  • Freiburger and Dulcich add V-8 power to their red 1971 Plymouth Duster, whose seized slant-six had seen better days. With the addition of the V-8, four-speed, a beefier new rear end, and a handful of other repairs, the guys get the Red Duster back on the road and rescue another vehicle from themselves.

    As a ford guy it's still refreshing seeing motor swaps that aren't ls swaps demon motor swaps

    • @davidgalea6113
      @davidgalea6113 Před 4 měsíci +2

      Fellow ford guy here and 100% agree. So many of the youtube car channels do the ls swap or the modern mopar crate engine.. another problem is most channels are heavily focused on chevy/mopar (like vice grip garage or uncle Tony garage or stay tuned) very little ford content..

    • @timothycarey3883
      @timothycarey3883 Před 4 měsíci

      There is good reason for that older sbf and big block ford are way too expensive and still end up inferior, thats why most old fords are chevy swapped. Ford did finally catch up with the coyote so the ford content is growing, but still not nearly as many cool old fords, mopar and especially gm made way more cool bodies to hot rod.@@davidgalea6113

      Yeah literally, even though that 5.9 sounds like junk I can appreciate them getting the car going with at least some sort of unique and correct brand V8, wish old cars were in that decent of shape in northern BC Canada I’d be having somethin cooler than an SN95 as a project 😂

    • @twotailedavenger

      Yeah, about the only Ford stuff you see getting swapped into cars is either every last Mustang II getting harvested for its front suspension to put in a Deuce Coupe, or everybody and their mother running a nine-inch.

    • @davidgalea6113
      @davidgalea6113 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Anyone can do this stuff even you can, especially on classic cars . welding, painting, bodywork, mechanical , engine building etc etc all you need is to buy some tools and some technical magazines or shop manuals to guide you. Most car guys like myslef learn by just doing it and by trail and error. If you are in the USA you are even luckier than me because you have access to plentiful classic cars tons of junkyard v8 engines lots of parts availability... here in Europe we have none of that, took me ages to get ahold of an American v8 4speed classic car but where there's a will there a way..

    On the freeze plug topic I actually had an Oldsmobile Toronado big block when I lived in Yakima Washington and if it hadn't been for the freeze plug the block would have cracked. It was a waterfall block of ice coming out of the hole.

Not to mention somehow the plug wires were on wrong.

    It's called the soft plug or a freeze plug and yes it can pop out when the water freezes in the block. I have seen it happen many times. If you found one bad one then you should replace all of them while you have it sitting there and easily accessible. It's about $25.00 worth of insurance. You should take all of them out and do a complete power flush what's a garden hose or a pressure washer.
    Cartridge roll the hole and seal the new soft plug with Permatex 3H

    Brings back memories , back in the late 90's I acquired a very clean 71' 6cyl Duster and swapped in a 383 big block, kept the 6cyl torsion bars, replaced the A-body K member with a V8 style and used standard stock BB motor mounts, the only real issue was the "new at the time" 1 3/4" headers as there fit was not good, had to use a new style mini starter but several of the pipes around the steering box had to be altered. it was a fun project and eventually traded the Duster for a paint job on my 440 Challenger.....thanks Glen that was a great paint job.

    I'm working on swapping a 5.7 hemi into a 72 duster and I'm curious what you (or anyone) might recommend for a fuel pump and drive shaft? I'm keeping the efi as of right now.
