Oh No! Blasphemi's First Test Pass Shuts Down the Dragstrip.

- It's taken 14 months for me to finally have Blasphemi ready to rip down a dragstrip and for the first time ever, I'm actually attending a private test session. Episode 276 of Mike Finnegan's Garage takes you along for the ride as we track-prep my 528ci Hemi-swapped 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air and then head to Alabama International Dragway in Steele, Alabama to see how the car runs. And without fail, we managed to find an entirely new weak point in my car and exploit said weak point in spectacular fashion. We legit littered the starting line with massive pieces of my brand new transmission. Watch the video, feel my pain, and then head to www.fsmgarage.com and grab my new Research and Destruction tee shirt because lord knows this latest breakdown aint gonna be cheap. lol
Thanks for watching and more importantly, thanks for the support.

I saw the pictures on Instagram so I knew the trans grenaded, but was honestly surprised by how much violence was packed into that single second, without Tony Angelo even being mentioned.
Lol
This car makes me think of Charlie Brown, trying to kick the football. Everytime he thinks he's going to make a pass, Lucy snatches some powertrain part away and he lands flat on his back again.
at what point do you realize the car is cursed.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
i had a solid three weeks of fun with that car before it went sideways. and per usual, it was something entirely new that broke. hard to get mad at it, we'll fix it and move on.
@@FinnegansGarageIt's such a cool car!
Still 1000% better than when he got it!
No one told Blasphemi that the Roadkill shoot was over I see... But the fact Finn had the PERFECT sweatshirt on is amazing as always lol
I don't know man, Blasphemi seems to make the Roadkill episode and almost always seems to break when Finn is doing his own thing 🤷 some reverse psychology thrown into the tune might help 😂
Give Tick a call
@@felonysounds might need to have an exorcism here if things dont change. lol
@@FinnegansGarage in this day and age I'm sure there's a car exorcist out there somewhere lol
@@FinnegansGarageif you want to cast out a Demon, I’ll take it…I love me an A body!
Manufacturers need to hire Finn to stress test their parts
Credit where credit is due, Blasphemi always finds new and exciting ways to break
I wait all week to see what kind of shenanigans Mike is gonna do for the next episode.
Always enjoy the show and it has become part of my Sunday morning routine.
thanks for making it part of you day!
Look at the bright side, the clutch held up.
Thank god the $8000 transmission gave up its life to save the $500 clutch!
Something has to slip. And a real racer knows that.
That was a lot better than watching you open presents
While she’s getting fixed you should get the windows tinted yellow like a lot of old gassers were, I think it would be awesome!
Agreed
Ive been saying that since the first yellow lexan hoodscoop.
It's already fixed
So shocked! Blasphemi is broken? Hard to believe! Reliability just ain’t a thing.
Dang it man! I swear you can't catch a break with this car. I still love the content and the channel man. I hope they warranty the trans for you cause I'm sure the runs against David in California were the same and it held together. It has to be some sort of mechanical failure. In the meantime keep it together and keep posting great content to all your avid watchers. Thank you .
the tail shaft is still in the output shaft. maybe it had a casting flaw, and it finally let go?
Have to wonder if the fact Mike was launching the car on a super sticky (and super cold) radial prepped track was to blame. Totally grabbed the tire and didn’t allow any wheel speed. Something had to give.
The ratio of go and no go was a tad off.
@@danmyers9372Totally. 👍
You need to honk the horn at the same time as when you slam on the brakes, and yell LOOK OUT, it really adds to the scare factor
Mike, I Love Blasphemi & I wish you all the best with it and I will be waiting for further updates. Good Luck !
With how much glue gets put down for radial tire cars is unreal, track was really tight
Every time i see a video on this i think i gain more respect for your love for this car. this Literally have to love the dedication at this point. The car and combo is so awesome.
Great to see you at the track with your baby 😊 keep on keeping you will get it figured out!! Love the Channel keep up the Amazing Work !!!!!
Sir as always amazing video and fantastic work on the car. I can feel the pain in your soul when you seen parts fly.
Hey Mike, if you are gonna use that enclosed trailer more, maybe think about putting one of those small diesel heaters in it! Keeps everything nice and warm and you can run it when going down the road!👍
I want more with tony ,between you two nothing would be safe😂
hey finn i love you man ive been watching you since roadkill was on youtube, i look forward to your vids all week , thanks for being you ! joe your awsome too !
Stick car drag racing is not for the faint of heart. It will be back better than ever.
Especially on a super cold radial prepped surface. Not ideal conditions for Mike’s combo.
i'm very excited for the next test session. i think its gonna go really well.
@@FinnegansGarage What's the worst that can happen right? 😬
Maybe time for a glide with a gear venders over drive unit? Or lenco trans?
@@roberteast4160 Never! Blasphemi is stick for life. There are a million other cars that let off the button and go for a Sunday cruise down the 1/4 mile. Blasphemi ain’t one of them.
Finn, @43:11 you can see the output shaft is cracked in half! Clearly the output shaft was too brittle for the amount of torque you hit it with. Anyway, I hope the front half of the trans is salvageable.
Back in ‘72 I was showing off for a girl in front of the Bell High School swimming pool in my 66 Mustang GT 2+2 and broke the pinion off the 9inch rear end, the axel actually spun and dumped the gears out on the street and the body fell down onto the tires! I feel your pain!
Your patience is commendable given the luck you’ve had lately. Love the show, it’s part of my Sunday routine. Hopefully you catch a break replacing the trans.
Hey , with a track that sticky, and a powerful stick car, it's well, kinda common to free up the trans crossmember to prevent this very thing. With solid motor plates and especially with mid plates any and all chassis flex goes straight to the tail shaft mount. If it's firmly secured ( solid mount bolted tight) the tranny cracks... kind of a common understanding among the hard core. Old school fix? Regular warn out rubber mount and a bicycle clamp ! Modern fellas run new fangled soft poly mount and loose bolts.
Many thanks for your show...love every episode of everything you do.
hes not running a solid trans mount
Wow , more tough luck. I have always wondered about the strength of those transmissions . i am sure " eventually " Blasphemi will be successful passes down the track. Many thanks for the update , and I am sure you will get this figured out
Dude, it won it's class in Drag Week. Just sayin'.
On the bright side, even when Blasphemi breaks, it's still the most badass looking car around.
Something broken with the rear end? Had a similar thing happen, it turned out that there was a partially broken weld on the 4-link that let the rear end torque up. The u joint bound up and snapped off the tailshaft housing and slammed the driveshaft into the floor
Joe seems like good people. Love watching 55 content.
You can feel Mike doing everything he can not to scream on camera lol.
Frozen and cold... for a month in Georgia. I parked all my cool stuff end of October when the first snow fell and they salted the roads. Mid May will probably be when I get anything out again. At least I get to watch Mike doing fun stuff in what I get for June weather. This is build season for me.. :)
G-Force Transmissions' marketing team is sweating bullets right now.
Too much tire on a very tight race track is the transmission builders fault ?
Rubber Duck is looking really good. CAN NOT WAIT to see that Roadkill episode! Thank you very much for moving that annoying cord. Damn... the day was looking so good, too. Change the name to Blastphemi. You may want to isolate the video frame where all four wheels were off the ground. That was violent.
Bunny hop to fab shop :(
Had to rewind and re-watch. Ouch
@@christopherhess8523 Me too.
Reminds me of a real fast VW it either hangs hoops through a couple of gears or it jumps a foot off the ground and rolls to a stop.
Bro, you can't catch a break.... Great to see you at SEMA this year as early as it was. Hoping they take care of you on this one.....
Seeing this reminded me of the first time my friend ran slicks on his 69 GTO it did same thing.. hooked up pulled the left front tire off the ground and blew the rear of the trans apart.. yes there was pieces parts and gear oil everywhere.
I wish ya luck with getting the transmission fixed or replaced.. hopefully the next one holds together for ya. Love the car.. when I was a kid my friends neighbor had a 55 Chevy gasser with a 327 and a 4 gear.. loved that car too.
Dude my heart dropped reading the description. Every fkn time he gets it finished something goes wrong. I love the build hate the stress 🤣
i put an AFR gauge on my 91 TBI chevy pickup truck. it cruised at 17:1 if there was barely a load on it. it ran at 14.7:1 damn near all the time. the only time it ran 12 or 13:1 was when the engine was cold. there quite a difference in power when it did too.
Did it have a blower without an intercooler like his? Blowers heat the air. Fuel cools it some.
Sorry for your troubles at the track. At the start of the video (at about 0:30) something is flapping around under the car. While I don't see how the trans could have been broken at that point, maybe it was leading up to it? Take a look and good luck.
Thanks Finnegan! There is no one more fun to watch break stuff :-) Hang in there!
Really looking forward to the new roadkill. Favorite show by far! Love the RD! Great to see Blasphem taking another trip.
Eventually you will get her all worked out.
Just add more chrome!
"Chrome - it doesn't get you home, but it sure looks good pushin!"
OMG, she hopped for a split second. I have seen a lot of stuff break, but never that part. Your show never disappoints. Waiting to see you next week show.
Not sure if it would fit or not, but an upper rad hose from a 2002 7.3 Powerstroke (the one that goes through the belt) might fit in place of the universal type one you are using. Just a thought. Keep on doing what youre doing. - Andrew Durling - Calgary, AB, Canada
I learned (what *Joe* says at 13:02 ) to tighten, loosen, then re-tighten new (NGK) spark plugs in motorcycle 50 years ago.
You would think that just tightening a little more during the install would do the same thing but it doesn't. They always (easily) turn in a little more
when re-tightened vs it's obvious that your over torqueing them (into aluminum head) if you try turning them in that extra 1/8 to 1/4 turn the first time...
Hey Mike. Have you considered using a dry break fitting for the fuel lines to make changing the fuel lines over easier
When mine failed like that (a different brand) we found the hardened parts were over-treated and became brittle. They broke like balsawood. And warranteed which was very very cool.
i'd like to perform a test on the old shaft to see how deep the heat treat went.
@FinnegansGarage we feel your pain. Mine was an ovaltrack car. 1 major open rules show on the biggest track. Dirt, 5,/8 mile. Travel for 10 hours. Broke while dominating the fast qualifier heat race. Just flat Broke my heart along with trans, driveshaft and part of exhaust. Well hell. Fixer up and wheels moving ahead. Health and wellness for you and yours (family and followers)
That was wild. The whole car was off the ground at least 3 inches all at the same time. My jaw hit the floor. Hooked so hard on that pass jump boom.
How can we not like you Mike? Your the best! I was really looking forward to another reverse burn out.
LOL... I love your content.
I see Blasphemi, I click ❤
so does blasphemi when you push it. click ati click ati click ati ;))) you really have to be a masochist with a big wallet as a drag racer
What did it make after all Pete’s tweaks on the dyno?
Makes me happy to see you all using hobo freight stuff like I do.
I love the way this starts out. I am a happy man !!!!
Was waiting all week to see how it happened. Man that sucks! Hope it's under warranty... otherwise the kids won't have Xmas. 😁 What's Joe's story? Did you ever explain where he's from? Is he a neighbor? He's cool.
Transmission guy better step up to the plate and do the right thing you can fix it with one word POWER GLIDE!
8:10 am in NC waiting for something good to happen this morning. Well my wish came true. Got finn to watch, hell yeah that will get pumped for todays work load on the project for my channel.
Hope you have a good day bro!
Thank you as always for more blasphemi content it motivates me to work on my money pit
Looks like it’s time for an adjustable clutch or way more than 3000rpm off the line. When the track pulls off your shoes and socks something needs to slip. Sometimes “babying” off the line with low RPM is the wrong way to go.
I am following along on BLASPHEMY, really great seeing it going down the road.... Really love Rubber Ducky too!..... Wow watched entire video... Damn
Great video mike. I will let you in on a few Canadian tricks for for cold test sessions 1 Block heaters either 120v in block or a heater glued to the Pan/dry sump tank 2 heaters directed at drive train, 3 Starter fluid only during roll over start 4 Always jack car up and run it through the gears and get heat into the diff.5 Run it a fast idle 1500 to 2000
Bummer i was as disappointed as you were well you keep breaking the weak parts and upgrading with new better parts so it’s getting better
I just love this 55 Mike. It's a beast and sure likes to eat up parts but man it's so cool!
🥹🥺missed y’all coming through town again dang! Right up the road
That man with the famous fingers and knowledge you know congratulations bud💪🇱🇷
Every time I see Blasphemy! My heart rate goes up! And the Rubber Duck looks great!
Dang man you had us all excited to see what it could do. Sorry for the bad luck!
EVERYONE love you Mike ! You’re content is first rate and no one beats your sense of humor ! I still need to know how to send you the 1/24th scale tribute BLASPHEMI model.
Last time I saw the same damage, it was a 4 speed out of a dump truck. The workers overloaded it with concrete slab pieces, even though the load didn't reach the top of the bed sides. Broke the output shaft at the rear just like Blasphemi did.
Thank you for just rolling with it and not screaming and throwing things.
Screaming and throwing things? Whaddya think this is, WhistlinDiesel?
That is my favorite wheel combination front and rear set up ever! But you really need to get one of those cool Spinny thingies to do the spark plugs!🔌
I love this car.. i cant wait to see it make a killer solid pass..i know you can win drag week again.
Things are right in the world. Finnegan has steady content up and Blasphemi is eating speed parts almost as fast as the Rotsun. Maybe someday, SOME DAY she will return to her rightful place as a drag/ drive winning racer. Until then, MOAR parts!!
You can do it brother I got faith in you always have since the day one episode one of Roadkill way back
His luck mirrors mine. Brand new engine and 8-71 blower ran long enough to adjust mixture and timing. Mice went up into cylinder 4 and stored whole corn for the winter. Yep, engine came right back out for inspection and repairs.
That's my home track. Broke a cam in one S-10 and the rear end in another. Yeah. That track hooks!
I love Blashemi ❤ but I absolutely love Rubber Ducky the most ❤😂 its such a cool old skool Pro-street beast, and that yellow paint 👌
Great to see you can still have a laugh about it mate. Was a great episode to. Q,R,D....
Man, that sucks. Finn, I think you said it best years ago, Blasphemi is the the car the never fails to fail. But it's still pretty bad ass, and we still root for it everytime.
Dam Finnegan! Love that you have a sense of humor about it
Omg not another setback :( Cant imagine how frustrating this car must be getting. Keep at it! We love Blasphemi!
I bought a 55' gasser Hot Wheels car from a supermarket the other day because I'm basically still 12 in my brain and I wanted a mini version of yours. Now I have a 1:1 replica because now they're both just rollers lol. Your luck never changes Mike hahaha
I’m from Montana, love the Billings plate on the caddy.
I am dying for that episode of RK. I predict a lot of awesome shots of 2 awesome cars
Mike rarely do I say you've broken my spirit. I was SOOO pumped when you did your burnout the moment I saw debris hit the ground I'm pretty sure I yelled at the computer, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Dammit man, I'm so sorry!!!
I love Blasphemi Also i love the headliner / interior of the ramp truck
Gotta respect your commitment to the '55. If i owned a project car that would let me down as often as Blasphemi has let you guys down... I probably would've gotten rid of it. Or, as i'd like to put it "Let it ruin someone else's life".
yeah but then you have one good day of cruising or taking the kids to school in it and I forget all about the drama it caused me before.
Finnegan is the only person I know that can keep a smile after something like that.
Thank you for the videos mike.love you
I’m just glad the motor didn’t blow up again. I can’t even imagine how you feel man.
I absolutely love the 55 Shivy body style. If I would ever build one I most certainly would install a MOPAR engine. I disgust me to no end seeing these street rods of the Chry, PLy, Dodge mfg with a shivy drive train. You get the atta boy for this build.
600 hp N/A SBF and faceplated TKO600 in a foxbody, shredded 3rd, cluster, and cracked the case at the end of last year. New trans made it 200 foot and the same thing first time out this year. Stick cars are fun, when they go. Lol.
With a 550 hp pumpgas 383 sbc my Liberty faceplated TKO 600 did the same exact thing 3 times before I went with a G Force. What happens with the TKO is the main and countershaft actually spread apart enough to strip the teeth! The G FORCE 101A has a handcuff connecting the two shafts to keep this from happening. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my 101A!!!! Now sporting a 630 hp pumpgas 414 sbc and that 101A is worth every cent!!!
@@tomhanson4153 mine had the threaded bearing retainer and all. The g-force is in my future. Not entirely sure if I want the 101 or the 5 speed. I have 90 percent of the parts for the next engine build and it’ll make close to 1000 N/A. 445 SBF with Higgins Race Heads from Australia. I’ve not read into the 101 as much as I need to. Im not sure of its limits as far as HP and weight.
Well Blasphemi is still my all time favorite hot rod. And I feel your pain. Seems like every time I think my 55 is all set and ready to go racing something goes bad wrong. Hopefully I'll have my 55 ready for RMRW 1.0 2024 and I'll be ready to run against Blasphemi and winner buys the cold snacks!
Gota love it lol don’t feel bad Mike as long as the motor is still rumbling lol
The new engine is still alive, there's always that! 😂
Chrysler goodness first thing Sunday morning, love it!
You got good luck like I do no luck at all. Keep up the good work and videos Hope to see it make a lick soon.
Love your work and you don’t hide the reality of race cars.
Based upon where you were appearing at PRI, you’re going to love your new trailer. I’ve had a ATC for a bunch of years now and it’s nothing shy of amazing.
I'm looking forward to it. I've never owned a new trailer before.
I have a protouring 71 Camaro that seems to do the same thing to me every time I get to a road course track day. I can drive it across the country for Power Tour but can’t seem to make a full day at the track!
Man oh man, I am so happy to see the Ruber duck! I was worried you sold it because I hadn't seen it in a while, and I have been scanning the backup on every episode..
Pretty sure it's owned by Cotton or Snow
You brought the wrong tires. That radial prep is no joke. Jason has taught a lot of people how it’s done!!
Great vid, Pan...although @ec_details Eddie's head is going to explode! 🤣
The Boss was my first foam cannon and I LOVE it! I use it with a Ryobi 1800 with NO issues. I DID install the supplied 1.1 orifice. I also love that Griot's offers the BOSS wide mouth jars with lids separately! I grabbed one during their BF sale. I did pick-up my first MJJC v3 during a BF sale I ran across because I just couldn't pass it up at $52!
I once blew the housing on my Muncie 4-speed in my 66 Chevelle powershifting into second. In my case the yoke on the driveshaft split from one end to the other and in turn blew apart the tail housing on the transmission.
