Jeep JL/JT DASH PANEL REMOVAL - How To Remove and Replace
Vložit
- čas přidán 1. 01. 2019
- In this video we show you all the steps to remove and replace the Jeep Wrangler JL or Jeep Gladiator JT Dash Panels. We chose to swap the factory Gray Dash Panels with the Red Rubicon Dash Panels in the Mojito Jeep. We were disappointed when our Rubicon did not come from the factory equipped with the red dash so we added it ourselves. This install is considered a Medium Difficulty install and we are providing this video to help you with the installation process. Attempt this installation at your own risk. The process includes; Battery Disconnection, HVAC Panel Removal, Radio and Bezel Removal, Glove Box Removal, Dash Panel Removal, Passenger Air Bag Removal

We recommend picking up a set of extra plastic bezel clips in case you lose or break any during the dash removal. You can get them from Amazon here: amzn.to/2LTJKOQ
The Mopar Red JL Rubicon Dash Panel Part #'s are:

Big thanks to David (@DJsOffroadAdventures) for his help with advice on this project!
This is only our 2nd time trying out our new Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II Camera, and I noticed that on some of the footage the camera was having a hard time focusing. I apologize, and if you have any pointers please comment below.

I can not thank you enough for this incredible DIY video. I could not have done my project with out it, it gave me the confidence to to dive in and do it. I painted my dash hydro blue to match the body color paint on my gladiator. Wish I could post photos for you to see. And for those tricky screws under the grab handle. I found that the socket that comes with the Jeep and a philips bit worked great. Thanks for the reminder of reconnecting the air bag. I almost forgot. And you are right it is less scary the next time you take it apart. I forgot that one screw on the top dash and had to take it back apart. It was scary reconnecting the auxiliary battery…. I love Mojito, wish they still had it. The Red looks soooo much better with Mojito! Good choice. Thanks again.
We are always glad to help! If you are on Instagram we would love to see the pics of your new dash! You can dm them to us @shockerracinggarage
I got the hydro blue color too
And here I am looking up this video to get the red dash out of my Jeep😂 Great video though
ap1986 lol, there are plenty of people that will buy it from you!
I'd trade my grey one for the red
I’m from Arizona I’ll trade you
I can trade you my black leather one for it?
Remember folks, if you live in a colder climate be sure you have your interior warm before trying to remove plastic pieces. In the cold they will become more brittle and prone to cracking and breaking. Great video you guys!
Rich Beach good point! Luckily we had our garage at 68 degrees!
Great Tip!!! Thanks!!!
Great video. Thanks. To anyone attempting this, I'd recommend removing the grab handle. Simply remove the outward bolt cover with a panel tool, it pulls straight out (the inside bolt is already exposed by removing the climate control).
Thank you for this! Very well done video. Doing it myself took about 2 hours, going slowly and carefully.
SolitaryPine1 awesome! I’m so glad we could help.
First, thanks for the walkthrough. Second, I love the fact that you both did the video together and swapped back and forth explaining the steps. :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wheeew. Super cool! Congrats
Thanks so much for an easy-to-follow video. I was nervous about the airbag, but this video helped me understand how to do this. Took me about two hours to replace my dash. Thanks so much!!
Body color the old dash. Love the color of the jeep.
miguel martinez - Thanks!
I second that
Great call. I have a Mojito green JL. I'm about to pull those panels and spray them the color of the body. Just bought the paint yesterday. Can't wait.
TBH i hate the red dash, especially when it doesn't match the exterior or anything in the interior. So when I'm looking for a jeep I'll make sure that it doesn't have it. This is more work than I'm looking for plus the likelihood of tearing something up. Your video was educational to teach me what I don't want. Thanks 😂
Lol, glad we could help!
Great video as always, liking the red with the green.
Cory_TFIL -Thanks!
Thanks for the excellent video...gave me the nerve to tackle changing mine out! Swapped the stock red dash on mine for a color-matched Ocean Blue dash. Following along with the video made it easy!
DWS44 awesome! Glad we could help!
Thanks, I was looking for other information (replacing the light sensor on the dash top), but your video showing the *correct* way to disconnect both batteries was unexpectedly helpful! I was like, WHY is this still going, even though I pulled everything off the negative terminal. What a wacky config.
That looks awesome!
Great job w the vid.
Those pesky clip-tabs are tricky but w ur help on their locations are key to avoiding the hunt-peck method which is always gut wrenching when you crack something inadvertently.
Props again to ur vid and the new look :)
Eddie Man thanks man! Yeah those clips are a pain!
Thanks Eddie!
Awesome video you too. You both look like you’re really enjoying what you’re doing and I can appreciate that. I just used your video to do a complete flush and hidden wire install on a Midland radio. All cords are hidden within the dash now and it is very clean. Great idea about the lightning cable for the iPhone as well.
-Will from Arizona
Awesome Will! We are always glad to hear when we can help our fellow Jeepers! Cheers 🍻
Great video just wrapped mine red!! Thanks for the help!
Roman Marfil glad we could help!
Awesome work!!
Point Break Sliders - Thanks so much!
I love the way you explain each steps and first told people you were not experts but did your research. And you Mrs Lady have a very soothing voice! I own a 2017 JK, I consider switching over to the JL, waiting for the 2019 to come out so I can get a better deal on the 2018, who knows, might even end up with a 2019. One thing for certain, It will have to be Mojito!
Eric Parisien - Thanks, thanks, and thanks! Very cool!!!
I have a Mojito JL myself. You can't drive it anywhere without getting complimented, the color is fantastic. I THINK it is exclusive to the '18 models though. Could be wrong. Seems a shame.
Great job guys! Getting ready to do this, much needed info! Thanx again!!
Always glad to help!
Really appreciate the time you took to make the video. Made it so much easier for me to do. Thanks!
Glad we could help!
Thank you so much for doing this great video. I swapped my red rubicon dash panels for the black "leather" with red stitching panels for the Gladiator last night and it couldn't have gone any easier thanks to the guidance from your video. Start to finish (not including the 30 minute wait time on the battery) it was about an hours worth of work. Like others have mentioned, I think it definitely helped having everything warm -- it was ~80F in East Tennessee yesterday.
That’s awesome! Always glad to help!
Perfect, that's the exact same thing I want to do. Replace the strange Rubicon red panel for the red stitched leather.
@@dirtbikerdann It turned out really nice - love the look of it. Mopar part numbers are 6AC261R3AD-6AC241R3AA and there seems to be a lot of people looking for the red Rubicon panels too. I sold mine the same day they were posted on ebay.
I'm doing the same next week!
Great Video! I bought the shop manual but the video makes it a lot easier...Looks great!
mtrctylarry thanks! Hope it helps!
Thank you for sharing how to take the dash apart. I like the red with the green you have on the Jeep. I will use your suggestions with my 67 system to run wires behind the dash.
🙌🙌🙌If we ever cross paths I owe you 2 a beer! This was a great help. Added the red dash to my HellaYella JLUR
Sean Mufson 🍺 Cheers! Glad we could help! Are you on Instagram? If so, I’d love to see your dash in the Yellow!
Nice job, great video. Instructions are very clear. Personalizing your jeep to fit your tastes are what it's all about. Me? I'd have taken the red panels to a body shop and had them sprayed Mojito green. Love that color!
ac2fv we considered Mojito but decided it was too much green.
I love the color. I almost bought it, but decided that at age 63, it would better fit you young folk! Happy trails, God bless.
God Bless you too!
Great video, well done! Made it look easy.
operatorjjbiv thank you!
Awesome video! will definitely help me out in the future. Thanks!
Caden Blazek glad we could help!
Nice. I love the red!
I just got my red dashboard today .will install it later .. I appreciate your great videos and explaining ,step by step .. it's really helpful .. thx again ..
Zheng Chu glad we could help! What color Jeep are you putting it in?
@@shockerracing I have a hellayella jlur . I ordered red dashboard , but when it came a dark gray color so upset .almost cancelled it . But i can't skip my hellayella so inlove it . My wife and my mom love mojito . But it my jeep 😁 . Now I need change it to red dashboard 😎.. you guys really did great job on the video thx ..
Zheng Chu yeah, we were told our Mojito would have the red dash and we were sad when it didn’t have it.
KILLER video guys. You couldn't have done that better. I'm off to pull the dash panels out of my Mojito! JL right now! Can't wait. I'm going to have mine match the body color.
S Bridge that’s awesome! Glad we could help, have fun!
BTW, I've read several comments about the red clashing with the Mojito! (which it certainly does NOT). I've always told people, that's why they make thousands of different colors, everybody has their own taste. You have a BEAUTIFUL Rubicon, your dash should be satin red and it looks perfect. I have a Mojito Sport S. It's tricked out, but the red would be wrong in it as would putting a Rubi decal on the hood. Well, off I go. Wish me luck and thanks again for the video! @@shockerracing
Well done! You guys make a great team!
Thank you!
Thanks you guys about the 2 13mm bolts under the passenger trim. Never would have guessed it.
Glad we could help!
Thank you. So helpful.
Thanks for the video ... I followed it step by step. I already have my Sport S with a Rubicon look.
Awesome! Glad to help!
Nice job, guys! Looks like a total PITA to take apart. I have the red dash in my Granite JLUR. I think it looks awesome in the Mojito!
Domenic Armano thanks! It was a little challenging but it would be super easy to do it again now that we have been through the process.
Domenic Armano - Thx!!!
Thank you for the step by step instructions.
Brent Thomas no problem! Glad to help!
Appreciate the video. The T-Rex is awesome. I also agree the red should have come standard. I have the mojito as well. I named mine the Grinch and have a vinyl grinch face on the hood. Have been slowly adding to make it my own. Your videos are good inspirations for ideas. Thank you!
ShadyKracka 23 glad you’re enjoying the videos! It’s so fun making them our own, and we are glad to help out our fellow Jeepers with these how to vids!
ShadyKracka 23 - Thanks!!! Sounds like you have some awesome ideas as well...
Thank you for this DIY Video. Super helpful. I know I'm 4 years late for this comment but. I like the red. I have red on my 2018 JL Rubicon. I'm changing out my Grey for Bronze on my 2023 392.
I think you guys did a great job 💯
Thank you!
I'm considering getting the mojito Jeep. I actually like the red dash. Looks great!!!
Wow. That is a big project. I am surprised it is not just a clip in and out panel. Well done on all your videos.
Justin D that would have been nice if the panels were easier to remove.
Justin D - Yes it is, relatively simple but still a large order... It was so worth it though!
Thanks, your video was very helpful in showing me how to access the back of the stereo to add a 2nd camera to the front of the Jeep.
GeezerWheelClub awesome! Glad we could help!
Thank you guys!!! Great video. Going red too.
Glad we could help!
The red is what it needed and those are self adjusting pliers not vise grips 😂 I would use a micro 1/4 ratchet with a #2 Phillips bit to avoid any damage to the dash in the future. Love the Jeep and mods thus far guys! 💚
Jay Smith lol, I always enjoy laughing at my mistakes when I watch back through the vids to edit! It’s kind of like a game waiting for people to call me out on them 😂 but I definitely needed a better tool for the job.
Awesome! I’m going to color match my dash to HellaYella. This looked much easier than I imagined.
Fantastic video. I wasn't a fan of putting the red dash in the Mojito at first, but it looked really good when done. My wife has the Mojito jeep. Debating getting her dash either painted or wrapped in the Mojito
steve schaffer we thought about that too. Have you seen the pics of the guy that painted the dash Mojito?
@@shockerracing . I have not
steve schaffer I’ll send you a pic on FB
I just watched this video doing the same swap on my Rubi gladiator since they didn’t include it on due to gobi paint. Just wanted to say thanks!!!
You’re welcome! Glad to hear it helped
Looks great, good job
Jimmy Amaya thank you!
Jimmy Amaya - Thanks!
good job on the video. It's always nice to watch a video like that instead of taking a dash apart blind. There's no worse feeling than pulling on panels and not knowing for sure if you got all the bolts undone. A flex head ratchet 1/4" drive would have worked for the bolts behind the grab handle. I use them all the time and have them in all the sizes, good to have in your tool box. I'm glad my dash on my JL came in red so I don't have to do that lol
Richard Coyne thanks for checking out our video! I definitely need one of those ratchets.
Hello sorry to bother was wondering I have sport s and I want to change mine to red also is it the same even know radio is bigger on rubicon ?
Great video guys. My plan is to leather wrap the panels and put them back but this will be a bug help. Thank you
Average Car Guy glad we could help! That will look awesome!
i always want to do it on my jl ,,,,now after watching your video very complicated ,,,, looks great
Albert Attias - We’ll I encourage you to do it. There are a lot of steps, but I’d say the most complicated part was the airbag, trying not to lose the clips, and trying to find the clips we lost...
Thank you!!! Made this so easy.
Glad we could help!
Thanks for the video guys. I’ve been painting accents on my daughters JLU, and I wanted to paint the dash panels t match. The video helped, and after taking the dash apart, it’s really not that bad at all. Basic hand tools needed.
I wish I could share pictures so you could see the final result. It looks amaze-balls!
Oh, and btw...if you wanted to paint the dash panels the body color, and retain the matte finish of factory panels, just matte clear them.
Chicago area here as well...(Plainfield area)
P.S. 10mm bolts hold the grab handle on. A lot easier removing these 2 screws above the glove box with the handle removed.
I taped off the handle, cut it the letters, and painted the ‘WRANGLER’ the accent color as well...
Total Transport, Inc. that’s awesome! Glad we could help! If you are on Instagram send me some pics to @mojitojeep
@@TotalTransport I assume the right side bolt is under the dash end cap?
Great job on the video you Guy's! Super Helpful!!! I couldn't find one of the blue plastic dash clips on the end of the leather dash pad. Do you happen to have a mopar part no. for those clips?
mtrctylarry I have the link in the video description to the clips.
Omg!!! Thank you so much for not using the power drill for putting the dash back together.
Nice video, well done and well explained. As far as the red dash goes we don’t like it on our Rubicon and we’re going to try to find someone to swap a black one with us.
Thank you for the video. I have been battling a dead mouse smell in my JT. Your video helped me to learn how to remove the dash screen which revealed a sizable mouse nest and three deceased mice.
Oh yikes! Glad you figured it out!
Grest video. Easy to follow and super detailed.
Glad we could help!
This was a very well done video.
Thank you
Love the Red good job guys.
Bobby Morgan thanks!
great thorough video. well done.
Thanks!
Do you guys have any videos on how to replace the dome light switch? (The little knobs to the left of the steering wheel) I was hoping to see how to pull that off on this video but it seems like you did everything but that one. The front of mine snapped off so I got a replacement from eBay but I have no clue how to go about getting the current one out.
Personally, I prefer the gray dash, which I have on mine. But, if you're going with red accents on the Mojito, it will look cool! Thanks for the video, guys!
Project Napalm JL the red dash isn’t for everyone, that’s probably why Jeep decided against putting it in the Mojito Jeeps. But we really like it. Can’t wait to see it with the tops off and the light shining in.
@@shockerracing I think it's gonna be bad ass!!😁😁 👊
The red does look pretty good, but I personally like the grey with my Mojito body color. Nice job with the video though, it gives others a good idea for what needs to be done if work needs to be done on the dash area.
Les Szabo thanks for checking it out. We like the grey dash but we just like things to pop a little more.
Thanks for the video, I just swapped out the red dash on my Hydro Blue Rubicon XR. I went with the dark gray metallic dash like on the Rubicon 392. The red dash is not my style, and I didn't think it went well with the blue (looked like Superman). The darker dash leaves the only red accents being the red stitching, looks more subtle and a lot better. This video was very helpful and gave me a heads up on what to expect with the clips. I opted to not remove the 8.4 screen, as the radio unit didn't cover any of the trim screws that were necessary for removal. I also had to use a lot of force to remove the top dash trim near the center driver side, thanks for letting me know!
Always happy when we can help!
Appreciate the video. I have JL Red rubicon in exterior color and with the tan leather interior; you could not order wi the red dash. Black leather: red dash!! YES. Just ordered the red dash and will do the change out like you and your wife. Good job and thank you
john kraft awesome!
Great instruction... will definitely be watching this in the future again... will help when we wrap the wife’s dash... but I am confused...y is ur dash grey to start????
The Mojito, Punk’n, and Hella Yellow got the gray dash instead of the red. We were told ours would come red but were sad when we picked it up and it didn’t have it.
Really?!!? This is new to me... well glad u finally got what u wanted in...
JL LIFE OFFROAD yeah apparently Jeep must have thought it clashed.
Great video. I was thinking about color matching mine with sting ray grey
Looks good. Another tip may be to use a ratcheting wrench with the socket to get behind the grab handle. There's a Durango brake install video where the tech uses this technique due to limited space for a ratchet.
Gav Details thanks man!
Gav Details - Thanks for the tip!!!
Hey anyway to remove the vents ? With out all this dropped something in my vent
This was a super awesome video! You guys make a great team and are very patient. And super informative. How hard was it to find all the clips?
And you should paint the grey ones to match the JEEP body color then put them back in
Thanks! We have seen people paint them Mojito but we feel like it’s too much green then.
when your garage is so big, it has a christmas tree. :p Great video as always guys, You are a huge help
Lol, thanks! Always glad to help!
I have a Mojito Rubicon JL as well. I love the look of this dash!! Can you list the Mopar part numbers?
Dreadly_Locs thanks! The part numbers are in the video description 👍
I'm trying to remove my center bezel now. I'm so scared. This video was helpful 👍
Great video. I dunno if I wanna go thru that pain, yet. Lol.
Great job on the video. I just bought a 2019 Rubicon and do not like the red dash and am planning on ordering the silver or having it painted black.
Boss Hoss awesome! This should help you pull it out to change it. What color Rubicon did you go with?
I purchased a Rubicon with the Granite Crystal metallic color.
Same here. I do not like the red sock Rubicon dash. Plan on either wrapping or painting it.
I like the contrast it brings to the dash
All Cars United I really think it makes the interior pop.
All Cars United - So do we! That was a major selling point when ordering our JL and since the red dash is signature to the Rubicon JL I wanted the red dash even more... I feel it gives the Rubicon a unique look. Plus that red is incredible!
It also makes the stitching and every other red detail in the interior pop even more!!!
@@shockerracing definitely!
@@kimberlyanderson2141 makes the dash pop complementing the already vibrant color of the jeep!
In a side note, where's my shocker racing bottom for my shockerracing calendar cover pic Kim???
Nice video. I think the red dash with the Mojito is perfect! About to put the proper Overland dash panels in my JT Overland (came originally with cloth interior), and your walk through will be helpful. Want to swing over to Elmhurst and help. LOL! :D
Kellie Anton 😜👍 glad we could help! Let us know if you have any questions!
🇮🇹rosso è molto più bello, complimenti per questo video, grazie di averlo condiviso 🦈
🇬🇧 red is much nicer, congratulations for this video, thanks for sharing it 🦈
🇮🇹🦈🇮🇹
Thanks for the write up…however I was able to do it without removing the radio…any reason for that?
It doesn’t necessarily need to be removed, it’s more so that we didn’t damage the screen during the process.
Hey did you need a code for the radio once you finished installing the dash or did it come right back on? Beautiful Jeep btw!!!
Calvin Kia it came right back on.
Used my fingers to pop the AC panel off no tools needed for me on that end I was worried it would be harder amd didn't want scratches on panel
Nice informative video , I haven’t seen one taking the dash apart to swap the panels out yet . I’m also curious where you picked up the red panels from and how much you paid for them . We make most off the IP “ instrument panel “ parts at my work and then ship them down to Toledo for final assembly before they go to the Jeep plant. But you wouldn’t believe the scrap bins full of all the different color and wrapped option panels I’ve seen. Also It does make it nice like when I get my JL one of the glove box hinge tabs was busted and the dealership said it would take a week to get a replacement I told them not to worry about it and went over to to the IR welder that welds the two half’s together and made my own when the line was on break ... perks of being in maintenance I guess 👍🏻 but I like the red but I agree with some off the other comments that a semi-flat mojito panel would look bad ass !!!
Jason Meier - A Mojito dash would definitely look bad ass! No doubt. But I wanted more contrast. It’s incredible how the red stitching and detailing pops out now that the red dash is in. James and I got the part wholesale through his family dealership.
When you reattached the battery, was there anything that you had to do for the radio/nav system to get it running again...pike a code or anything?
Like a code not pike a code 😂
No, there was nothing we needed to do.
I wish you could get the dash panel in Mojito! Or which ever color you prefer. I’m considering getting one and having it painted....no such thing as too much Mojito!....love my Mojito! JLUR
Yeah, we considered painting our Mojito but we really like the satin finish on the red.
Jeep should have made the dash colors an option.
Agreed Satin Mojito! would be sweet and probably a one off until everyone saw it then it would be the craze...love the T-Rex
rambokd yeah that would be cool! And thanks, we made the T-Rex!
Funny... I came here wanting to get rid of the red dash in mine. Plan to swap them for the Sahara panels.
J W yeah, I know a lot of people don’t care for the red dash.
Do you know if this will this fit the JL Sport? I have the 8in screen and now all I want is this red dash.
Josh Robertson I believe the dash panels are the same across all models. If your screen is the same size as ours then you should be good, but you may want to confirm with a dealer.
Thank you for this awesome video. Funny thing is I watched it to change the Rubicon Red panels out, to those grey panels - you just removed. The Red does not look good in the Tuscadero.
Oh, I’m surprised they would put the red dash in Tuscadero. I would definitely change that as well.
Do the red Rubicon dash pieces fit on a Sport?
I believe they all are the same and should fit.
Do you know if this will fit a sport jl
trackstar1able I believe all of the panels are the same
Did You have to disconnect the battery first for air bag removal? Nice job!
do you still have your old dash panel for sell ?
Do you want to get I’d of the silver. Want to get rid of my red one. If not where did you get that from.
Anthony Nespoli you can order them from you local Jeep dealer
Nice job this must be the same procedure my dealer used to replace my defective cluster on my JL any major issues with your jeep ?
sean k thanks! We haven’t had any issues other than some weird dimples in our painted front fenders.
Did you end up swapping for the red dash or order one! Where did you get it?? I’m getting the silver dash too with my tan leather :( I really want the red
Daniel Tatman we ordered the red dash from Jeep for about $300... but I recently found this: www.allmoparparts.com/sku/6ab21srraa-6ab28srrad.html
Nice done job! By the way, have you the car battery disconnected before doing it?
Yes, we disconnected the battery
Do you know where I can get a metallic dash kit for my 2019 Sahara? I currently have the leather and I hate it.
Robert Hurley we ordered the red from the Jeep dealer, you can order the red or silver from your local dealer.
I would like my red one out. Do you do any installs for the public? How much would you charge?
Can i install it on my sport with the small screen ??
Abdullah Andejani yeah, I don’t believe the screen size matters.
@@shockerracing Thank you
You think that red dash would also fit a 2018 Jeep JL sahara?
Á CHIEF yes, I believe they are all the same size dash pieces.
If your panels are the leather look Sahara panels do you want to trade? I have the red panels in my rubi and I cannot stand them.
