VHS tapes degrade after several decades. So in both an effort of preservation and to prove to my kids I actually smiled at one time...
Your American Pop Quiz
One of three test pilots for 20th Century Fox Television, 1996. At the time the show tested well and Fox wanted to roll it out on their virtually unknown sister cable station, FX. The producers insisted on network (Fox) in an access time slot. You don't tell Fox what to do!
(P.S. Of the three, this may not be the 'funniest' but the game play is quite solid)

Marder At Midnight Part One ABC Late Night Pilot
zhlédnutí 151Před 10 lety
ABC sponsored three late night pilots in '89. This was one of them. It tested well but ABC opted to air Rick Dee's Into The Night instead for two years. Sorry about that! Ridiculously fortunate to have had the opportunity to create this hybird...
1989 Showtime Aspen Comedy Festival
zhlédnutí 33KPřed 11 lety
hosted by Dabney Coleman, this was the precursor to the annual Aspen Comedy Festival with comedians Jeff Marder, John Mulrooney, Don Reed, Fred Stoller, and the hilarious Dennis Wolfberg (R.I.P.) At this stage in my career, just happy to be working for another cable channel,,,but really not looking forward to the slot of opening the show...but they flew you to fucking Aspen for Christ's sake, l...

Jeff Marder: Evening At The Improv Bert Convy Host
zhlédnutí 467Před 13 lety
Must be an early career taping because I was only using one microphone and my waist looks to be about 28". Well, Bert Convy, as good as a guy as he appears, is long gone...and so is that waistline. I do, however, mention 'Atlantis' and Morton Downey Jr.
Jeff Marder: Evening At The Improv Robert Conrad host

Robert Conrad, James West! from The Wild Wild West. I grew up watching him. He was so nervous in rehearsals, that I actually say to him as we shake hands on my approach to the stage is: 'Now you can go pee'. I imitate a black guy poorly....
Jeff Marder: Evening At The Improv Roger E. Mosley Host
zhlédnutí 224Před 13 lety
Aired on A & E Network. Did a total of 8 of these shows. Roger Mosley was a regular on Magnum P.I with Tom Selleck. Budd Friedman, tough guy to break...really good guy inside. Some new material from the single microphone side. Many blessings.
Jeff Marder: VH-1 Stand Up Spotlight Rosie O'Donnell Ho
zhlédnutí 849Před 13 lety
The end roll credits with just some clowning around between Rosie and myself. Stupid sh*t, but these were simpler times and all of us were just happy to be cataloging our stand-up to post on the internet which didn't exist then.

Just the two-microphone segment of another VH1 spot proving that I actually wrote material other than what's been posted so far...and that Rosie looked really good with a beret. Don't know the year but we tucked in our shirts back then.
Marder At Midnight Part One ABC Late Night Pilot

ABC developed three pilots for a late night show. Mine was one of them. They opted to go with Rick Dee's Into The Night. I apologize for that! Still, not many get the chance for a project such as this and I was blessed with the opportunity.
Jeff Marder The Late Show with Arsenio Hall

This was my 2nd appearance on Arsenio and it wasn't good. What was kinda' cool is I tried something conceptual from the panel about singers going back for an encore but not comics. They ain't all gems, this is proof.

1989 Showtime Comedy Special from Aspen, Colorado. R.I.P. Dennis Wolfberg, you made me laugh my ass off. Dabney Coleman, good guy. Some material repeated from other shows, but some different lines and bits here and there.

What an amazing nugget of trash. Thanks so much for posting.
Hey Jeff Just watched your HBO special 😂😂 How are you these days? Are in still in Cali? My good friend Tony Valentine would really enjoy catching up with you Take care
Thanks so much for posting this. I’m the kid in the segment with Gene and Capt Frank Adams. So many great memories.
ABC messed up picking Rick Dees. I heard he sucked as a talk show host
Jeez... this guy is so hilarious and the room is dead.... RIP DENNIS... you are unique and irreplaceable
I have not even heard of these peopke!
You probably would have had to change the title to Jeff Marder or The Jeff Marder Show to avoid confusion in Central Time Zones. Like for instance if it is midnight In New York it is 11 in Chicago
This was taped in 1993 and the internet was actually in development at the time. Hell, prodigy was in existence!
Is that Leeza Gibbons announcing?
That should have made it. Rick Dees' show was a bust
All 5 comedians are awesome! But Dabney Coleman really sucks. Somebody ought to tie him up & leave him in the exec. chair fr. 9 to 5.
Tony looks like Charlie Robinson who played Mac on Night Court.
The Hudson Brothers should have taken what they could get. I like this better than No Relation. The show that FX had at the time.
Bill Bradley would lose that year in reelection.
They got itt wrong. It was the 1962 governor's election not 1964
Would have been good for syndication
Chris looks like Miles Silverberg!
Dennis had me in stiches so many times. I miss his routines. RIP
I had this recorded on a Betamax back in 89. Great show, good to see it again. Love Dennis! Great history here.
1989 was indeed a banner year for comedy and it was an honor to appear on "The Mondo Variety Show" with host Jeff Marder that year. I was the one who handfarted the themes from "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Green Acres". 10 years later the legendary Smokey Robinson would open for me on "The Donny & Marie Show". He did 55 minutes, I did the last 5.
Brilliant
You should've cut this right before you went to get the second mic and had part 2 start with that.
Hey Jeff, did Cosby steal that, "Oh, God. Oh, Baby," bit from you? Because I heard him do a somewhat extended version of that in the mid-to-late 90s. Also, it's very easy to see what might have been the origin of Craig Shoemaker's "Love Master" character in John Mulrooney's set, right at 24:35.
"I've got the Chrysler Building in me!" Dennis was truly one of a kind. My father had this special on VHS, and I watched it so many times I wore the tape out. I still randomly quote "college ga-ga-ga-wah" and "Anyway..."

Are you related to Barry Marder?
You'd think Jeff wrote the script for Forrest Gump.
Like Richard Jeni, same era, he fell into relative obscurity despite his national exposure. In Jeni's routines, I heard lines and concepts used in "Married With Children". In Marder's, lines from Forrest Gump. Ghost writers, paid script consultants or coincidence? I hope Jeff's happy, great set. As for the pope, probably in Nice...France.
I watched this 29 years ago and I still remember the fast food joke.
Putting it in an access time slot means going up against Wheel or Jeopardy
And some Fox stations aired both. i know that WBRC which had just become a Fox affiliated aired Wheel at 6:30.
I remember watching this in the 80's. Damn, revisiting this, the very first comic brings up TWO seminal ideas from Forrest Gump. "Life is like a box of Chocolates" and "Shit Happens". Did this guy work on the script?
Jeff, to this day I stamp my foot and whisper "hurry" because of this.
More cowbell.
Not only does this man hold no grudges, he actually got me a job writing on the Dees show for summer fill-in host Brad Garrett. Thank you, sir.
I remember watching your stand-up and laughing so hard my tummy ached. Those were the days. I miss them so much. Comedy just isn’t the same anymore.
LOL Tripping down memory lane. Jeff, you look so young. 👏👏👏👏🤣😂👍
49:08 they are Jewish Not Jew it is a big difference if you are a Jewish it is a religion if you are a Jew you come from Africa he does not look any parts African LOL
I thought Don Reed did a great job with the Kung Fu ... That was too funny
RIP Dennis who also played "Guschi" on Quantum Leap.
8:54 Muddy Mudskipper!
Dennis is just great. Too bad he passed. RIP
This was the first special that I watched over and over again. Had it on VHS, played it to friends. So memorable. This made me fall in love with stand up, impressions, and WTF one liners. Bravo Jeff thank you.
That was great! I probably saw it back then... wow, got to be on Johnny! 😊
Great material.. 👍🏼
Nice hair,Jeff😊
Also Harris Peet ftw.
Shame this wasn't picked up. It's still a pretty cool pilot though.
Wow! This is like finding Walter White's stash! I remember this special. Where have you been?
