- Card scrapers are super handy to have in the shop, but they get so hot that they can burn your thumbs! Adding a refrigerator magnet to the back completely eliminates this by acting as a heat sink.

What??? Burnt Thumbs are my favorite part of the BBQ!
Hannibal approves this comment.
Look at those shavings! Proof that your sharpening method works pretty darn good. Nice share with that magnet!
Thanks for a great video. As always.
My favorite way, however, to cool down tools is to take a break. It never fails.
Good idea. Small point - the magnet acts as insulation. If it were a heat sink, it would get hot to keep the scraper cool. Either way, it keeps your thumbs cooler, and that's good.
Dude you're on a roll lately! Well done 👍
Sharing is caring! Cheers.
Thank you that's a brilliant tip, fantastic
So simple , so effective !
THANKS FOR SHARING
Great tip. Thanks.
Thanks!!
I've been wrapping my thumbtips in masking tape.
This fridge magnet trick is way better!
I have curved scraper that I got for Xmas. Can you do a tutorial on sharpening and using it?
I like this idea. But if you are using the scraper a lot then "Pask makes" has a good video called "making a card scraper and holder" to deal with this problem. It also holds the scraper in an adjustable curve.
Took some scrolling, as it is only 5 years old (great channel as well!) 😉 - czcams.com/video/guRM-hqoiQY/video.html
I must be a WORTHLESS woodworker... I haven't used a scraper enough for it to get "hot." LOL! I do have limited feeling in my hands though, and I just don't use one that much.
Awesome tip though! I might try something similar on another task that has nothing to do with woodworking.
I use a Skaeson scrapper. It has a handle, what a novel idea.
It's a pretty good idea indeed! Thanks, dude! 😃
Depending on how much you're going to use it though (for a whole table top, for example), perhaps you should make a holder for it. A piece of scrap wood and 3 bolts and you're done.
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
What’s this blasphemy you speak of? A holder?
@@terristroh3965 Yeap. Just search it out. 😊
Wow, who knew? Thanks!
Wish I had heard this a few months ago. I bought a veritas holder(not cheap). It does however help with the arthritis in my thumbs nd hands. I ill be giving this method a go. Thanks for sharing.
Ditto! Arthritis really “spoils “ the process. I found the Veritas holder helped make it more enjoyable.
See you guys on the next one!
@@paulschraith2578 it spoils the fun, taking away the pleasure too.
New nightmare unlocked
That's genius.
Since heat is a major factor in causing a scraper to get dull you may be better off having all four edges sharp and turning the scraper every few strokes.
cool
Why does no one do tutorials on sharpening card scrapers with curves?
A couple of strips of blue painters tape across the middle of the scraper would probably to the same thing.🙂🙂
🤔🤔🤔🤔
Interesting!
The should make things that go over your hands to protect them. Maybe call them…. Gloves. 😂😂😂
I saved my weak thumbs by getting a Bahco pull scraper. Just saying in case anyone else has similar problems.
I prefer to sharpen opposite sides and flip the scraper every few scrapes. Keeps the edges cool so the steel doesn't lose its temper from heat build up
Uh..... maybe put the magnet IN the fridge first? 😉
