Alice Wagner is taken to the police station after she is robbed. She looks through a mug book in an attempt to identify the man. Instead of finding him, however, she finds a picture of a man who looks very similar to her son-in-law Leo.
Season 6 The Man With Two Faces Dir By Stuart Rosenberg
When she returns home she asks her daughter Mabel about her husband. Mabel becomes angry and threatens to move out. Later, Alice tells the police about the mug shot and her son-in-law. They say it's probably just a coincidence. That night, however, the police come to Alice's house and arrest both Leo and Mabel. They tell Alice that if she had went through the female mug book she would have seen the picture of her daughter.

Any performance where Spring Byington is present is going to be a testament of humanity.
She and "Ma Kettle" were...uh...girlfriends
for many years.
Adult daughter :"Mother where have you been! I'm starving!"
Your arms don't look broken, Mabel!
Mabel Mabel sat the table.
Haha, true. But remember, she's a criminal now, used to stealing other people's earnings (indirectly), thus a parasite.
Obviously they were going out to dinner and the old lady was late.
@@sharksport01 To the world my name is Mabel, which you’ll find on every label; I am packed by E. F. Strable for the pleasure of your table.” “No cow in its right mind could have said anything like that,” Henry acidly comments. “Sounds more like Mr. Strable.”
I know! Criminal daughter and her criminal husband, at home making her mom cook and clean for them! smh 🙄
I always felt Spring Byington's name matched her personality and face perfectly...
You're right!
I was a kid, so I don't remember what tv show she was in, but she seemed so charming, innocent and friendly.
Back in the 50’s We kids were always at the black and white tv watching Spring Byington in December Bride. I had 3 sisters, i had too! But I also enjoyed it.
Yes!😊
Hitchcock could make a scene exciting without great violence.
Because he was always more interested in emotional and psicological crimes. I mean, perfect crimes. Those who don't seem to exist because are overview and goes unnoticeable. Cover narcissists and psychopaths. The ones who always greet you as the perfect neighbours.
Patricia Highsmith was one of the kind, too.
instablaster.
Hitchcock could make watching water freeze look exciting.....
Hitchcock is the GREATEST!!
That twist, at the end!! 😲 WOW!!!
"Good Evening".............💯........
....I remember women like this mother. Always always so positive and confident. Always put together, and quaffed. Always generous to a fault.
David Bell: *well-coiffed
quaffed ?
And naive
Coiffed ...
@@jamessandy5873 no, well quaffed. three sheets to the wind. drunk to the gills...she clearly sips the ripple!
I love these short well thought out stories. It’s almost like he boiled it down to only the essential scenes & words to tell the tell. Now almost 60 years later (12/13/60) it still stands up. True genius. TY 🙏
And then these shortened CZcams versions boil them down even more. : )
Just the facts, ma'am. Lol
Oh, wow. This aired less than a week before... before I, ya know, arrived. 👶🍼😄
Wow, aired on my birthday!
Yes indeed 👍🏽
I'm surprised how well this "condensed" version works. Never the less the full version would be even more fun and authentic.
Spring Byington played with many of Hollywood's greatest stars, and she always managed to stand out as though on her own. Great supporting actress, perhaps the female counterpart to Walter Brennan.
Robbed by your own relatives.
_Alfred Hitchcock Presents_ was full of twists, but this one is perhaps the most heartbreaking.
-Why?
@@auggie803 The crushing disillusion of the mother realizing the truth about her daughter. And the fact that she'd led the police straight to her.
Spring Byington was one of the finest actresses of her time. I continue to watch episodes and movies she appeared/starred in. No one compares to her compassionate, well suited rolls in film and television.
I watched this because of her; she has a wonderful voice.
I remember her from the TV show December Bride, in which she starred. Harry Morgan was a supporting actor in that show.
Wow! I'm 74 and remember watching her in December Bride" ! Great TV in the 50's!😂
Yes she was a magnificent actress! I love watching these oldies!
I only watched this because of Spring Byington. Such a lovely lady. I loved her in The Devil & Mrs. Jones.
Netflix you should have bought Hitchcock Movies.
Love these Im going to watch all.
I wish the same Patty👍👍👍
They used to have it on Netflix, but they replaced them
Netflix should have sold to blockbuster hahaha
It’s not the whole episode but the important parts. Well acted especially the mother. I felt so sorry for her.
The acrress playing the nmother was Spring Byington. She was a well-known veteran of TV.
@@sherrillsturm7240 oh thanks for pointing that. She's in lots of old movies and was the good witch in Wiz Of Oz
@@robin2012ism No, she wasn't. The Good Witch Glinda was played by Billie Burke. Spring Bynington was the star of an old TV sitcom called "December Bride."
yes ths in one word heartbreaking, such a good actress. i feel bad for her good soul
@@robin2012ism What? NOT TRUE!! Billie Burke, Florenz Ziefeld's wife played Glenda the Good Witch in the Wizard of Oz
I love it, a whole story in ten minutes, these other directors and producers have taken too much time of our lives with useless "fillers" in movies, have you ever finished a movie and wondered what a section of it had to do with the movie or just knew a lot was unnecessary?
Yes
IMBD Trivia- Hitchcock appears as a policeman tacking a notice to the bulletin board in the hallway of the police station.
Brilliant ,better than the majority of movies today .
Don't scream lady, you might attract the cops! LOL
Yeah i was like......
Me too . . .
Me three..
ha! it felt like a silent movie at that part
Her mom is a really sweet lady, to bad her daughter and son in law were bad.
Spring Byington is a good actress, was in dozens of movies and had her own tv show called December Bride. She did not start acting until later in life, she played the mother in this show.
Oh, couldn't remember the name of her show. Loved her, always seemed so kind, sweet.
Wow so much better than the junk on tv today!
@Tewdy Quew Some of the Alfred Hitchcock hours are on tubi like night fever staring (Coleen Dewherst)....Consider her ways staring (Barbara Barry)......(Anne Francis) the trap... a lonely place( Terrisa Wright) really great shows and more if you can deal with commercials

We have a proverb in India."even if worm-ridden, pepper is superior to sorghum." Hotchcock and O'Henry are like pepper.
Correction. Hitchcock and not Hotchcock.
I wish it was an entire episode!!! Love Alfred Hitchcock! ❤️
There's Alfred Hitchcock's movies & half hour episodes.
You can watch them on Hulu
@@marlenerosado7178 Also The Alfred Hitchcock Hour which ran on TV from 1962 through 1965
Fact is stranger than fiction . Once an elderly neighbour gave me a pile of unwanted books.. Among them was Alfred Hitchcock biography which I chose to start to read... Quite taken aback to find that his birthday was August 14th (need to check that) and guess what the date was that very day?!
Hitchcock is brilliant
The Detective is the same guy who played the anchor man in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory 😊
I knew I recognized the voice! Thank you!
Well spotted.

Hitchcock’s TV series featured more old folks than any other series.
Then and now 💁🏾♀️
Golden girls too
Older people were normal on tv up until the 80s.
What do you conclude from that observation?
There was a respect and sense of loyalty to established, long practicing actors. Much like British TV today.
I thought I recognized Spring Byington. So I looked it up at IMDB, and it was indeed her. She was in December Bride, which I remember as a kid in the '50s. Baby boomer memories, you know. I imagine there are other baby boomers who remember her, too.
Loved her, she seemed like the best.
Wish someone would get episodes of December bride
How horrible, I can't even imagine to rob your own mother and specially as she seemed such a sweet, supportive mother.
This and Columbo are my faves
💙😇 Both incredible shows.

I love Hitchcock movies
That was interesting. That was pretty sad. I wasn't expecting that. Some people can be really selfish and self absorbed.
A very unexpected ending. I felt so awful for the mother.
-Well-if she would get out of that habit of thinking everyone is a saint.
The cop was a good bluffer.

So wonderful to see perps pay their dues. In a most melodramatic way .
Brilliant! Although, I've met people with more than two faces who were never in jail.
😂😂😂
Before people started wearing pajamas to the store 🏬.
great ending, and wish that justice today could be so swift, seems like Alfred Hitchcock had a way with his tv show mini movies, it was suspenseful and kept you on the edge each week. I know from that era.....watched his show, plus other scary shows at late at night, anyone else watch this on late night tv as a kid....
Networks followed the motion picture code. Criminals should not profit from evil deeds.
What a nice and large apartment. Too bad they stopped making them. Now people have to live in tiny boxes yet pay 10x the amount that huge one cost back then.
Hehe
My apartment is a good size. It depends on what state you live in.
That apartment looks like it’s part of a converted house. Even back then apartment buildings had no character.
There were 100 million people in the US back then.. almost 400 million now.
Function of population growth.
pity it's not full episode, nevertheless, enjoyed it
Have you ever seen or heard of a lady that gets attacked and doesn't scream?
For those that have Peacock, it’s season 6, episode 11. 😊
December Bride....we watched it every day after Lucy....fun
This Why Mr Hitchcock Was 🏆
The mother was Spring Byington also known for her role in December Bride
She resembles Miriam Hopkins
Love columbo too...great drama
I want full episodes
Wait a minute, when I saw that young hooligan strike that little old lady I was shocked 🌩️
Dude really needed his heroin.
I don't know why! Criminals have always existed! Purse snatches and robberies were the norm; when a junkie needs a fix! 🙄🚬
What shocked me was that she didn't scream. Or even speak, Not even a "Stop That!" Very strange and unnatural reaction.
Always loved Spring Byington.
As have i ☺
Me too
That’s a GOOD one! Short but great!
Love Hitchcock episodes thank you❤😘
The sweetstrained nature of the mother in law lady here is oppo of what we many daughters in law get in real life
Nice episode and thanks for uploading
Love the necktie and the water fountain with paper cone-cups.
I thought I recognized the mother from other movies, as she's been in many. One the main ones for me, was in 1946, with Vincent Price and Gene Tierney , her role was that of a maid named "Magda" in the movie Dragonwyck. I always thought she had a lovely smile, she had a certain way of looking upwards seemingly past you.
Nowadays accused criminals lie, deny, litigate and obfuscate.
👍👌👏 Thank you very much for uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and health.
I think the originals were 30 minutes long. That's why they are only showing the high lights.😊
Spring Byington, one of the best actresses of that era!
GREAT SHOW GREAT WRITING ,QUARANTINED FOR THE CORONAVIRUS ,IT WAS GREAT TO SEE REAL ACTING AND GREAT TELEVISION ,THAT TOOK ME BACK TO MY CHILDHOOD, OF THE 1960
Just wait til you fully understand the real acting in the drama and crimes of coronavirus..... that's been great TV for years. In fact, the childhoods of millions will be affected and it too will take them 60 years to truly know how great the writing was.
Wonderful story!
Pure Hitchcock crime drama.
Now I admire Alfred Hitchcock more than O'Henry.
Lord, she didn't even scream..Un un hunni, I would have alarmed the whole neighborhood
Back then you could forgive your daughter and son in law for holding up banks as long as they gave you some cute grandkids.
Why didn't she just give him her purse all she probably had in it was some Kleenex & had her money rolled up in a handkerchief pinned to her bra 😉my grandma & her friends used do it all the time December 3, 2019

Pretty chirpy for a victim of a violent crime 😁

She didn't scream maybe she got scared.
Had it been any other old broad and she would have been screaming bloody murder!!!
Was too dark.
That purse sure was tangled up alright she almost got away with it when she turned and ran. I wondered too about not screaming if she had I don't think he would have gone after the purse a second time.
Good one.

Yeah, Leo made a lot of money in California a lot of money! Where is it? bad investments.
I like that police guy..perfect man
Stephen Dunne. He was good in all the roles I saw him in.
It would be nice if all police officers were like him!❤

That daughter makes me so mad, I mean she had a sweet and generous mother and then she became a criminal and hooked up with another criminal and then took advantage of her mother for room and board.

Why do they keep showing only 1/2 episodes? What is the point?
Nice
The guy at the police station who helped Spring Byington played a news caster in Willy Wonka 1971.
Hitchcock was the master storyteller 😊
Great movie
I look at this everyday three or four times a day
Nice short

Big surprise at the end, yet in a way, it may not be. But there’s hope. Micah 7:3-7
A twist at the end.
Spring Byington ha her own series for awhile called "December Bride". Verna Felton played her sidekick.
Me too I like Hitchcock Columbo and Monk
Felt so bad for this sweet old lady.
That’s a really nice apartment. Looks the size of a house. I wish they still made apartments like that. Did she rent since her daughter’s birth or back then was it like a condo or townhome they purchased and she called an apartment?
There wasn't one other person on that street! Kind of like a sound stage. Really good episode. I was actually surprised at the end.
Good thing you didn't read the description they put here with the video. They tell the ending.
