    Great video Need to get yourself a 1-1/2 or 2 lb Brass hammer or a large brass drift

      Right on! I lost my brass drift years ago, every useful tool

    I feel you pain on removing those axle savers. Also Gale Banks had done a lot of research on diff covers and the one your using doesn’t allow for gear oil to lube the carrier bearings or axle bearings, the stock cover has scallops which direct oil to the holes, one on each side of bearing. This could be why your carrier bearing was in bad shape.

      Interesting! I may change the cover, it seems cheap

    thanks for the video. Great help. I'm re-doing my 8.2 within the next couple months as well as an EFI for my 67 GTO. Maybe we'll see each other in Iola

    Movie quote is from Will Smith. Thought it was Bad Boys at first, but it's MIB.

    Great vid! I'm doing the exact same thing with my 69 Camaro - Putting in a Limited Slip carrier. Already replaced my axle shafts, bearings, etc. previously, so those are good to go. I'm tired of having to replace the tire on the passenger side....the ol' one-tire burnout ain't cool!

      @@langspeedcycle Question: The LS carrier I purchased is for 3.08 gears and up and I have 2.73 gears in the Camaro. Would NOT fit, no matter what I tried. Any ideas besides swapping out the ring and pinion for 3.08's or something else? I'd like to keep the 2.73's since they are great for cruising, but I can't find a compatible LS carrier for the 2.73's. Thanks

      @@lonzgarage Unfortunately you'll likely have to choose between LS or 2.73's. Unless you find an original 2-series LS. I have a 2.78 in a Pontiac with a LS. Probably meant for snow rather than drag racing. 3.08 isn't bad all around ratio. If budget allows you could lower the gear even further and convert to overdrive. Best of both worlds.

    question: i have a rear i bought years ago. a 10-bolt, but not an 8.5"- doesnt have the ears. i was told it came out of a chevelle, and it is bigger than my 7.5 in my '85 monte. has bolt-in axles and a posi, otherwise i'd have junked it. however, it doesnt have the numbers on the axle tube like yours does. it's about 10" longer than my rear, so it had to have come out of a bigger car. only numbers i found are '107296', '193', and 'c' or '0' FD. all on the center section.

      I wish I could help, but I have no idea. I would call a local driveline shop and ask about it

    so you can replace the ring and pinion with the old shims? i know you didn't replace the pinion. i was thinking of trying to do that. do you think i'll eat up the gears it's a 72 olds cutlass supreme 10 bolt but i think it's an 8.5 it does have 273 gears now how can i tell if it's an 8.5 10 bolt? the housing has two corners on left and right side of the housing

    Did your new drive axles have to have c clips installed into the limited slip rear end? If so were they hard to slide in?

    • @langspeedcycle
      @langspeedcycle  Před 9 měsíci

      Yup, they're c-clip axles, super easy to slide in

  • @sergiogrijalva3692
    @sergiogrijalva3692 Před rokem +1

    Why did you have to eat up the ring gear? Sorry if you answered this already.

    • @langspeedcycle
      @langspeedcycle  Před rokem +1

      So the ring gear is smaller in diameter than the carrier, it's almost like a pressure fit. So by heating it up, expansion happens, so it drops right on. But you need to move fast so that it doesn't cool before you get all the bolts started. Hope that helps!
