Just an update on my husband, he is down to 9 radiations and 2 chemo left, so far hasn’t been awful, some throat pain, lack of taste, not able to eat solid foods but able to get in some protein shakes and the ones I make for him. Some days he feels great and other days can barely function. He has lost about 20 lbs so far, still drives himself to appointments after 5 weeks in the middle of winter in VT. We are very ready for the healing process to begin, this is awful to watch your loved one go through but even worse for them. I’m very thankful for the great support from family and friends

      Hi Tina,
Thank you for the update! Your husband is a rock star. At 5 weeks, I'm pretty sure I was not driving anywhere. I may even have done my hospital stint at 5 weeks? Nothing like a bit of stubborness to get one sent off to the hospital... It sounds like you guys have it all working as well as can be expected for now. Keep us updated on your progress!

Hi Tina, my husband will be three weeks post treatment tomorrow and is still in really rough shape. His mouth still is awful and he still has terrible phlegm. Is your husband feeling better? When did he see improvements?

@@hylah16 yes he is! But he is still having a hard time with food, he did better for about 6 weeks and then it changed, he can take a few bites but then he’s done, he meets the ENT on Tuesday so we will see what he says, also his 3 month scan was clean. I will also add, be prepared for the changes in his personality, cancer changes everything and everyone one way or the other, my husband is not nearly the same but I love him still!

@@theregularguy141 Bile duct new and colon relapse from 8 years ago ...two primaries. So far I've been very fortunate. Ten hour surgery for bile duct, clear margins, no lymph node invasion. First rad treatment today for 15 mm module on lung...stage 4 colon. If they had not expedited me to surgery in two weeks I would be gone. Doctors like my progress and there's a very good chance moving forward that this could all be controlled. I am not saying the system is not frustrating at times but they don't mess around when you are really ill. Sure you might wait a while for a knee replacement but not when it's life threatening. You guys have been duped about our system being a complete failure. I have my suspicions why that might be.

Thank goodness here in the UK cost isn’t something you have to worry about at this stressful time, everything is covered by the NHS including all the supplement drinks. I can’t imagine having to deal with the stress of health insurance while going through the cancer treatments.

That's terrible, it's all covered by medicare here in Australia, free. I've just started week 6 and still eating soft food with the fast oxy and lidocaine. I'm on IMRT 70 gray just like you, seems to be an international standard IMO. I hope this works out for you with the insurance, this is so terrible to hear you have to go through all of this. Here's the thing. There are two phases of cancer; before your diagnosis and after. They are never the same. As you move from one to the other, you learn a lot about stuff you never wanted to.

I’m still waiting for the ok from my Insurance for my pet scans due the 1st week of Feb. I’m going to call this week but I also just had the NavDx blood test that’s supposed to be 99% accurate for any HPV left in your system after treatment. Is this a test you’ve heard of? I believe my Dr said I would get tested every 4 months for the 1st year but he did order the pet scan.
I’m still loving the dry mouth and lack of taste but at least I can eat again. One day at a time. You take care and good luck.

I've been getting a regular exam through the ENT every 6 months with no issues. The Oncologist wants a PET/CT annually for at least 3 years... So, I guess I get to do an annual insurance battle? LOL... Now, that NAVDx sounds interesting! I'll be checking on that as well. Great info, thanks!

I’m in the same boat with a pet scan for the next few years also. I trust the pet more, it’s going to pickup anything different that’s not just HPV related. Let’s just hope that never happens. The wife called again today and I’m still waiting on my insurance approval. Funny because the Dr already has me down for the 3rd for the follow up on the pet…

Most of it! It was patchy and scraggly for quite a while. Even now, the left side of my neck is baby smooth as that's where the majority of the radiation was focused. Basically growing any facial hair below the jaw line is an exercise in futility for me.
