As a street photographer in NYC, I’ve had to explain countless times to people that they have absolutely no expectation of privacy in public, on public property.
Private property is another matter entirely.
Most NYC police are informed about this, some are not and have had to explain this to them.
I carry legal information with me to show to people.
If arrested, a person potentially has a legal case.

Here’s an idea…walk into the bank and tell the person in charge that you were trying to use the ATM, but you are feeling very uncomfortable with all the cameras around filming your private information. Then tell them to turn off their cameras or you will call the police.
Then the clerk is going to call the cops and have you escorted outside their private business. Once outside they don't care no more unless you point a camera at their window.

@@LucidDubQuest Unless they blocked someone from entering or exiting and refused to move when asked they did not block the entrance. To say they did would be akin to saying someone walking in or out is blocking the entrance.
If you watch, you'll notice that the police ultimately backed down. This is almost certainly because a higher up came and viewed the video of them "blocking" the entrance and noticed they didn't prevent anyone from entering/exiting the establishment and thus did not actually block access to said establishment.
Is it a bit rude/nonsensical, sure. However, it's done to help educate civilians and LEOs about the first amendment which is often misunderstood by both.
An anecdotal case is when my neighbor hit my car. I knocked on her door for 15 minutes while she refused to answer; after which I proceeded to photograph the damage on my vehicle and her vehicle. She apparently did hear the knocking as she was watching out of her window and confronted me (quite rudely) as soon as I started photographing the damage on her vehicle.
She told me I couldn't take pictures of her vehicle even though I was photographing from public property.
She was quite irate and cursing profusely so I started recording the conversation; she noticed and said I couldn't do that without her consent and threatened to call the police on me for recording our interaction and photographing her vehicle from public property.
I told her to go ahead, I'm well aware of my First Amendment rights and was advised by the local police to photograph her car if I could from public property and to record any conversation with her.
When I went to the police station to file the report the officers and I had a rather great laugh at her behavior and her lack of knowledge surrounding the First Amendment.
Where I live it is legal to record private conversations without the consent of the other parties if you are part of the conversation.
It is also legal to record private conversations you are not a part of if they occur in public locations where there is no expectation of privacy; this is protected under the First Amendment.
Yet when you do this people tend to believe you are in violation of the law and their right to privacy.
