  • hosted by Dabney Coleman, this was the precursor to the annual Aspen Comedy Festival with comedians Jeff Marder, John Mulrooney, Don Reed, Fred Stoller, and the hilarious Dennis Wolfberg (R.I.P.) At this stage in my career, just happy to be working for another cable channel,,,but really not looking forward to the slot of opening the show...but they flew you to fucking Aspen for Christ's sake, lifestyles of the rich and famous and all that. It's a long time ago and my sweater make me look Biafrian (may have been vegetarian back then...but I would fill that motherfucker out now, that's for sure. Dennis Wolfberg is so damn funny and his delivery and cadence and command of the english language is the full package....just absorb every moment of this gem of a performer taken away far, far, far too early. Oooh, I can taste my Lunesta. Enjoy ya'll JCM

This guy was one of the funniest of all time during this era. Just a classy, clean, intelligent, highly animated, hilarious human being. RIP Dennis. You were so gifted.

exproskier - so true. I was in this special and I'll never forget how immensely kind he was BESIDES being that hilarious. We worked out a lot together at Igby's in LA

"I've got the Chrysler Building in me!" Dennis was truly one of a kind. My father had this special on VHS, and I watched it so many times I wore the tape out. I still randomly quote "college ga-ga-ga-wah" and "Anyway..."

1989 was indeed a banner year for comedy and it was an honor to appear on "The Mondo Variety Show" with host Jeff Marder that year. I was the one who handfarted the themes from "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Green Acres". 10 years later the legendary Smokey Robinson would open for me on "The Donny & Marie Show". He did 55 minutes, I did the last 5.

Listening to Patrice O'Neal name Dennis Wolfberg as his favorite working comedian that he ever saw live in person on "Patrice O'Neal on O&A #71 - Asleep At The Wheel" brought me here. I was pleasantly surprised to hear such a variety of talent.

I remember watching this in the 80's. Damn, revisiting this, the very first comic brings up TWO seminal ideas from Forrest Gump. "Life is like a box of Chocolates" and "Shit Happens". Did this guy work on the script?

John Mulrooney, and Dennis Wolfberg were easily the 2 funniest comics. John's jokes about the Irish never conquering anything, and his family, especially his old dog, were the most hilarious, while Dennis Wolfberg's jokes about Fibre one cereal, and the rigid sigmoidoscopy keeps me in stitches. Don Reid who should team up with Michael Winslow on stage at the same time, easily placed third, while Jeff Madder, and Fred Stiller finished fourth, and fifth respectively.

Did Jeff Marder just say "life is like a box of chocolates"? 5 years before the movie Forest Gump came out.

Hey Jeff, did Cosby steal that, "Oh, God. Oh, Baby," bit from you? Because I heard him do a somewhat extended version of that in the mid-to-late 90s.
Also, it's very easy to see what might have been the origin of Craig Shoemaker's "Love Master" character in John Mulrooney's set, right at 24:35.
