Claude Raines is one of my favorite classic actors. What a great story!
Claude Rains is the only reason I'm watching this incomplete episode
An incredible actor, the very best
This one is special. No murder, homicide, conspiracy, serial killers, abduction, thief, .... Ending is extraordinary .
Child neglect and abandonment, child endangerment, dereliction of duty by police.
@@totallyfrozen Good old days when people have heart and honesty and did not suspect everybody for everything
One of the most tame and sweetest Hitchcock episodes.
Yes, I was waiting for a certain twist towards the end that something weird may come up but it didnt .it was honest
I love this story!! Holy cow- Usually these AH stories are so negative and show the worst in people.
Probably the first and ever Hitchcock Presents episode with a heartwarming ending
Although for a second I thought I was watching a Twilight Zone episode. Thinking that the old man was actually the kid and they met in the future somehow :-P
I love the one with Herbert Marshall "Little White Frock' which hints at all kinds of sinister things but ends with a delicious twist that is free of all crime.
Mumy and Howard are two of the finest child actors in history. Sometimes there's room for a sweet little story with no real point. Well-played by all. Bravo.
Billy Mummy freaks me out even when he’s not sending people to the cornfield. Darned cute though.
Simplistic, but heartwarming. I wish life could be that simple.
Lilian…being older I can assure you life rolls along as easily as you allow it to. Experience showed me.
They were both able to walk thru a door to a new life, and the door wasnt locked...............
Wow! Claude Rains! The Oscar-winning actor's career veered more into TV as he (and the Hollywood system) got older, but it's always wonderful to see a master ply his craft like he does here. Rains was 72 years old when this was produced in 1961. He worked continuously until he died about five years later. This is a wonderful story by Norm Daniels adapted for TV by Emmy-nominated Irving Elman.
Trivia: Bill Mumy, who was seven years old here and played the little boy, and John Larch, who played the desk sergeant, also worked together in the iconic Twilight Zone episode "It's a Good Life," where everyone gets "wished into the corn field," and which was produced shortly before this episode of AHP.
He reprised the role in the 90's "Twilight Zone", "It's Still A Good Life". Him had a baby girl.😄🤘🏾
I know it seems like Claude Rains won an Oscar, but he was only a 4-time nominee. His every appearance was Oscar worthy in my opinion, but sadly, ...no Golden statue for him.
Thank you for this trivia info. 😊 I had to study Alfred Hitchcock in my film class in college. He was such a genius. I remember crying when I heard of his passing. 😩
I knew I recognized him, Claude Rains! Thank you!
🎉
Billy Mumy was an adorable, wonderful actor !!!!!
He's still alive.
Right, I know he's still alive, but we just don't see him acting anymore.......
@@margaretweninger988 He would be a elderly gentleman now.
Chloe wilson yes, I know.....just a few years older than me......that's why I said he WAS adorable...... :-)
@@margaretweninger988 LOL
Can’t believe I’ve never seen this moving before. That kid was an excellent actor. This one actually hit me. The boy’s dad was like mine. I remember feeling the way he portrayed. Potent film.
People talk about Billy Mumy, a great child actor. Should also be talking about Claud Raines the 'Invisible Man' in Hitchcock movies such as 'Suspicion.' A Star and great actor! He did an excellent ep of radios 'Suspence' with Vincent Price 'The Hands of Mr. Otaman.' They were great in it and it was a great story.
Invisible man was iconic.
....don’t forget his excellent performance in Casablanca, wouldn’t be the same without him.
Claude , not Claud.
Rains worked with Hitchcock on Notorious(1946) not Suspicion. Good observations though.
Claude Rains played the father of "The Wolfman".
WOW.!! Claude Rains. What a great actor.
I loved this story Billy Mumy and the Great Actor Claud Raines They were great together. Such a story. 🤗
One of the sweetest, loveliest, beautiful episode ever ❤️
This is the way life should be. And if we wish it long enough....who knows.
I love these stories from my youth ❤️ even my father use to watch them with my siblings. Those were the good old days 😢
If that is Claude Rains real hair, I'm impressed.
Billy Mumy is one of the all time top 'natural' child actors. He might be my favorite.
He kinda looks like 'Opie',
Ron Howard.
That little boy played Billy in a Twilight Zone episode where all the adults were afraid of him
I remember that. He could read their minds, scary.
Yes, one of the most memorable episodes.
And one of the police officers played his dad!😀
The desk Sargent played his dad in the TZ episode.
@@janupczak1643 oh wowww 😃 whoa thanks how cool is THAT
Billy Mumy was obviously extremely intelligent.
Fantastical! Bill mumy steals the show every time. ❤
they way they talk very elegant
What a beautiful and wholesome story. marvelously written and acted. The way it used to be! Thank you
The police officer was played by John Larch. He played Billy Mumy's father in that classic 'Twilight Zone' episode where Billy's character (Anthony) would 'wish into the cornfield' anyone he didn't like. It's a shame we can't send him to Mar-a-lago.
@@michaelheintzelman1903 Thank you for the insight.
Ah, yes. The old days. When you could dump your kid off at the police station to escape your parental responsibilities and an old, caring millionaire could take him home, so they could both start a new life. Heartwarming. 😅 Just kidding. 😂 This really was a sweet episode, though. 🥰
I mean, you can still drop your kid off at the police station lmao
What a beautiful story.
This has to be one of my favorites. Brings back old memories of the police I once knew. You had access there was no bullet proof glass to peer through. They were truly peacekeeps and not law enforcers. They kept the peace . What a shame, those days are gone forever. I have always respected the police but there is not that bond that existed before where I grew up. So impersonal and act more like military instead of police on foot patrol. Imagine if Child Protective Services came they would place the boy in a home with high risk abuse. This old man could now be a grandfather to this child. What a beautiful ending thanks to this policeman.
I know what you mean. I remember that too.Our police is so militarized that we are afraid of them instead of trusting them to help and protect us. What are we coming to?
The police are no longer in the business of protecting the community and its people from criminals and thieves, they are in the business of protecting predacious-criminal-elites from the people.
Do not agree with you about the police. I back the blue. We need them
OMG look at Billy Mummy!!! My heart just melted. So cute.
Claude Raines and that kid were fantastic. I was shocked at the incredible timing of the little boy as he talked and rolled the hard candy back and forth in his mouth, lol.
Man, I’m still crying. It started, when I first, realized what was going to happen, and I just can’t seem, to be able to stop😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢I just❤️happy endings.
Ma'am, you seriously---SERIOUSLY!---need to take lessons in punctuation usage!
@@jb6712 Might, be the; wine talking.
Never seen this one
What a treat, 👍
Thank you 😊
One of the best ones I've ever seen. Claude Raines and Will Mumy---never would have thought to put those two together, but it worked, and very well.
Jb: Hitchcock can direct anybody ‼️👍👍
this was just great! i remember the police guy, kid and, of course, Claude Raines. was there really more tv with ‘heart’ or is it just me. even the three motorcycle kids were just normal kids. thanks for these Hitchcock shows, even if they are edited 🙃🌷
I love happy endings!
That was a beautiful twist!
Excellent acting by all three.
Billy Mumy was the busiest kid actor in the ‘60s.
Around 1967, he joined my junior high school.
I thought Billy would wish the old man into the cornfield 😉
Lol 😂
‘We’re you lost from’.......’Lost in Space’.
🤭
Those were the 'good ole days.' For sure.
I don't want to be a downer (because I LOVE Hitchcock AND Billy Mumy), but - because of the times we live in now, I could not help but think - OMG can you IMAGINE this happening today - the cop sends off an 8-year-old boy with a strange old man in a cab and says "we'll work out the legal stuff later."
Yup. I know what you mean. A different time back then.
I thought the exact same way, and said, “whelp, that’s one too many edibles for me tonight.”
Then, read your comment & realised I wasn’t paranoid after all.

Heartless people, teach or tell or show this movie to someone or your kids that should be grateful that they did not have to say " Do you want me ?" to a stranger ... it's a heartbreaking . A child must not be in that position. Godspeed all kids like in his position.
This one warmed my heart, thanks for it!👍👍👍👍
Cute lil Billy..,..🎈♥️Great ending! I feel like crying...
Heart warming.
Don't upset Anthony !It's a GOOD life !!
Thanks for presenting some of Hitchcock's programs. Brings back memories.
That was a cute one, Billy mum was a great little actor
Maybe the title means a key to their life and memories.
That was lovely.
Will Robinson!

@AMT Will Mumy (not 'Mummy").
@@jb6712 William Mumy AKA "Bill Mumy."🤓
He was also good in 'Bang, You're Dead'.
The boy is Billy Mumy before Lost in Space. Very young and already talented.
"Leonard, I think this might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship!"... well somebody had to say it : )
Saw this as a kid brought a tear , 60 some yrs later still got to me ,Like the COMBAT ! episode about the Little Carousel "
The cop said everyone knew of the man's character so it was a happy chance he sent the boy off with him😀❤️🤗
Good show but too many commercials.
Liked this ending, not expected, went from lost to a family
Something I just figured out is that these aren’t the full episodes. The full episodes are about 25 mins long.
You JUST now figured that out?
@@poorthing no thanks to you 😊
@@bullwinklemoose4969 ha.....you can watch full episodes on Peacock, streaming service. Or did you figure that out too? Ha ....
This kind of thing happened to me about 55 years ago lol My mum was taking me to my granny’s house about 90 minutes away from where we lived. About half way there, she stopped for gas, I was a great traveller, asleep (almost before the car left the drive) in the back seat. When the car stopped, I came to, and got out to use the washroom. This will tell me age, but it was UNLOCKED lol, on the outside of the building!! I came out in time to see her driving away. The attendant said “not to worry, she’d be back once she realized I wasn’t in the back seat”. I kinda looked dubiously at him thinking “I sure hope so!” Lol The ONLY thing that alerted her (before she’d got all the way to my grandmother’s) to my not being in the car, was I hadn’t fully closed the door on the car, and it was rattling as she drove. She turned around to tell me to shut the door, and I can only imagine the scare, when she saw I wasn’t there. Today, she’d be investigated for child neglect, and I might not have even been there when she came roaring back to collect me. Lol the look on her face!
Great episode ,such a short ones ,black and white BUT what quality of acting, editing ,stories ...
put shame to some full length movies !!!love these series ! Great HITCHCOCK !!
A wonderful episode ~ and beautiful clarity in your upload. Thank you!
Thus Hitchcock’s classic Notorious and TV land’s Lost in Space are linked forever in eternity. Love how in the final scene, Detective Arbogast, who met a grim end in Hitchcock’s Psycho, strolls into the station. Hitchcock having lots of fun here
What a wonderful episode. My eyes were leaking. Gotta make an appointment with my doctor to see why that keeps happening. 😜
He was a real sweetheart, lol
"I'm shocked, SHOCKED to see you run gambling here " ‼️‼️
The wonderful Claude 💯💯💯
the boy looks like he inspired the MAD comics mascot
Last seconds at 13:40 Alfred sitting at the desk asleep with a wig on!! At first I posted how strange for someone to not move then I paused and enlarged the picture, fairly certain that’s Hitchcock!!
No, not Hitchcock.
Claude Reins playing a old man who lost his memory.Brilliant
I have not seen this show in years and forgot how awesome it was.. now i want to watch all the reruns.
It's a wonderful story which fills your heart with Hope and Love
Great episode nice ending yet would never happened today.
Quite no-one like Alfred Hitchcock ❤❤❤❤
Ah Billy, pre Fish Heads era, haha! Seriously though, what a room full of talent here.
In the ‘80s, these shows came back on tv and I remember this one.
Nothing stays the same. Good movie thanks
Sweetest episode ever!!!
Wow. You'd never get away with that in these times! Old man just takes the young boy home with him and no one says anything.
It's certainly off-putting to watch that in today's times, isn't it? I keep trying to tell myself that those were more innocent days/etc., but was there really a time when such a thing could occur without at least a LITTLE more investigation? lol.
I was creeped out when the man put his hands on the boy almost immediately and again, had to remind myself that it wasn't uncommon at all in those days to show basic affection. Still...
@@jonas3333 It's not uncommon now to show affection. It's people like you who twist everything into some perverted priest fantasy.
Billy Mummy!! Great child actor…..
Claude Rains is delightful with kids!!!!
this is Hitchcock-Lite no murder no poison no psychos filmed in 1 room with chewing gum and soda pop as props
I do believe the desk sergeant and the kid played father and son (respectively) in The (original) Twilight Zone episode "It's a Good Life." Watch them both play off none other than Claude Rains.
I want to see the whole show of this one! Never had a Hitchcock make me cry!
Danger Will Robinson !
Very best episode ever!! TFS! 🌈🌈🌈
🥺 tragedy on both sides. Every child needs a good father and mother. What a lovely episode
The title is misleading but I enjoyed this short drama🤗
I took it to be a metaphor- both the boy and the man (the doors) are missing a vital component in their lives (a key/loved ones).
The title was misleading? 🤦
Agree Simba girl, it's misleading.🤔
This was interesting but the title didn't quite fit the story unless there is a big chunk of this story missing, otherwise I really liked it.
Billy Mumy had a year earlier starred with John Larch (the cop) as his son in that creepy Twilight Zone episode, "It's a Wonderful Life" about a boy with magical powers who wasn't very nice--he had a habit of turning people he didn't like into jack in the box clowns with their heads bouncing on a spring. I fully expected Billy at any moment to point a finger threateningly at Larch and say, "You're a bad man. You're a very bad man." And Claude Raines to say, "Wish it out into the cornfield, Billy."
Too many commercials!!!
There once was a time when that actually happened...in a land far far away😊
Well written and performed.
All of a sudden all these ads. What happened?
@AMT Thank you!

I agree not today's world would this happen.
WOW, that Billy Mumy was one busy little child actor. I am a fan, but never knew that he was also on at least 1 episode of Alfred Hitchcock.
Good one! Thanks
A 13 minute clip and at least 6 ads. Hmmm...
Who knew it was that easy to adopt? 😂
I remember this episode. Claude Rains adopts the little boy.
Claude Raines is fantastic in this! ♥️
