A millionaire proposes to an engaged woman offering his entire fortune after his death, when she refuses, she is talked into it by her partner. It doesn't pan out the way any of them expected.
Season 6 "The Pearl Necklace" Directed By Don Weis
Howard Rutherford is a very rich, elderly gentleman. Out of the blue, he proposes to his young secretary, Charlotte Jameson. He tells her that he is not in good health and that she will inherit his entire $11 million fortune. Charlotte initially dismisses the idea but her fiancé, Mark Lansing, thinks that a one year delay is very little to pay given the size of Charlotte's potential inheritance. Charlotte eventually marries Howard, who turns out to be in far better health than he let on. Every year on their wedding anniversary Howard gives her a beautiful pearl to add to her ever-growing collection. When Howard finally dies on their 25th wedding anniversary, Charlotte plans on re-marrying but it's not Mark that she has in mind.

"He's 65 with one foot in the grave!! " I'm 65...I better watch out 😃
Isn’t funny when back in the days when we were kids 65 meant ladies were suppose to dress up like Eleanor Roosevelt with black orthopedic shoes. Today 65 has a new look to it. Thank goodness.
@@bennyrodriguez1244 I remember those shoes were called granny shoes!
I thought the guy was mid seventies easily
If your savings account is as healthy...😃...anyway, be careful, you never know 😉
Lol
Money may not buy happiness but it sure ease's the pain...
An apostrophe wasn't necessary, for the word "ease."
@@melanier7309 Yes dear. I'm sorry.
Better to cry in luxury than poverty. 👍🇬🇧
I'll drink to that!
It can totally buy happiness, and even love sometimes - but it’s definitely not a guarantee - How do you spend that money and who you choose to be makes all the difference.
Lol. 65 years old - That’s not old today.
He looks 85
If you're 25 it's old...today.
Update: After rewatching this I admit, the way he said "65 years old with 1 foot in the grave" was a bit outrageous by today's standards! 85 is today's equivalent.
I was thinking the same thing 😂😏
I'm 55 and some people have thought I was 19
Loren Janes was still doing his exercises at 69.
A young Jack Cassidy. Can you see David Cassidy in his face?
Yes 👍
Love how the story ended. What a brilliant woman she was.
She really did grow to love him after all those years together, and made him happy... and then that twist at the end...sweet and satisfying!!!
So many people talk about love when they really mean sexual attraction. Loving a PERSON, not just their looks and genitals is much more than what is considered "love" by many. No matter how perfect the relationship, one day the sex will not be the main focus anymore and if you don't have things in common, respect for each other and a positive outlook it will not work or you'll spend the rest of your life with someone feeling like you're in hell.
Amen! Been married to the same fellow almost 42 years now and it’s like a fine wine! Better with age! Yes there’s been ups and downs but worth it!!
Preach! Totally awesome comment 💜👍👏👏👏👏👏💜
Yep. Unfortunately most people marry or get with people for the wrong reasons.
Today I think that most new couples burn through their sexual phase even before their married.
Omg you're so right. I've been 6 going on 7mnths out of a relationship that I was in that I couldn't stand as matter of fact coz we had none of that you said.
7:42 "Anyone who thinks money can't buy happiness, isn't shopping in the right stores" - Mrs Howell (Gilligan's Island)
One of my favorite AH episodes!❤ She was always kind to her husband, and appeared to grow to sincerely care for him.
It's kind of a refreshing change from the usual noir cliche of the scheming heartless gold digger. I like THOSE stories too, but this is more complex and nuanced.
🪁You’re sweet.
He’s 65 yrs old with one foot in the grave ,,,,,,,,I’m 72 and feel 40,,,,,,,,
Mayb he would feel 40 also but if he knows as he said he only had 1 yr to live he must b unhealthy and very sick
Liz Moore he looks 85!?
Right I’m 27 and was thinking the same thing like no way
Liz Moore my father is 80 and still races cars, motorcycles, and boats. Not to mention he has 3 girlfriends, none of which know about any of the others. Hahahaha!!!
Hahahaha.... I know what you mean, I am 75, and also feel 40....😂 But the girl said she was 30,!!!,!.... she looks 50....
Hahaha- damn! That’s some ending- she’s finally going to relive what she missed in youth.
If you've watched all she and her husband actually raised Billy.
Oh wow what a great ending
Explain the ending. Why did he call Mark "dad"? Or was he just kidding him? It seems this feature was chopped up and edited. I'll have to find the full episode.

You dont have to watch entire episode to understand the wild ending
Look at it once again u will see that she married the son of her ex boyfreind mark who was 25 yrs old
The samw age she was when mark talked her in to marring the rick old guy
But she xaught mark with another woman while he was suppose to b in live with her
So she got her revenge narring mark son who was 25 yrs her junior just like she was 25 when mark talked ger in to marrying the older guy

The ending spoiled the while thing. I enjoyed the show up until that point.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Serves him right, pressured into marrying her boss, had a side chick while pretending to be lonely without her. Then thinks he’s entitled to some of the payoff
Ikr? Cheating money grubbing ishhead
Awesome. One of the best episodes I've seen. Great plot twists. When you think about it, she made a great decision. Her life turned out to be much more delicious. She didn't live a poor life, and she married a young guy in the end so she also enjoyed that in her later years. Otherwise, she would have been poor all her life and had an old cheating husband in those later years. Everything counts in the video game of life.
I'm either a little too deerp into this indica tonight or you just really blew my mind there with the last sentence, my Dude
Oh that was a FINE twist...very Alfred Hitchcock of him!
I can pick my jaw back up from the floor now what a great episode.
I loved this episode! It was so cringy and creepy! I'm going to watch the full episode on Hulu!
@@4knewt505 .. What was cringy & creepy about this episode of The Pearl Necklace ? January 27, 2020
@@sheiladavis6523 at first when the old man started to touch her with he put the necklace on her, then when she loved the fiance after she married the old man and he had another woman, those were cringy moments. Thank you so much for uploading this and providing it for free. I can remember my Grandma telling me about this episode when we were discussing how much we loved “Rebecca” the novel and the Hitchcock movie. She told me about this episode, but for some reason I thought she said it was a Twilight Zone episode. Anyway, the memory came back to me while re-watching “Rebecca,” and a few Google searches later, I was here. This is so fascinating to watch, and you’ve given me the chance to experience something my late and much-beloved Grandma told me about. Thank you.
In any situation, you marry for money, expect to earn every cent!
The pure unadulterated honest truth!!!!I watched my Grandmother live that life
@@bringthepayne7561 as you watched your grandmother live that life did you learn something from your grandmother living that type of life ? January 27, 2020
Lmao
How sadly cynical and morbid.
Now, that's the truth! 🙄
Dresses were so glamorous in those days.
It would have been a shock that his 1 year of living turns into 25 had that not been given away in the title. Nonetheless the shock ending makes up for it! Very fun episode.
She got engaged to her ex fiance's son... Thats so messed up 🤣
"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." She emptied the old man's pockets and ditched the cheat in the process. Came out smelling like a rose. Be careful what you wish for...lol! Good episode.
She really didn’t empty his pockets, she was marrying him for as long as he lived. He didn’t expect to live for more than a year, but he didn’t say marry me for a year, he wanted her to be his wife until he died. As his widow she was entitled to his fortune
She wasn't in love with him but he loved her and treated her rather well. She did grow to care for him so she did all right.
@@rachelgarber1423 Oh, I have to disagree with you that "He didn't expect to live for more than a year." He knew very good and well that he was not going to die.... not for a long time! It was a very clever ruse on his part and perhaps, not uncommon.
@@MichelleSmith-ky8lz I know I must sound cynical but do you really think he loved her? He tricked her into marrying him! I would say, he had "lust" for her rather than love. (the hand on the leg made his intentions, very clear) You could hear him maniacally snarl each time he took another year away from her.
Can it be "love" when it's purely selfish? He bought her for 11 million dollars as he was depending on her greed to accept. Her greed cost her not one year of her life, but 25! But, she found her "lust" in the end. Again, not love as she "bought" the boy!
@@ThePianoMan1953 No I don't think he loved her at first at all. He saw something he wanted and he got it. But just as he didn't truely love her at first i think they grew in like and then love. All love is not passionate love. It is love that is slow burning and stable. Once she saw the man she thought she was in love with was a jerk, it freed her heart to be open to her "husband". In the end yes she did all right with the old man in the end. They boy that was purely revenge.
Sweet revenge at the end😅🤣
And I think she grew to care for the old guy too
Great ending! Sweet revenge...🤭

Well, she aged well.

Human nature includes greed to some degree?
SHE WAS GOOD TO THE OLD MAN...I LIKED SHARLOT....SMH
Considering the time this was made I really do appreciate the end 🤣
Interesting how a number of the commenters see themselves in the characters presented here, but it's very subtle and they don't notice. The lighting, the sets, the casting...As usual, Hitch's cinematography is very good.
"Indecent Proposal" no doubt "borrowed" this story.
Jack Cassidy always plays smooth villains.
Jack was born cool.
@@RADIUMGLASS, I watched an interview with Shirley Jones in which she said he was the love of her life -- even after years of marriage with her second husband, Marty.

Whoa. If you love me, you'll marry this old man
65 was considered old? My mother will be 90 this year. 65 is not old.
65 IS old. Just because people live longer doesn't change the fact that 6.5 decades is old. Not as old as 9 decades but way older than 3.
back then life expectancy was shorter. Life was physically harder. Many people did not have enough food and water at different times in their life. Medicine not advanced. So, became much older much faster.
M K 65 is older than 30, but it's not old. Although I have seen some 55 year olds that looked in their 70s.
wait til you are 65 and find out how old you feel
Larry DuVall Are you 65 or older? Do you feel old?
OMG this was so scandalous! That fiance was such a jerk and greedy! The old man was creepy but she was so stupid! This was a good story!
How was she stupid? She had a husband who doted on her, and ended up rich.
@@jmarie9997 I don't know what I meant initially watching this a year ago. This is actually my absolute favorite favorite episode. Maybe I was thinking about the way she trusted the fiance and she should've known he wasn't being faithful. And when I say the old man was creepy I was laughing at the scene when he put his hand on her knee in the beginning and when he gave her the first pearl. His intentions was evident from the beginning but he turned out to be a great choice for her. I love this episode! Ok, gonna watch again even though I'm at work 🤣
Live well and still get some revenge 😉 what a great episode
Didn't see that coming, didn't quite get the son? But overall it was classic Hitchcock
From what I think... It's somewhat a pay back thing... Her ex partner had a kid to which she ends up marrying...I bet she said to him she ain't got long left ends up to 25yrs or so.. And it continues.. Probably happened to the old guy in the beginning too
