I am keto and OMAD (one meal a day). In addition I do a one day fast (skipping one day's meal) a little more than once a week and a three day fast once a month. I've been doing it for a little less than a year. I must say the cumulative effect of this has been truly profound. My energy level is dramatically improved. My mind is clearer. Whereas a year ago a host of problems made it such that if I walked two blocks to go to the store, I would suffer days of pain in recovery (bursitis and old knee injuries). Now I can walk all over the place, every day, without issue. Serious acid reflux to the point where I would sometimes be awoken in the middle of the night choking on my own vomit, completely gone. Perpetual hemorrhoids and blood in my stool, gone. Nerve damage symptoms, reduced 80%. Major acne skin rash, 100% gone. In addition I have lost half the excess of waist measurement (from a reduction of visceral fat), and fully expect I will be at an optimum waist to height ratio within another year.

I have done many fast but never knew how important autophogy is. My whole life is changed because of this video. I never knew a health video can change my entire life. You now made me see why my mother was such a knock out model built until her old years. She was literary in atophogy every day of her life. She never ate before 1 pm and when she ate her first meal, it was black coffee and an egg. She worked on an empty stomach and worked slowly for hours. My mother never made us breakfast. Our breakfast was at 1 pm and we were all very fit. We only ate breakfast early on a Saturday if we were going on a family trip, like to the museum. My mother was a genuis at health care and I wish I never stopped following her lessons on eating. My stepfather also didn't eat until 1 pm. They never ate after 8 pm, unless they had their first meal around 5 pm cause they had a super busy day. I am now living like my ancestors. I will not be eating now before 1 pm anymore. I will be doing my work slowly so not to burn my protein from day before and don't burn out during fasting time. Today I am going until 3 pm in my fast to make sure that I am in autophagy.

I LOVE reading about everyone's good experiences with autophagy and low carb/high fat eating. I am a 73 year old woman. I have been eating REALLY low carb since June, 2022 and have lost 40 pounds. But now I'm stuck. Recently, because of your excellent videos, I have dropped two meals a day and eat only one. BUT, I have a real problem knowing just how much to eat and what types of food. I had been eating primarily meat and fat (hard boiled eggs, bacon, fatty cuts of beef, etc.) but I have remained stalled for almost 3 months. I sleep 8 - 10 hours every night; I fast for about 18 - 20 hours a day; I now walk for over 250 hours each week. I also started adding leafy greens to my food regimen but that seems to have made no difference at all. I've been told that when my weight loss is stalled, it's probably because I'm eating too many carbs. Well, I have been (religiously) eating under 20g of carbs a day for a LONG time! Now I'm thinking that, at my age, I simply have to let go of my angst about losing weight and take delight in the advances I HAVE made. My skin has become amazingly "young." My sleep has gone from 4-5 hours a night to 8 - 10 hours a night. My walking has gone from 30 minutes a day, 3 days a week, to 60-70 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week. My BP is consistently in the range of 105/68. I have more energy now than I did 8 months ago. AND, not to leave out an important piece of the puzzle, I had two pulmonary emboli in October, 2022. I was FORCED to slow down for a few months, and recover. It's only in the past two 3-4 that I have begun to walk again. So, KNOWING that I'm VERY lucky to be alive, perhaps my body REALLY is doing an amazing job at keeping me healthy! And THANKS to YOU and your amazing videos, I am learning SO much about how to grow younger every day!! The cardiologist says I will live to be 100+. I guess I ought to be able to lose that extra 20 pounds in the next 26 years!! Hahahaha!

If you couldn’t go 18 hours without calories then you are either diabetic and went into hypoglycemia or it was purely mental. With a normal adult regardless of body fat percentage anyone can easily go 18 hours without calories the hard part for most people is the mental aspect. As I’m typing this comment I am currently on 22 hours without any calories aside from water and black coffee and I’m fine aside from a few waves of hunger that come and go it is relatively easy. I have been doing OMAD on and off for the past 5 weeks. If you do have health issues you should be working with your doctor to get on some sort of fasting regiment. Best of luck!

After less than a month, the floaters is reduced by around 80%. Considered vision back to normal. That's amazing 👏 .. absolutely amazing health benefits!! Interesting that the bible mentions its benefits. Also, can't help but wonder how fascinating it is that Muslims are encouraged to fast (... fasting has been 'prescribed' for you, as it was 'prescribed' to those before you.. (Quran) .. and the choice of word is not recommended, or ideal, or should.. but the word choice is 'prescribed' ... and after watching these videos on autophagy i cannot think of a more fitting word than prescribed. And God knows best

Now I am into OMAD. A few weeks ago I was bleeding/menstruating heavily for a week. I went into panic mode coz last Dec 2017, I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer and I was bleeding then for 6months before I went to an ob gyne. All the doctors in the hospital suggested hysterectomy but I found a doctor/naturopath who treated me and told me to go into a lowcarb diet. Fast forward to this yr with the lockdown. I again ate a lot of carbs. When I began heavily bleeding again. I immediately began a lowcarb diet then having this OMAD. Lo and behold, from a very heavy bleeding, it immediately decreased and the bleeding stopped. Now, I told myself I should really get into low carb and do fasting to keep my body healthy. I believe autophagy is life saving!

I also asked the Dr. if he thought my diet and regular fasting if helping me? By the time we were done talking he said he wanted to read up on Autophagy and keep and eye on me. I love 💕 this stuff.

I started fasting in college because I just felt like I didn’t need the food - and oh man. You should have heard the way it terrified people! Everyone was like “you need to eat 3 meals a day, you’re destroying your body and your metabolism!” Now intermittent fasting is a thing. Go figure!
The moral of the story is this - become a person who listens to your body. If you don’t feel like eating - don’t eat. If fasting for a few days makes you feel fantastic - fast. If you start getting muscle cramps, middle fast fatigue, or what not - stop fasting, don’t be stubborn about it.
Moreover though, we need to stop blindly relying on conventional health ideas about health, and start taking responsibility for our own understanding of our body and the scientific literature on health.

Initially it was merely for weight loss but I think I have entered a gold mine of information about holistic wellness of human health. While humanity is suffering from prolonged over consumption, fasting appears the only way to make any possible changes in individual wellness and public health. In the long run its going to save costs and lessen sufferings from chronic diseases. Greetings from Singapore!

Dr Sten, you have inspired me, with your sensible approach to the science of healthy living. I have been a beneficiary of your knowledge. I had been on BP meds for 3 years and was given statin med due to elevated cholesterol along with NAFLD at age 63. So with your guidance and other research I did. I realized that I can fix this, without resorting to medication. I followed this guidance religiously. I went from 205 lbs to 160 lbs in 4 months. I am off BP meds and never took the statins. Today, my doctor agrees I need no meds. My cholesterol levels have returned to healthy. Cognitively, physically and spiritually I have returned to feeling like I did when I was in my 20's ??? lol
I have you to thank for this lifestyle guidance and I know share this knowledge with family and friends (when they allow me!)
