This Benz is stuck in LIMP mode and won't go faster than 30 mph! This is actually a common issue and an easy repair for these cars. In today's video I'll be replacing the transmission conductor plate on this 2000 Mercedes C230k with the 4-speed automatic 722.6 transmission. These transmissions can actually be very reliable and cheap to maintain. Even this repair really didn't cost too much.
This repair is the same for all C-Class, E-Class, M-Class, S-Class, SL-Class, & Sprinter from '97 to '14.

Hey man. Not sure if you will get a chance to see this comment. I would love to be able to email you to ask you a few questions. Lmk and I can give you my email.
I am looking to buy a very clean 01 E320 sport. Everything checks out but the owner says the transmission has an “erratic operation and appears to be in limp mode” says it has the 722.6 trans.
I know nothing about these cars. Not sure if you have any ideas or recommendations. If so, lmk!
Due to the large amounts of these requests, I've made a membership that can be canceled anytime to contact me directly. I found myself spending hours helping people with nothing in return so I had to make a few changes. Thanks for commenting🤙🏼
Ford 6R80 main control is different, but conductor plate / leadframe / bulkhead connector setup is quite similar. Output and input shaft speed sensor failure is what I see most often. ZF design.
I need sumone in Chicago IL for e320 2003 that needs work
Any clue of the codes I'd get? My R350 just stop shifting Oneday and I thought it maybe my TCM it shifts electronically
Different trans then the one in the video. Likely a conductor plate, clogged filter, or just dirty fluid. Could be a failed shift soleniod. All of these are pretty easy repairs.
Have you seen this - www.ebay.com/itm/265730028685?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=7ll0qj3xTga&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=ngrzfgwrrtm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Normally you will get an output shaft speed sensor failure and it won't upshift. Th
Also If you can guide me to the full video I was trying to find it on your playlist... Great Channel btw! New Subscriber
Thanks for the sub!
Hey man, my CLK 320 CDI with a 722.9 has that the EGS short-circuit and dead sensor codes, so I suppose the TCM plate indeed failed. I was wondering what is actually done to the TCMs to refurbish them, is it just a simple sensor change or are some chips actually desoldered and changed ? Thank you
I'm not sure about the TCM. I only replaced the conductor plate. Those can't be rebuilt, but the soleniods can easily be swapped out if those are the issue as well. I didn't have any issue with the TCM
After parts and labor bill came out to 30 grand
You'd be surprised. This was actually repaired for under $150 total🫡
@@Mechani_Colehow ? Or where ??? I'm having similar issues. Mines is a 2007 and EVERYTHING needs to be programmed when it comes to this
What model do you have?
@@Mechani_Cole wow I need to go to ur shop then
@@Mechani_Cole lmk u kno anyone in Chicago IL
I swapped abs ring on left rear axle on my Mercedes Benz e320 2003 Sport & car won’t shift now I put on Drive can drive it around but my RPM needle won’t shift down was told to replace conductor plate I have code p0720 -P0500
Any update?
I went with aftermarket parts entirely, with someone having your similar issue. It worked for about a year or so, and then shit itself. Ended up installing all OEM MB parts (sourced from FCP 🙂), and was totally fine after, for another 2 years or so.
The original issue, I believe, was with the speed/RPM sensor (can’t remember the exact part), which was part of the conductor plate, connecting to the valve body. I replaced everything, except the valve body itself; including a DIY flush, which involves a 3x3 drain and fill.
I believe the type of ATF (auto trans fluid) is important, but people have seemingly gotten away with using anything from Dexron III/Mercon V to Dexron VI/Mercon LV spec’d ATF. I believe ATF+4 also worked, but most of the universal, multi-vehicle formulas typically worked out; this was usually the case for most newer ATF formulas that cover 5-speeds, up to 7-speeds.
Nah bro car been at shop 4 months today wild tbh ion even care no more dude told me Wednesday
Before that is been too mercedez dealer couldn’t fix it spent 3k on little stuff & den to like 3 more other shops or probaly 4 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️💯 & none but these guys just fix one issue in it just waitin on this issue to be fix & ima sell it I don’t even want the car at this point no more & is clean clean subframe all super clean car bro tbh
What code reader did you use to clear the codes after ?

@@Mechani_Cole thanks ! Will the m900 v2 work fine ?
@thelongranger55 not sure. I don't think so. I used 4 different scanners and none of them would access the TCU except for the one linked
@@Mechani_Cole thanks 🙏 I will find out .
So i got my conductor plate put it and after finding some very questionable work ( stripped bolts and duct tape around the o ring for the filter) i actually got the car moving!!! But it seems to be stuck in first gear i also found transmission fluid in the coolent expansion tank and immediately shut the car off. After checking the transmission fluid it looks like there's also coolent in the trans. Im thinking its a bad radiator do you think running an external trans cooler is worth it to avoid this problem in the future?
@S55OAMG nice! If it won't go out if the first or second gear, it's still stuck in limp mode. Were you able to perform the reset with a scanner that can access the TCU?
I think just replacing the radiator and flushing the system will do great. Could add the cooler if you wanted to go the extra mile and never deal with it again too.
@@Mechani_Cole yeah I was able to reset everything but once I added the fluid it kept disappearing into the coolant reservoir. Then it wouldn't have enough fluid to shift
@S55OAMG ah that's the problem then. Once the radiator is replaced or a trans cooler then it will build up enough pressure and get hot enough to fill properly
@@Mechani_Coleso I actually found out my issue and figured I leave a comment in case anyone else has the same issue after I Replaced the radiator and flushed the coolant and transmission fluid. It would still go into limp mode after driving for a bit and coming to a complete stop, It would get stuck in second or third gear. It ended up being a couple of the solenoids being bad from the water contamination after I replaced the solenoids, the car drives perfectly.
do you know if this process works for the 7 speed 722.9 trans?
It should be very very similar. May require different fluid and parts, but the process seems to be the same on most/all of em
@@Mechani_Cole hey for that scanner. what did you do when you first got it? did you have to download anything?
@tristankamers8862 mine was ready right out of the box. But I have read that it may need to be updated when you get it. Are you having issues?
She was the one
What was ure issue
Hey mate, nice video! I myself got a c43 amg with the 722.631 auto tranny, it won't drive either gear, only Park works. Could that be an issue of that board or do you have any Suggestion what it possibly be?
99 % of the time its the trans conductor plate that has failed. Very common on all these models. Check out the links and see if these fit yours as well. It should all work just fine. Just be sure to have the right scanner to reset the code or it won't come out of limp mode. Need the 38-pin connector no matter what.
Nice car BTW, hope you get it running🫡
@@Mechani_Cole wow, thanks for your fast Response mate. Most of the time i read issues with shifting to another gear that are related to the plate, but in my case it wont even drive at any gear so i was worried. But if you say it also could be caused by the conductor i am motivated to give that car a second life. Greetings frok Germany
@tobiasoderso2737 try it my friend and give us an update! One thing I would have done differently is get the scan tool ahead of time and see if you can reset the TCU. This will work for short periods of time and show you that the plate is bad if it resets and allows you to drive briefly. Basically, I wish I would have tested and tried to reset my code, before making the repair. However. The repair was indeed needed and car still drives great to this day
@@Mechani_Cole well, according to my research you have 2 options for scan tools- either Stardiagnose (which is awful expensive) or icarsoft (many report issues depending on their models..) i'll give it a try, maybe i got luck on my s202 😅
@@tobiasoderso2737I used the iCarsoft. But you have to get the correct model. It works great and was less than $200. I do have a full video on this repair as well on my channel
