I am saddened by the number of negative comments claiming 53 HP increase was a waste of time and money. It really highlights the lack of basic understanding of SCs and the build then adjust approach to Hot Rodding. For folks who aren't famaliar with Superchargers (and aren't puking out your negative opinions) the combo gets more boost with a simple pulley change. More blower speed equals more boost equals more HP. 53 HP was with 4 psi boost. There will be a follow up episode with more power. Have to build it before you can tweak it.
A supercharger isn’t for peak horsepower, it’s for more horsepower at every point in the rev range.
The dyno graph would've made a clearer picture in this instance than just the peak number
We’re spoiled by impractical builds with insane numbers. This is much closer to reality you can replicate in your own garage. And yeah, as you point out it’s incremental and 50+ HP is a difference you can really feel.
Exactly. But the keyboard warriors aren't trying or innovating anything in their moms basements so it's hard to take them seriously.
Agreed
Love your video editing, simple, not too flashy and doesn’t distract from your content.
No bs straight to the point we love it
Thanks!
The over meme'd, zoom in and out and other edits are lame. Actual content 🤟
Exactly. My adhd can't keep up with content creators these days😂
@@Calvin-NelsonI’m not sure if you have already answered this question or not but are there any *POSITIVE* updates on your Studebaker and Truck and Trailer being stolen from the hotel in South Carolina? I’m like others when I say that I feel like someone at the hotel is possibly involved. I’m going to keep sharing this story hoping that someone will find it. Keep on being a *POSITIVE PERSON* Calvin-Nelson it says so much about your character.
They haven't found a way to tax the air around us. Dont worry. They're working on it.
Clean air act . Yep they already have
I was trying to figure out the port fuel injection situation, then I realized that this engine must already feature direct injection, so any time the port fuel injectors are running, the air flow down the intake runners must be substantial enough to make up for the poor fuel injection geometry. It was a satisfying "Oh!" moment for me.
Yeah the gen 5 Chevy small blocks are direct injected factory
You do you Calvin, it's why we're here. It's all about having a lark. Pun intended. I'll show myself out now, cheers. ✌🇦🇺
Love this build, sounds amazing!
Peak V8 sound in my opinion.
best thing ever seeing you upload new vid right after i got back to the house after spending whole evening in garage
Hope you enjoyed it!
You get slightly longer runner length with taller adapter plate so that could be a bonus as well.
awww yeah
"Free for us to use".... "For now" lol. Great video as usual.
Thanks bud!
YEAH!!! It sounds great. I want to see the bigger crank pulley power numbers.
We'll be running it down the track with that very soon.
Underrated channel, such unique content
Uhm, _Wow!_ . . . y'all never cease to impress me with your ingenuity.
Theres a guy on youtube for a couple years with a white z06 c7 180 degree headers and he has a full log of pictures how it was done on the forums. Really unique project he used 2 rectangle brick shaped 4-1 collectors on top of each other for the limited space
Ok. Nice
Nice! I would love to see some of the efi tuning as well 😊
I have same press comes in handy and i paid $15 from old man who barley used it and made some cool attachments and plates for it as well.
so the closest to a supercharged v8 with 180 degree headers i could find was an 8-1 equal length turbo setup. and it sounded bad ass
I've seen that one. It is really cool.
Absolutely love this channel.
The amount of work you're willing and able to do to these builds is truly amazing. Anyone being negative about this clearly doesn't do any of this work themselves and can't appreciate the professionalism you build with
That is one of the coolest cars there is.
Wow. Never cease to amaze.
Neato! Can't wait to see what she does with more boost. 😎
Looks great Calvin, this is what I was thinking about when I started looking for the LT 6.6L truck engine
You would have less to do lol always a good thing
Good luck out there buddy
Outstanding!!!!! I really liked your detailed video. Those that are running these engines will find this very helpful. Great Job.
Sounds really freaking awesome
Awsome barns.😊
the air we breath is free "for now".
What a awesome build!
I knew the no boost life was not going to last. I really like this car, I am just not in to whatever is the cookie cutter favorite of the month(mustangs/fox body etc...)
Yeah. I've been spoiled. Lol
The most important thing is what torque it had aspired to and what it has now.
Nice work Calvin.
Calvin, I know this is an offshoot request, but I've always wanted to run this sort of combo, however the vehicle in question would be the latest gen Astro/Safari.. was curious if you're able to take a measurement from the crank pulley centerline up to the top of the supercharger casing, just to get an idea on the overall height of the engine given it required spacers for the clearance of the pulleys to make it fit proper.
Ive learned tons from watching your page thank you posting this stuff
Great video. Looking forward to more
Excellent video
I love that there's different types of music throughout the video not just the same thing the whole time, good touch
I would suspect that it wouldn't make much difference in peak numbers or anything but, I wonder if the longer runners under the blower and the added plenum volume in that throttle body elbow would make a noticable difference in throttle response and part throttle tq. I can't imagine that it could hurt. I am a little curious how the injector spray pattern would work with the injectors shooting into straight into the runners rather than being angled down the port. I have seen where Kasse had good results angling the injectors up the in the ports on a test. Looks like you did some great work as usual and I am definitely here to see it.
Yeah. If I had it to do over again, I would have angled them down some. It only seems to have little issues when the air speed is low.
So glad that you mentioned uncle scam hasn't figured out how to tax the air. LOL, it's a great reminder to everyone out there. Great video, love the machine work. That was a lot of time consuming drilling and tapping, Awesome job! I used to have a Pontiac sunbird 4 speed manual I drove in college, was a great little car until a full size van side swiped me and cut the car in half. taillights were touching passenger side door. I really liked that car, and the mechanic i bought it from took meticulous care of it. I want another one now. Thanks for that, and a Yugo, ha ha.
I see a hot rod Lark and I automatically hit 👍🏼 Then I watch the video and like it even more👍🏼👍🏼
I love this car as is, it's almost perfect.(a few more HP!)
One pulley change away.
Love it brother, your a innovator not an imitator. Good job man that thing sounds great. I look at life the same way Innovate and be proud and leave a legacy. As a Man OR Woman that`s all we have at the end of the day. Our words and convictions and what we contribute to society. I could not imagine not working or living off of someone else`s money. I will never live off the Gov. If you can work and you have a brain you to can leave your legacy on the world as well. Find something your good at and put it on YT. And you too will become a contributor. You build it they will come!! The money is going to run out very soon for people that don`t contribute anything to our society You need skills to make it or you will be SOOL. Peace out.
Your thermostat housing is now a Fiero style
Fantastic project, fantastic result, fantastic car and a fantastic channel!
If I was to make any suggestions, the only thing I could come up with would be to try and make a new iteration of the 180* exhaust manifold but keep all 8 runners the exact same length.
Will sound even better and make even more power.
Keep doing what you do, it makes for great CZcams content 👍
That sounds awesome
Love the headers
I love going fast you change one thing you change everything...😅😅😅
This thing is badass
I'll see if I can find it, but years back someone stuffed a 1uz in a celica I believe, put an eaton on it and built 180 degree headers. I believe the drive did a feature. If I can find it, I'll post the link
www.youtube.com/@markstoys11/videos
I couldn't find the review/feature video... but I did find the guys channel itself.
@@thomasmaymnardwhat is it?
For a second i thought you were putting this on the inline engine
Government is now trying to regulate the price of air just from this video alone! ❤ you can always do the upside down header then add the turbo and do a ramhorn turbo which would give you plenty of degrees in turns for your turbo exhaust
Dude... that TKX is going to leave the chat... mark my words lol.
I hope you are wrong. I've heard a lot of folks having good luck with them.
@@Calvin-Nelson I hope I'm wrong too!
Oh oh oh, the beauty of a milling machine... Hahaha.😅
I really hope you get this back.
Rev three times; There's No Place like Home, There's No Place like Home. Best wishes for a happy reunion
super cool man 🙂
Now I wanna hear an R3 Lark with 180 degree headers.
This guys channel will blow up
It hasn't yet despite the awesome work.
If you're looking for another Studebaker there's one on marketplace in SW Florida. Almost the same colors too
I'm not sure if I saw it right. But I might be raining on your parade by pointing out the location of where you put your coolant temp sensor. It's in the part below the thermostat so it reads the engine side temp before reading the radiator side. So you may or may not run into some closed loop fueling issues or inaccuracies in coolant temp before the thermostat opens because of it being above it rather than below it. Otherwise, it seems like a pretty sweet unit 👍
I moved it from the factory location which is below the thermostat to above the thermostat. I haven't noticed any issues at all either way.
@@Calvin-Nelson Fair enough. I just didn't know if by changing the location it would cause any issues. You may not know until you get some miles on it. I was just more or less letting you know it could cause some issues with fueling. But it would only be during the time of first start up until the thermostat opens. The temp sensor is below the thermostat to see the engine temp, not the radiator temp.
But as long as it works, then there isn't much of an issue 😅 I was just making an observation 👍
that sound NASTY 😍
What a stude.
First, I definitely thought that would have been a heavier car! My daily hot rod is 3280 with me and subwoofers in it.
For only making less than 5psi that's not a bad gain! I love the work you do. Always looks good all while being home built! I wish my cars looked half as good! But zip ties work, lol.
If you have read this far maybe you can answer a question for me. My daily has a small turbo on it that I'm leaning on pretty hard. Making about 25psi and 300whp out of a 1.8 4 cylinder with a 9.5:1 compression, well new. Doing a compression test results in 75psi on all 4. It's tired and I have a built engine just no time to install it. Anyway... Exhaust back pressure, is it possible to use an analog boost gauge to measure it? I really don't want to spend a couple hundred dollars on something I've went this long without but I feel like it's something I should look at.
4PSI Sounds more like he has a boost leak
Do it.
I like the youtube video mill upgrade 😂
I use headphones and the phone sits away from the mill, don't went to wreck the screen.
"It just needs to be customized a bit." That's where most builds go to die, but you keep chugging along
sweet car
Wish i had the gas money id show up and say hello.. Have great runs!~
Holy sheet. Awesome. More people need to do 180 headers!
So the supercharger and 180 headers isnt a common thing on the interweb? That explains why Im only now hearing the true song of my people.
I used a early 90s Honda Civic radiator for the heat exchanger on my LSA swap. The aftermarket aluminum ones may be small enough to work for your setup.
Yeah. I have plenty of room. Just ran out of time.
I can't wait until you get that blower speed up, and i'm interested to see the torque curve from 2800 - 6500 with those monster heads. I was wondering about the injector placement though, Is it because of the pressurized air in the intake that you're able to point them almost directly at the outside of the intake adapter wall? I've always thought injector height and angle were critical to timing because of heat and atomization properties. Is there a way to run them on the outside of the adapter at a steeper angle? Anyways, you're killin it, thanks for your awesome videos, and I'm hopeful that you'll have more Northstar content soon.
i would love to see a vortec 3500 build PLEASE BUILD A 5 CYLINDER
The FI is what it is, but seems to be inefficient unless they really atomize extremely well. it would have been nearly impossible to do them at an angle it seems. neat project anyway, the work done is fantastic. more than I would want to tinker into even if I had your facilities! That car weights little too! Just need to put some bigger drag wheels on the back and some rake! :D
Would love to see the follow up with something like twice the boost for 550hp er so.
Do you know that lt4 uses titanium valves I didn't know this, I wonder why they don't rev too high I think the supercharger chokes it at high rpm or the exhaust is too restricted or the factory springs/lifters suck
Commenting for support.
Keep the killer content comin'!!
Thanks bud!
My first thought was, if you had started with a Gen 5 6.2L, you would have already been at 405WHP power. But I suppose you haven't turned the screws up yet, there should be more in there.
I just hope you won't have to take the engine apart to do ring gaps.
I already opened up the ring gaps.
Grm 2kx$ is how i found out bout you legends! Bout 20 years ago I started going to circle track swap meets with my pizza delivery money to go fast cause of you guys! One day ill make it down to FL for the grm2k
This is such a rad little car! Nice work. I would love to see it in person one day.
My vote for next upgrade would be 4.125" block sleeves with either LT1/LT4 OEM Cylinder heads (or a pair of L8T Heads as they are essentially LT1/L86 heads that come with Inconel Exhaust valves as oem equipment). Time for a heavy breathing big valve 388cid.
Unfortunately, that probably will never happen. The car was stolen from me along with my truck and trailer.
Wow the theives knew exactly where you were gonna be
Let’s go!!!
Do you foresee any fueling issues the way that the injector nozzles are pointing?
Love your work brother
Is it water intercooled? Did you try adding some ice or making a cold ram air intake for lower iat
I hope you vacuumed all the tap shavings couldn’t tell.
It'd be interesting to see if the ZL1 blower cover makes more power or changes IATs
I bet it would!
I hope a pully swap fits for you
It does and it's done. Lol
Cool
love the content man. the quality is excellent every single time man
Thanks!
I am sure that you will get her really screaming sooner than later, my nephew rebuilt a 2019 Vette and by changing the cam and a little port work and pully changes she made 1100 hp of course the Vette has a few more cubes
Mo powa! Heck yeah
What video were you watching on the mill when you were doing the injector holes?
Cleetus McFarland
Oh man! now u said it,tax the air! Don't given them more ideas please 😶
Awesome! 👍
Can’t wait till you get some pulleys. Make that sucker scream! What psi are you shooting for? Are the internals ready for 12-16 psi? lol. 🤘🤘👏👍
Honestly, I only want enough to go a 10.00. what will limit me is the injectors.
More of a power to weight thing… maybe like 550 whp get it done? @@Calvin-Nelson
You could always run turbos into the blower.
How would that work?
I’d be interested in turbos connected to this, “180 degree” header.. wonder if it could help things like MAP, exhaust scavenging, etc etc.. ???
Me too, perhaps we will do that someday.
Damn, finding a new channel with a new upload??
Is it Christmas or something?? 🤔😂🤝
Better late than never!
@@Calvin-Nelson I got the bell turned on so I sure as hell won't be late again 🤣🤝
Can you stack the Harrop injector adaptor on top of the ICT Billet supercharger adaptors?
Probably.
Check your idler pulley for how much resistance is present, there may be free hp there. ALthough the increase is very good. This is to the wheels people ought to understand that more. 53HP is very substantial to the wheels at this power level it is noticable. I would be happy with 350 wheel horsepower in some cars. This is a good amount of power that can transmit well through tires to the ground for some very good performance. Those people scoffing 53 hp to the wheels know not anything about real world performance and even mpg in cars. A wheel measurement of any horsepower and torque increase would be an improvement. Also they do not understand the torque increase throughout the entire curve must be quite substantial to have made a 53 peak horsepower improvement. i bet it has boosted engine output level across the entire rpm band above the original curves. Well great car and hope people learn from this when they get spanked by your stude because they think it didn't make any power. Lol. Laterz.
