Ronaldo lives in fear that he will not be regarded as the GOAT and Messi will. He wasn’t being played and that means his records could be overtaken. That’s why he wants out and has created this situation to force it. Call it competitiveness, call it vanity. That is what is driving this. You either admire the drive or hate the egoism. For me, his lack of self awareness is that it is his performance dwindling that has caused the lack of playing time, not an agenda against him. All heroes fade out.

Some of that is due to Messi’s position and the structure built around him at PSG, (Mbappe and Neymar for one) but Ronaldo hasn’t played well when he’s had the chance. I agree with Simon as to the interview being more of a speech with Piers Morgan spoon feeding Ronaldo easy questions with no critical insight or follow up. It’s easy to side with Ronaldo on a lot of issues, but the timing of this interview has to be questioned and an appropriate amount of responsibility put on Cristiano himself for creating his own drama. I can separate my love and empathy for the player with the need for professional behavior. Ronaldo knew where he was coming when he agreed to come to MU, any complaints about infrastructure etc. would have been seen before he signed a contract.

The only part of that interview that I felt for him was the tragedy in his life, that was so sad and anyone no matter who they are deserves time and support. I do question who it was that didn't believe him about his daughter given he didn't name names, he called out other ex-players and even not naming his current team mates who he thinks are professional, so why not name the individual at the top of Man Utds hierarchy, probably because he would be sued for defamation, because without proof you can't accuse someone. Also can you imagine if someone did sit down with Piers Morgan from the club do you think they would be given the same easy, no hard question, soft interview from Morgan, what a hypocrite that man is!. Well done Simon Jordan you put Morgan in his place, again Morgan's asking if Ronaldo has more millions in money or followers that's just what the people, the fans want to hear, to all of us who are struggling to live at the moment, its okay for Morgan he's rich, mind you he did make money off the back of making up a story about the British Armed Forces and put the Armed Forces in harms way after the made up story, how is that man allowed to even allowed on TV or Radio.

Ronaldo made a poor decision by not accepting any offer from any other club. The salary was probaly the stumbling block, had he accepted to play for a nominal wage and perhaps 300,000 per goal he could have gone to any club in Champions league, for example, Sevilla, Athletico Madrid, Napoli, Milan, Marsella etc. They would all have taken him, but he wanted the salary he was having at Man Utd. and that meant only a few clubs could afford that and they didn't need him. The two short statements from MU so far are just right. I think ETH could or should refute CR"s claims - in his direct Dutch fashion it will be clear who is to be believed. MU should maybe go with the line that 'Due to an accumulation of events it is in the best interest primarily of MUFC under ETH that Cristiano's time at MU as a player must come to an end. We hope he can continue to add to his unquestionable success as an individual at a club where he can be happy and we wish him and his family all the best in the future.' ((that would kinda say hey WTF - we supported you privately, expose his selfishness, don't speak out about employees and also suggest that it's him who hasn't been happy - IF THATS THE CASE?)
I don't see why MU should come out denying, confirming or setting anything straight.. that's what he wants. I think MU should be dignified which will further expose CR's motives. This is what was clever about the interview - he didn't confirm or present facts he used words that were vague and suggestive. It was a cleverly mapped out interview. Only ETH can come out - he was the one personally attacked/highlighted - which is great for everyone at MU because ETH can set some records straight.

He will in time possibly feel some guilt and very likely will feel angry or defensive at the numerous criticisms that are coming out from former teammates, pundits and every man and his dog on social media. The way to sort out your demons is to look within your own mind …not easy and realise that one projects onto others what one can’t bear to see in themselves. It seems that Ronaldo can’t bear to admit his career is nearing an nd, that he isn’t so good anymore and of course living at the top for so long, no doubt that is hard to face. He then feels when ETH doesn’t play him, he feels ETH feels he’s useless and he can’t stand that idea which underneath it he feels himself. This isn’t unique to Ronaldo, but sadly for him it is out in the public and so just magnifies the inevitable problems…so I really hope he can go deeper to sort out the demons and cut them off at source.

The real reason all this has happened is really quite simple. Ten Hag comes to United and wants to rebuild the club in his way. He 1.) never wanted Ronaldo from start but 2.) couldn't come out and say that because the fans would've accused him for overstepping 3.) didn't want to gamble his results on Ronaldo who doesn't fit his system, which would've probably put his job in jeopardy, and 4.) needed to get rid of him and provoked him until Ronaldo fell for it.
Ronaldo is a lot of things, but strategic is not one of them. Notice how many times Ronaldo mentions "strategic" in the interviews. Leave it to a tactician like Ten Hag to know how to play mind games. I don't blame Ten Hag for doing it. You get this opportunity in football sometimes once, and he wasn't going to lose it to an aging superstar who doesn't fit his system.
