota I can understand, it's not trying to be a HD truck. The Nissan is trying to play with the big boys and is looking stupid for trying.

    • @gary96gt
      @gary96gt Před 7 lety

      Yes I'm saying my 6.7 cummins is a real Cummins and the 5.0 is a wimpy motor pawned off on Nissan. literally the Big three 1/2 tons compete with whatever you call this 5/8 ton truck at a lower cost OR their 3/4 trucks blow this thing away at the same cost. The "massive" 4.30 gear ratio is irrelevant, capability on a heavy duty truck is the only thing that matters and the titan and tundra lack in that category. Yes my ram is fully loaded. I have basically the same truck TFL used in the cummins video, its basically a limited without the ugly grill. $68K sticker which is about what a loaded Titan stickers for only difference is with rebates I paid less than what a titan cost. so back to my original comment. Overpriced, under-capable, that's the Titan.
