Thank you Lee for another great video!! I found your channel back in June when I was diagnosed with stage 3 laryngeal cancer and learned a lot from your video's, all done with chemo and radiation blasts, have a PEG tube now but keep losing weight, I'll try some smoothies with strawberries and real ice cream 😅
Keep the video's coming! Eating is the most important thing to do ,even tho it tastes terrible, hopefully my taste bud's come back along with saliva glands, tired of constant dry mouth.
    God bless you Lee 🙏

      Hi Carol,
Thank you for the kind words. I love hearing that someone has gotten something out of the videos. I would definitely recommend the smoothies etc and also to run the smoothies through the stomach tube with full cream or double cream milk. Thin them out quite a bit with some water to get them down the tube easier. Also check with your oncologist to see if they recommend a high calorie protein drink or powder to mix in? But definitely eat "normally" when you can to get everything back to working gorder!

Thanks, Lee. Great video. I am opposite in your journey. I am 4 months out from treatment and weaning down on the tube feeds. I find many foods taste blan, I could not eat citrus at first, I still can't take hot beverages. The lack of saliva is a joykill for me. Limits me to moist and soft. I am working on getting healthy foods in. I lost a few going back to work, but have maintained the past few weeks.

      Hi Susan,
Yeah, the bland food thing may last a bit. i know mine did. But keep going, you will feel the taste buds starting to come back. Keep the healthy stuff going in and a bit of walking/exercise to keep the bllod flowing!
      Lee
BTW - If you area tea or coffee drinker, try starting off with thee drink at just barely warm and build up to a nice hot bev!

It really took me about 4-6 months before I felt like taste buds were getting back to normal. My saliva came back about 50-60%. by about 8 months or so.

      Hi John,
My neck is a bit stiff. I have normal movement turning my head to the left, but turning to the right is down to 50 degrees or so. I seem to remember that for about a year after treatment I went to my ENT with a sore throat/ear ache a couple of times, but it went away. MY ENT did say that the pain was more than likely caused by the scarring that occurs due to the radiation, but should get better over time. I'm glad to say it did. As of now, no pain, just the dry mouth and about 80% taste.

Same here, coming up on almost 6 months post treatment. have this phantom discomfort that comes on around the lymph node they radiated during treatment. they have told me that this is likely scar tissue and also tissue swelling under the surface (not so much that you can see it) that will come and go.

      Hi Sean,
At the 3 week post treatment, I felt the absolute worst I had felt during the whole time. I want to say that I went to work with a trainer at the gym at about 8 weeks, post treatment, but with a lot of restrictions. At 30 days, I would recommend just short walks and buildup as you feel you can. Don't over do it.

@@theregularguy141 5 weeks of radiation and once a week chemo. They did some type of DNA testing that showed I could do a lower treatment of radiation and chemo. Also one less week of regular treatment.
I got very lucky since the growth was in my throat blocking food. It was not internal. I was able to keep eating but it was hard. Nothing tasted good. I lived on boost and dinty moore. I know I was very lucky.
I wonder how the actor Stanely Tucci who was stage 4 can eat all that Italian food and not look like he is washing it down like I have to do with my food.
The original doctor I went to who removed most of the tumor wanted to open up my neck and remove 20 lymph nods on both sides of my neck. That is when I went to Dana Farber. Thank god I live near Boston.

Yes I can! I was able to eat small pieces by mid-November 2021(treatment ended Sept 08, 2021) It was a slow process for me, but everyone responds differently. I still eat smaller pieces and chew a lot more as my swallowing is still restricted a small bit.
