    i going to make a lot of people cry i got 2 ss 73 nova's one i got for 50 bucks the other i got for 700 with a rebuilt 350 with inkee wheels on it nice rubber with extra set of new rubber both have no rust in them both clean titles both have the factory paint one comp orange with black stripes down the sides the other black with white strips with no engine . got a 396 rebuilt it pro built 400 turbo rob a few parts from the black one then this were the people cry i just scraped the black one because i was only building one but i get rigs cheap all the time like a 55 2 door post with a clean rust free body for 300 . just turned down a mach 1 71 with a 429 for about 500 just picked up a 65 short box pu with just a little rust in it for 100 bucks all complete with the 283 looks like it mite run my 68 pu i have 2300 in it but it is bad ass with a stroked 454 tunnel ram heavy duty 400 turbo and still have the stock 327 and 400 turbo that was in it . a good way to get good big block chey's crate engines is motor homes they come with a ho 454 with a heavy duty 400 turbo were it has the big pump and heavy clutches just needs the shift kit most have very low miles on them and u can get them for free to by the same engine would cost 12,000 to buy all complete plus u get the serpentine belt set up plus the coolers and hook ups even a cooler for the power steering and hydraulic break set up so much money is saved . the last one i got i pulled the engine and trans then sold it for 2000 bucks then went through the engine put the parts i wanted like roller stuff the engine is all ready built by the factory steel crank heavy rods and it only had 6000 miles on it . this how u save a lot of money on a build . if u built custom bracket u can even use the radiator but i just got new one that was for the stock truck it was only 300 the engine stands and mounts cost the most but it looks like the factory put it in even the fan shroud looks stock but i did put 2 pusher fans on the front they came with the motor home ended up not really use them but on very hot days running it hard then they will kick on

    Haven't tried it myself, but I read one time that you can pre crush the crush sleeve in a press. You don't have to crush it much, just enough for it to start collapsing. Don't know if it really works, but it sounds like a good idea.

    I have a 70 nova, with multi leaf springs, and traction bars on car, And I want purchase ss rims 15x8 bs 5.0 with 275x60x15 tires. Only in rear. Will the tires and rims work

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  Před 2 lety

      They should fit fine. My 73 has traction bars with multi leaf and same size wheels with a 275/60/15. All cars are a little different so you may need to run a 1/4” spacer on passenger side.

  • @johnwertenbach5580
    @johnwertenbach5580 Před 3 lety +1

    Lem me see here....2.5 is the center of the ring gear.That pinion has to drive the ring rear with 15-20 percent deeper on the ring gear.Start with a .028 shim and torque to spec and 9 outa 10 times your within .002-.004 within spec.Sometime it pays not to overthink old technology

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  Před 3 lety

      Yeah. I usually start with a .030 pinion shim and about half the time it’s right on. The problem is production tolerance stacking. I’ve had to use shims from .025 all the way to .035.

    Hey love the channel! I just bought 3:73 gears from USA standard gear and there doesn’t seem to be a number on the face of the pinion that I can go off of to find the tolerance for the pinion depth. First time doing this so I’m not too sure what numbers are what but if you have any advice that would be awesome! Thanks!

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  Před 2 lety +1

      Is there any number at all on the pinion?

    • @brysonhendersonofficial
      @brysonhendersonofficial Před 2 lety +2

      @@Shop209 there’s a few. One is EN756, 5090, and a 808.33

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  Před 2 lety

      Ok. So some companies suggest you set up pinion depth by gear pattern. Others like Richmond have a pinion depth marked on face of gear. The Auburn gear I installed had a depth that went to back of gear instead of face. I would start with a .029-.030 shin under pinion bearing. Then check pattern. It’s a pain to press bearing on and off. Maybe one of the numbers is a depth coded in.

      I used the 1 5/8” flo tech. They fit well. If you have column shift still, you’ll have to make small mod. I don’t know if any that will not hit the shift linkage.
