  • This video illustrates how to replace the Conductor Plate on Mercedes Benz 722.6 5 Speed Automatic Transmissions.
    The Conductor Plate is a component of the transmission that eventually will malfunction as the vehicle ages. Sometimes the speed sensor built within the Conductor Plate fails causing erratic shifting, in other cases the float may fail causing the transmission fluid level warning light to come on, in other cases the contact points that send the signal to the Shift Solenoids may corrode creating shifting problems in between gears.
    The Conductor Plate in this 2000 Mercedes Benz C230 Sport was not malfunctioning yet, we replaced it as preventive maintenance.
    There are two links mentioned in the video, the first one explains How to Replace the Wiring Harness Connector that attaches to the Conductor Plate, highly recommended to replace this part at least every 100,000 miles:

    Trans speed sensor.conductor plate in my Commander went bad. Dealer wanted $650 for the part and rounded up to $1000 to include installation. Ordered it online for $80 and with your video as my guide, it was fixed in under 2 hours. You saved me $920! Thanks so much!

      @@eaton3456 Sorry just saw this. In the event others in the future have the same question, there is no programming required. Disconnecting the battery during the install will be enough to reset the PCM. Make sure all codes are cleared and you're all set.

    I have a 1995 C180 Mercedes Benz. I'm having a weird problem with my
    transmission. Its automatic transmission. If I'm accelerating smoothly, when it
    shifts from 1st to 2nd gear, the car jerks, like it‘s pushed forward all of a
    sudden or like something hits the back, and then everything goes back to normal. If I press on the pedal and
    accelerate fast, this doesn't happen. All other shifts are normal, it’s only
    the shift from 1st to 2nd gear when accelerating slowly. Could it also be the conductor plate that might be causing it?

    Hi thanks for the video.
    So I have some problems here, I have a E320 year 2000 (W210) that was messing up with the transmission. I decided to buy a kit containing a filter, gasket, connector and conductor plate to do a service on the transmission. After putting everything back together I got now the car in Limp Mode and couple of errors codes came out :
    P0715 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
    P0753 Shift Solenoid A Electrical
    P0758 Shift Solenoid B Electrical
    P0763 Shift Solenoid C Electrical
    P0720 Output Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
    Am a little bit confused now. What should I do? I believe this is an electric problem related to the solenoids. I did a battery test everything is ok.
    Thank you.

    Thanks for the video. This is a pretty old video and I am not sure if the guy in the video will reply or not but here is some of the questions I have:
    1) The local Mercedes dealer will NOT sell my car's conductor plate and other related parts to customers ( they are only for their in house service dept. ). So where did you buy the parts from?
    Legit Mercedes parts vs after market parts...
    2) Mercedes benz does not have Transmission fluid dip stick, so how do you measure how much fluid to add?
    3) As you said your car had no issue related to transmission but you replaced the parts as preventive maintenance, however I am hearing if people have shifting issues, by replacing the conductor plate still they have the same issue !!
    One of the reasons is even though changing the old parts, still you need to take the car to the dealer to "re set the code P0715"
    Is that right?
    Thanks for whoever leaves a valid replies to my questions.

    • @jemcnair76
      @jemcnair76 Před rokem +1

      1) and 2) -- You can purchase conductor plates and dipsticks from amazon or ebay.
      3) -- You need a proper MB scanner to deal with TCM issues. The common code readers you get from the auto parts stores usually can't "talk" to the TCM. icarsoft makes some diagnostic scanners for under 150 dollars that can do just about everything but change programming. You can purchase them on amazon or ebay, as well.
      Shifting issues can be caused by a plethora of problems... brake pressure sensors, brake pedal switches, fluid levels and quality, 13 pin connectors, and even the shifter mechanisms.

    If I keep randomly going into limp mode, but it's not very much.. Then can I just replace the cunductor plate, trans filter, wire plug, gasket and check the solenoids and problem solved? Or will I still need to go to the dealer to have the codes pulled on the tcu and reset. I plan on doing the work myself, I'm very much a diy guy. But when I was doing my research on the project, I came across a thread that said if you plan on doing the diy job yourself that the car would need to be towed not driven to the dealer to reset the tcu after. Which brought my project to a complete hault in fear of doing some type of damage. I feel like his advice was being directed towards someone who is stuck in limp mode, which is not the case with my vehicle. The reason I'm asking, is because the nearest mercedes authorized tech is a 90min drive from where I live.

All the Merc agents in UK have no idea what I am talking about , automatic sprinters are fairly rare still in the UK. Any ideas !! my business is stopped because my van has. Can you get the old part back and replace the faulty parts and re-install it? Can they look in the Mercedes star program for your vin and get the part numbers? If possible, you should undo the mistake, which was installing the wrong part, and install the correct components but to do that you have to know the specific original part numbers. I went on ebay and purchased a disc with the service manual information and use that for parts lookup. The wrong will cause problems, just get the correct axle and differential installed, the van is a good van.

    • @TaggingTechnician
      @TaggingTechnician Před 6 lety

      I did my work outside, but it is important to reduce the airborne contaminants, all transmissions are sensitive to contaminants. This is actually quite a difficult job, I would only advise doing this if you experience the symptoms, generally a transmission that remains in limp mode. These transmissions can be unforgiving and quite expensive to replace if a mistake renders it unrepairable. If your transmission leaks at the connector, that is an easier task, just be careful not to snap the connector's retaining bolt, only tighten it until the connector seats in the socket then stop.

      how did you fix this issue? did you remove the bolt somehow?

    • @TaggingTechnician

      I just broke mine last night, here is the fix. The connector retaining bolt threads into the receptacle on the corner of the conductor plate, so the end of the bolt is in the conductor plate. The solution is to replace the conductor plate following this well-made video, being careful to only tighten the connector's retaining bolt with your fingers until the connector is snug in its socket, then use a nut driver to gently tighten it about 1/16th but no more, it is only designed to prevent the connector from dislodging. Do not tighten it past hand-tight, and do not use a ratchet like I did because it will snap off in the conductor plate.

    Hello can I reuse the transmission fluid I just empty?

    • @TaggingTechnician
      @TaggingTechnician Před 6 lety +1

      It is not recommended since it is exposed to dust and other contaminants. It is a wise investment to recycle the old fluid and install fresh clean fluid that meets the manufacturer's guidelines. Re-using the old fluid increases the risk of catastrophic transmission failure. But you can if you really want to.

    How long do the solenoids last?

      i read somewhere the resistance values each one should give. search "mb 722.6 solenoid resistance value" you'll find easily
      it's like "first 2 should be between 4 and 8 ohms, the grey one between X and Y, etc". If out of tolerance, replace :)

      The MB brand fluid is purple but MB published a list of acceptable non-MB brand fluids, with different colors.

      Disconnect the battery for at least 10 minutes, then reconnect and see if the errors clear. If not, then I recommend a good quality code reader, I purchased the icarsoft i980 for my 2001 ML430 and also for use on my 1998 ML320. Shop around to find the best code reader for your vehicle.

    If you buy Made In China stuffs, please try to assemble connector to the plate first before installing. I bought one and the hole in the plate is larger than the screw in the connector. I lost 2+ hours. My 2000 CLK430 is very tight at the connector

    Why not flush the solenoids in a bucket with clean transmission fluid? You'll be surprised how dirty they are inside.
