- Episode 275 of Mike Finnegan's Garage is bringing the heat and giving your more of what you asked for; We are back to work on my gangster '61 Caddy, the car with the twin-turbo Nelson Racing Engines 540ci Big-Block Chevrolet under the hood and Weld bead Lock wheels wrapped in phat Mickey rubber out back. Until now it was really just a single turbo deal but today we are releasing the twins! Both of the Mirror Image turbskis are mounted in the engine back and the front half to the cage is done. Plus, we I brought Side Chick home with me and in this video we are taking the first step toward's building a more reliable jet boat. The unreliable 632ci Big-Block Chevy is out and the 711ci Sonny Leonard Racing Engines Hemi that was in my old Placecraft Jet Boat, is in! In this video we see if the 5-inch bore space Brodix aluminum block fits in the same spot as the old 4.84-inch bore space Dart aluminum block and if we can re-used the old aluminum motor mounts. I'm super stoked on this episode and hope you guys enjoy it, too!

As an electrician, I need to see in hard to reach areas. I used the video function of my phone to take videos of what I can't see, and just shove my phone instead of my head because I'm too poor to buy a remote camera. Maybe a good tip for the future.
Not to mention those cheap USB endoscopes that'll connect directly into an Android phone.
@@cudak888I always use to use my phone too that way. However I didn't know they make those for Samsung phones. Thanks man. Gonna look into that. 👍
I have so many random videos of gaps and holes just like this I should probably delete
@@niewissen9912 - Correction, Android. I think mine was $30 off Amazon; just used it to find a leak behind drywall without cutting half the house apart.
@@cudak888thanks. I assumed thats what was meant, android. Thanks for the info. Gonna make life alittle easier 😅
Glad to see you brought Side Chick home. Not something you could normally do!
Damn!
The color combination on this boat makes that hemi look even better than what it did in Game Over… Hell yeah! 👍🤘👏
Whole time I’m thinking, Ace Ventura… lmao “Like a glove”. 😆
Mike I have "hard anodized" alot of things in my career. Make it work Mike, perfection takes years. "Don't get it right, just get it running".
I highly recommend getting some Milwaukee sharpies because ever since I switched, I have been able to write on damn near everything without cleaning it. Its really crazy how well they work.
I can’t tell the difference.. I’m pretty sure they are the same as long as you buy the mark on anything sharpie . But I do have all Milwaukee markers now basically because they are everywhere I purchase parts/ materials
"Perfection is the enemy of "good enough"" :D Keep it going Finnegan!
Can’t wait to see sidechick with the Sonny Leonard motor make a pass, especially when on nitrous, I’m so excited that you’re finally putting that motor to work!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! The Caddy is my favorite project of yours right now...... Also, that turbo placement on it is amazing!! 🤙
My heart is with the '61 Caddy!! My father owned a white '61 4-door (Sedan Deville) back in the day and has a lot of sentimental meaning for me... So cool to see the dedication and progress on her!! Thank you Mike for all that you give to the automotive world!! Cheers and have a wonderful holiday season!! -Perry
id like to take a minute to recognize the patience and upbeat additude Joe Cole has. He'd be welcome for christmas dinner at my house any year.
Agreed
I think we all need a link to that belt sander you were using on the dowel pins on the hemi.
525industries, look for 360-tubing-sander. Tried before but YT doesn't like hot links so attempt number 3
Now that should cure your engine issues !! Looking real good, looking forward to more on this build. Thanks.
Awesome as Always... I love the fact your channel is bits and pieces of different stuff Keeps this Channel interesting... Keep up the good work ..
On the Caddy I would run the cold side from each rotary muffler forward to a set of intercoolers mounted on either side of the radiator to fill in the giant openings where the rad support used to be and take advantage of as much air flow as possible. Plus it will make the turbos more efficient and make more power because cooler denser air is always a good thing for making power and it will look awesome in my opinion too.
He's probably going to be running methanol, which creates its own intercooler effect and doesn't need really need any additional cooling.
Mike is definitely aware of and familiar with intercoolers and knows that cool air is better 😂
Wife comes in to save the day. God bless our wives that support the things that make us happy.
I am so happy to see that engine in another boat!
As an exhaust guy who bends pipe regularly. What you need is a miracle pointer for your pipe. It'll give you the degree in which the pipe will roll once you zero it out in your bender. Then you just need your distance from bend to bend
Good thing you bought that boat Finn.. I remember your last boat was nothing but a headache and always broken. At least this one is always broken and a headache 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mike, you could always use an on demand thermostatically controlled electric water pump, which reduces the drag on the motor. You can then mount it wherever there is space.
I believe there's a BMW E9x one that a lot of folks use, but I'm not sure whether that would be enough for this car
that color scheme for side chick is chefs kiss my dude
Side note Mike - Those Boise Cascade Versa Lam beams in your garage roof are made in my backyard. Beautiful White City, Oregon......carry on.
WOW 😲, the Cadi is finally finished! It feels like I've been waiting forever. So exciting that it's coming together! Thanks for the video 📸.
You know it's a good time when Finnegan builds a new turbo kid.
......
Kit! I meant turbo kit! Oh my.... 😁😁😁🤟
Given how many headers you build, have you seen the icenginworks 'header mock-up kits'? It's basically plastic pipe that joins like Lego, so you can create a mock up of how your exhaust will look by just click plastic together, then take it off the car and copy it in metal.
I'm sure Mike has one , in my mind I can remember watching the episode.
19:08 "This should be EXACTLY 112-ish drgrees." 😂😂
You need to do a Q & A with Joe, I'd like to know his story and how he came to work with you.
Both vehicles are awesome!!!
Chip Foose get @ me..😅😂 great episode Finn.
I remember seeing that car at jimmys shop. Keep up the good work finnigan.
I love a mirrored build.
Its so relaxing❤
Mr. Finnegan, I know this might be off-topic but I live in FLA. Not far from you. I did car audio for 30 years now. Retired. I would love to come down and do a fully blown alarm system.in the ramp truck plus door lock actuators. No charge to you i'm just bored LOL
Between your channel, Tony's and Kevin Smith's, we all get to live vicariously through y'all's automotive escapades! Thanks Fin for the fun content!
3 terrible channels.
Now that's a Caddy 👍
Dude your just making the weight plate even lighter. Winnner winner just had a turkey dinner!
To help with the corrosion, use ACF50. It works wonders.
Hi Mike just got my cap in the mail thank you very much. OWEN QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA
As they say Mike, behind every great man is a greater woman lol. Thanks for shring all you do I really appreciate it and no doubt that everyone else does as well.
Behind every great man is a woman, rolling her eyes......
Yeah, they're behind us cuz that's where we keep our wallet.
If "perfection gets in the way of progress" ends up on a shirt, i'll have an XL
The 711 looks right at home in side chick! I really hope everything works well with this combo! I really like this boat!!!
Bit of a late comment, but I've used the corrugated dashboard duct ( the silver stuff used in old cars) to mock up header bends and exhaust bends. You can extend it or shrink it and it keeps its position really well. Then I just cut my tubes to match its profile.
I like all your projects either work or personal but I'm really glad you are back on your Caddy!
when you get a new car chassis, paint it with a Clear rustolem Paint or a sealer , if you install a roll cage, clean the metal & paint it with clear, clear coating all steel parts will be a lot less Sanding of the Metal Later!! the Caddy is so damn Cool, I Hope to see it in 2024 going Fast & Winning.
So glad it's Cadillac footage and not jet boat
Dude! Dykem company makes dye markers that work way better than sharpie when touching up anodized parts. I use them on scratched AN fittings.
I can't believe I'm saying this because I really don't like boats, but I'm more excited about the boat than I am about the Caddy.
I’m not an engine builder, and I’m probably talking out of my ass. But the guy doing the tuning on the engine seemed to me like he was giving answers that didn’t always make sense. ( at least to me ) That being said, I’m glad to see you going with the Sonny Leonard engine and doing the work in house. We’ve all seen what your capable of. Can’t wait to see you winning next year.
Who was the tuner? The boat engine tuner?
I'm glad you said that about the brake master cylinder. I was wondering about that...
I would love to have a poster of you making a pass in side chick at that last event. The front center mounted rear facing shots were epic!!! Minus the go-pro shadow that needs edited out...😂
You should add three or four notches on the inside of the bend on the two bars you've installed. Basically make some wedges from some thinner metal at an obtuse angle, slice for them, and weld them in. That way, if this ever hits something (knock on wood) the bars will naturally collapse at that bend and not direct the blow inwards. If you go look at a modern truck you'll see them use similar concepts on the rails (if they're made with that system, i think a few Fords are, but i might mistake the engine bays). It won't take away from the strength you need from those rails in common use, but when the going gets tough, you'll have something to fall back on.
Custom machining and metal finishing now available at Mike's garage. SWEET!
Could install a chain fall from the rafters to help install engines you can't reach.
so glad to see this motor back in something cool
Finalllllllyyyy!! im stoked to see you get the DAD-illac finished up. this thing is going to be sick and i love the work youve done soo far. keep pushing Mike your doing great
So sick! Side Chick is going to absolutely rip once you get it dialed in!
Ok. I got to say it.
Anyone else think we need to flash mob Fin’s garage and install some white sheetmetal on the ceiling of the garage?? 🤣🤣
She can hold a turbo while it is welded. She cooks really good..
....and she has an awesome 66 Suburban Carryall..
Seems like a keeper to me...😊
Enjoy the channel...
🎼 🎶 🎵 “They twins are alive with the sound of whistles…” 🎵 🎶
To be sung to the tune of “The Sound of Music”
I can't believe those 4 little bolts is all that holds that monster in the boat
When i got to tack weld tubes like that i just use mig welder then tig then grind of mig tacks fully weld
Great job the Cadillac and the boat are looking awesome
Great content thanks for sharing
Big Blocks, Hemis, & Corn Dogs.😎
The twin turbos look awesome! Is that setup too rigid though? With the turbos hard-mounted to the frame, the exhaust and charge tubes hard-mounted to the engine and the turbos, it seems like everything is hard-mounted together and there's no room for anything to flex. Or is there a flexible connection in the exhaust side that I'm missing?
Damn that Sonny Leonard Hemi is an absolute beauty! Let's go racing!
There is a product called Duralac, its green, nasty and sometimes a bit smelly, but it will absolutely stop corrosion between your aluminium surfaces. We use it in aviation all the time and its well known by shipwrights. Its cheap to purchase. Not not deteriorate so last forever
Finally a boat and Caddy video. And it's all in one!
I really can't wait till this caddy goes down the drag strip
Live here in PA a cheap way to help corrosion in winter because of Salting roads is good old baking soda it help neutralize the acidic properties I've use a garden sprayer that u pump up and it's good do if u don't get right to wasing it u can find measurements on net just quick way stop things if just in pinch or don't want to deal with at moment because of other factors keep up great work and have great day.
That engine is a work of art
“Those are the two things I care about right now”
every garage wrencher with multiple projects hahaha
I think many of us had realised that you were juggling commitments, but also providing some variation in the content.
yo! at some point in this video i mention the Paradise Dragstrip toy drive, which is happening on December 2nd, 2023. It's one of my favorite events of the year. Yeah, well, your guy got his calendar dates all screwed up and I just found out that I'm filming Roadkill the same day but in an entirely different part of the country. So, I will NOT be attending the toy drive. However, if the weather cooperates, David Newbern will be there with his blown Fox Body Mustang. Sorry guys and gals, wish I could make it.
No worries mike. Sometimes we all have to call in the experts. My wife also helps me around the shop 😂😂😂
Keep doing lots of boat stuff. Love the boats.
No shade to the old engine, but that Sonny Leonard is in a class of its own.
Good stuff keep it up 👍
I'll call this one love it when a plan comes together looking 💯 guys...🙂👍🙏
Love the caddy ,
Can't wait to see,"SIDE CHICK" , with a SONNY MOTOR,!!!
Good Chinese hoist tag line: Our Hoists Always Let You Down.
Can't wait to see that caddy on the road...
I got one word for you dude, Zoomies!
I friggin love you Mike Finnegan! Telling the couch mechanics to pound sand and giving the Sonny's 711 a home after Game Over put a smile on my face! I can't wait to see Side Chick come together with the new motor!🤘
Right. Here's the hypocritical irony of that.
See for years Finnegan has made, what can only be described as a personal badge of honour, a point of always talking about how much he rushes things, how bad his decisions are, making fun of his fails which has often been down to either rushing and so on. Now he is getting pissy because people calls him out on it? So much on this channel has been half-assed or rushed. Nothing odd in people thinking that it was the problem.
Finally!!! One of the channels that I follow actually spent the money, or got turbo sponsors, for mirror image spinny boys. Awesome!!!
CAR WILL BREAK WITHIN 5 MINUTES ANYHOW. WHY YOU WORRY?
At 41:14 Mike every time i pulled the engine from my old jet boat had to do it from the side. That meant putting one side of trailer on jackstands and pulling that wheel off. I paused the vid, so not sure what you have planned...but in the future how about an i-beam mounted overhead in that bay with an overhead trolley. Would work for cars too, not just boats. Poke that i beam outside and you an unload a pickup truck real quick too. Just a thought.
Edit : you would have to convert that bay to barn doors to stick the i beam outside but still think it would be cool
YEA! Caddy time again
You can use a piece of angle iron to give a straight line on a piece of tube.
I really don't care about the boat stuff. I'm here for the Caddy.
Mike, Sonny’s Hemi looks so right in Side Chick! Good to bring some of your past in with your future…and the Caddy looks cool too!
With the magic of youtube, Blasphemy was delivered, and the rear axle was taken apart...Amazing
That is awesome!!!
Out of the park 😊😊 zoom zoom
Game over lives on in side chick
That high def audio is picking up Finnegan's old man squeaky nose 😂😂😂
Much love from Guam/ Washington state 🤙🏾🇬🇺🇺🇸🍻
I can’t wait to see the caddy ripe this next year
I'm a Cadillac lover. Can't wait to see you take it to sonic or AutoZone or something.
I picked up a two-pack of paint pens from the jungle site for under $10. Great for the rock chips on my commuter.
You da man! Lot of work but oh so nice! Keep up the good work sir!
Awesome!!
