Can you explain why I have worse blood sugars after fasting? I did some extended fasting and became deficient in potassium and magnesium. I'm still having to eat bananas, avocados, coconut water and dark chocolate to compensate. But... I did this to lose weight not because I had hyperglycemia. And now, my blood sugar levels are higher than before I tried fasting. 90 - 105 in the morning, 140s after fruit (excluding berries). Thoughts??

Just yesterday I read an article on Chrome. Recently they have done a study in China. It was a month long study. Not only did most of the people lose approximately 7/8kg during that month but the interesting findings were that the intermittent fasting resulted in changes in the brain. With MRI scans they noted positive changes in the areas of the brain controlling addictions. It also changed people’s control over their appetite. Furthermore the study indicated something fascinating… it positively changed the microbiome of the gut.

I'm eating on a 16:8 fasting routine. I first tried it a couple of years ago. I soon felt a lot healthier and I lost a bit of weight. Stupidly, after 3 months I thought it'd be sensible to go back to my old eating habits, even though I often didn't feel hungry I ate at 'regular' mealtimes. I got the weight back and I didn't feel well.
Finally the penny dropped and I returned to the 16:8 pattern. I feel good now, I eat when I'm hungry and I look slimmer too because my body is re-sculpting me. I'm 77 and feel about 25 years younger. Yay!

  • @ArcaneWolf9

A year ago, I followed advice from this channel, kicked carbs and sugar. That included snacks and desserts, of course. Once that was done, and the cravings settled, going to OMAD was easy. Just made sure to focus on healthy greens, veg, fish, meat and eggs for that meal and prepare it from scratch. No more ultra processed garbage. Hunger wasn't really an issue without the carb roller coaster. I felt great and was able to go to every second day and stretch the fast several times a month. I started that year wearing 5L. Well, that's all in the trash now, and I'm wearing brand new L size. I have energy to spare, have increased exercise and am building new routines and hobbies. No one is going to convince me intermittent fasting doesn't work, and I am grateful for all the advice each week!!

yep, it's incredible the priority given sometimes to "apps" and "tracking"... those are for sure nice toys, but can be obsessive. Moreover, one first should recognize that the human body has "many brains" already, feedback systems, "algorithms" that we have still to discover, and they work in the background and well if you bring the body back in equilibrium; give the intelligence of the body a chance, it's a bio high tech, much more advanced than the current silicon stuff.

You can’t outrun a bad diet. The majority of obesity is caused by insulin resistance, which is due to the junk we eat. So, in order to reverse that, people MUST change their eating habits. There are also many people who have lost hundreds of pounds without any exercise. I’m not saying don’t exercise, but it is not nearly as important as what and when you eat in fat loss.

I started this IF back in December having watched a few of your old videos. I went from 94kg to now 78kg (I'm 1.74m so I'm targeting 72-73kg). I don't think I ever went over the 28 hour mark without eating but I kept it at one meal a day (when I eat to my heart's content). I do try to keep the food varied and I get my "sugar treats" usually from grapes and other fruit. The weight loss didn't come as a huge shock given that I reduced my alcohol intake by quite a bit along with the IF. But what was truly surprising was the increase in my mental and intellectual capacity, I used to be quite forgetful (to the point that I was starting to get properly worried) but that's all gone. I'm a lot more alert, I sleep better, and I don't feel I'm tormenting myself in any way by sticking to 1 meal a day. Many thanks for all your videos.

Calorie restriction becomes an ALL DAY EVENT that revolves around all the things I can eat and can’t eat and nonstop calculations. I did calorie restriction plus macro calculations for every meal for months. I saw no significant weight loss/health improvement and actually was pretty stressed. Calorie restriction causes you to only view food as its sum of calories and “can I fit it in my daily allowance,” not “is this nourishing for me.” That is absolutely not the case with fasting. It’s a mindset shift.

I also have SI joint issues so I am not very active so my weight loss was while sitting in my recliner!! I am OMAD and ketovore and I eat my meal around 6pm. Plenty of animal protein and plenty of animal fats with low-carb veggies, I have fried (in bacon fat and avocado oil) over 150 pounds of cabbage since October. We also eat onions, asparagus, and legumes along with salads. My husband is much more active and has lost 120 pounds and also lost his meds going from A1C of 6.4 to 5.3. I am not hungry during the day, rarely have snacks (clean healthy) and of course, we love sardines for a pick-me-up when longer fasting. I have added iodine drops to my daily intake. I hate math so why count calories. Weight Watchers and Diabetes are now pushing Ozempic because their plans don't actually work, WW has fat instructors so how can they say their point system works!! Thank you, Dr Ekberg, for helping me get healthy in my old age and keeping me out of a senior care center!

I struggled for years with gallbladder sludge, stones and attacks that would end with me in the ER and a doctor telling me to have my GB removed. I also had terrible IBS, constipation, fissures and hemorrhoids, GERD and SIBO.
The irony of that is that was while I was on an organic, whole-foods, plant-based diet, fresh fruits, veg, grain, coconut oil, avocado oil, etc. No SAD or seed oils and never any fast foods.
Through years of that and an elimination diet, I finally healed by going 90-95% animal based, low carb. Eating 60% healthy fats healed my gut, SIBO, gallbladder and and whole host of other issues I had with hormones including migraines. No matter how hard I tried to be healthy with a plant based diet, I was unable to get enough quality protein and fats and the gut issues from all that fiber was literally killing me.
I only fast overnight. Sometimes longer and sometimes shorter. It is more about the food in the diet that is what has brought about the changes. Eat real, minimally processed animal based food if you want to give your body the building blocks it needs.

Despite that, my fasting insulin level have gone from 81 to 36 in 3 months, A1C finally below 6.0. All I know is that I lost almost 50lb in less than a year after going low card and IF. I feel great and will be running my first 10k this week.

I think your videos are the best out there on this topic. The results are indeed the proof and people will spread the word. Dropped my BMI from 27 to 23 in half a year while growing muscles using an 18/6 regimen. Bless you.

This video should go in your greatest hits playlist Dr. Ekberg. Thanks for all the good advice you’ve been giving us over the years. I’ll continue to share your ideas with my friends and family. Because of the mainstream media and big pharma, It’s a tough sell, but I do have a brother-in-law who is following your lifestyle. This makes me feel really good. 🎉. Joy, joy!
