  • Here's my experience adding a rotary to the fiber laser for use with EzCad2. I ran into one issue where the wiring wasn't what I expected and had to make a change, but seems to be working fine.
    This is the link to Peter Verdone's website for his documentation of the full process of selecting components and wiring the rotary. It's an easy to follow post with lots of good pictures and diagrams: www.peterverdone.com/laser-acc...
    The wiring diagram photo used in this video which pointed out pins 4 and 5 on the DB15 connector of the JCZ board were internally connected 5V+ pins was posted by Viktor Zsigrai in a fiber laser facebook group.

    Can you add a link to the chuck assembly from where you ordered it?

      @jefferyj  Před 4 lety +2

      Sure, here's the link: www.rattm-motor.com/ruseu-shipcnc-4th-axis-a-aixs-rotary-axis3-jaw-chuck-100mm-k11-100mm-tailstock-for-mini-cnc-routerwoodworking-engraving-p2051571.html
      It came with a tailstock and alternate set of jaws. It was fulfilled by Amazon and arrived in about 5 days or so. If you're going to order from that site, I'd advise you make an account as their order system is a little shaky; I never received an order confirmation email and the paypal invoice was basically blank. No issues otherwise.

    Thank you for putting up this video and the link to Peter’s website. I just got a fiber laser and rotary and this saved me countless hours of research and a fair amount of hair pulling. I had the same issue with the 5v+ being a - and in the same spot, even though my documentation said it was a +. I ended up putting the stepper drive right under the 5v power supply and it fits perfectly. I am going to screw it down tomorrow. I clipped out the 5 pin connector that was on the back of my enclosure (that was a nerve wracking 5 wires to snip, even though I knew I could solder them back together if needed!) and replaced it with the 4 pin connector that goes to our rotary. Now I just need to do all the setup in EZCad and start testing the rotary!

    I just got my 30w Laser last week from Aliexpres. Thank you for your videos and really appreciate the time you take to make these educational vids for our laser.
    I installed the rotary assembly and been testing it out to engrave powder coated cups.
    I'm having issues with ghosting where for example my diameter is 84.5mm and my split is set for 5mm and hatch to the Spiral setting at 0.5mm spacing.
    What happens to my logo that is about 75mm x 75mm ring (5mm thick) w/ txt Enveloped inside, while its engraving lest say the 3rd split/5mm section, the laser goes out and burns up to the 10th split ring therefore being distorted because its not focused or rotated yet to that area.
    I notice this happening more when I use the spiral and less often when just using the Straight line 0deg Hatch.
    I'm at v2.14.10 Ezcad. This laser has messed up 3 good cups already.

    Hey Jeffrey thanks for the vids. very well done. Concise, accurate no bs and most importantly, NO INTRO, a waste of time. A ? if you will, I have a 30w fiber rice burner that does pretty good but seems most things I would like to work on are bigger than the field area. I looked through your vids hoping to find one showing how to continue a mark on a large piece. I haven't had much luck continuing a hatch without a definitive line showing at the "joint". Excuse my ignorance if its a simple process but is there a way to possibly "fade" a continued hatch? maybe a setting that would suffice? any help would be appreciated. I wanted to add this,, You seem to be the GO TO Guy for All that is Fiber Laser. Very Cool of you to do these videos by the way. This is my two cents. if you did a real start to finish set of videos about Lasers I think it would be a MEGA HIT!!! I see all the time peeps asking how to order, what to order, what options, what power for what metal, nothing to in depth but quick tips so they can look and get answers. Then setting it up out of box and then setting Ezcrash up. That is a big one. I have watched a few of your videos and the settings are hard to see and sometimes go by so fast i have to rewind a lot to get them. most everything i have is totally different than yours, I don't know why. also the rotary video was great but then the ezcrash part went really fast and there was very little detail on the whys of settings, if other lasers from drop down can be used and for what. I never got mine to work. I tried my setting, your setting and others setting i saw on line but it never worked. i have heard that the Knock off boards may be the cause of that but not sure. any way thank you again for these and I hope to see more in the Future about Ezcrash and rotary.
    ps there are a ton of CRAP ROTARY videos on youtube. I have searched many many times. if you search "fiber laser rotary" , "laser rotary" this video doesn't come up in the search. it is not at all or in related to Laser rotary search for some reason. just FYI if you can add tags so it will come up for more peeps searching so they find you and not the 100 craps videos in chinese on here that are worthless.

I'll probably make another video on the rotary to actually talk about settings since I didn't go over it here.

      The stepper drive was necessary as it wasn't included with my machine. Some people may have it already with theirs. Love your videos Jeffery! I just got a 50W Fiber laser and have Ezcad2 set up. When I power up the laser everything works fine, I create a shape or Text on Ezcad and when I light it I can see it (even though it's kind of blurry) but whenever I click 'Mark" it just loads for a second and then goes away. When I click 'continuous mark' it makes a louder noise like it's trying to mark it but really the red light is just flashing the shape on the metal and that's it. I've tried raising and lowering the laser to focus it but it still isn't actually marking the material. Please help and thank you for any tips!

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  Před 4 lety

      Few questions: I assume you set the marking mode to 'continuous' and ran the Z axis all the way up and down to find the correct focal length at the loudest point? After that, when you set your text on the ezcad workspace, did you apply a hatch to your object so the laser is filling in your text and not just marking the text outline? That might be why the 'mark' screen loads and disappears so quickly.

      @daveearles7692 Před 4 lety +1

      We do vectors on the rotary all the time to make precision measuring dials. Using Splitmark2 from under the laser menu has given us the best results so far. There are probably other ways to get a similar result but this way works for us

      @shenyangfaithkiki9768 Před 3 lety

      Hi,At this time, it is necessary to investigate the source of the interference effect of the external power grid fluctuation on the galvanometer. You can try whether the lines scanned by the indicator light are wavy lines when the laser power driver is not turned on. After confirming that there is no interference in the preceding steps, start the laser power supply first to see if the wave phenomenon occurs. Then gradually increase the output power of the laser power supply and observe the traced lines. Finally, turn on the acousto-optical drive and observe it. It is basically possible to determine where the interference comes from at which step the wave phenomenon occurs. After finding the source of the interference, come to think of a solution to the interference.

      You may have a different stepper drive. Open the case and trace the pins back to find out where the wires connect. I've seen lasers pre wired wth 4 pins on the back of the case which corresponded to the 4 motor wires. In that case, the stepper was already installed.

In setting up the motor in ezcad2, i saw that you made the steps to 12800. Mine says it is set to 10000 on the driver but, the lettering comes out stumpy so I did some adjustments and set it to 45000 and it looks just like what I see on the computer. Not sure if its ok to do that or if it will shorten the motor life. Like to hear your opinion.

    Just wondering if you know anyone who changed the laser source. I got a feeling my source went bad. The laser lost power and within a minute or two it went out. I got refunded by the seller and I still have the machine. So I'd like to buy a 30w fiber laser source and install it. I've checked the power source and that seems ok. Got a new board and that did nothing so I'm thinking it's the laser source itself.

    Hello Jeffrey! Why the rotary stretches the logo on a ring? 💦 I tried different Ezcad operations (Ring Text Mark; Rotate Text Mark; Split Mark2) but they don't give me a straight result. 💦 💦 I activate the rotary with ↑ ↓ arrows in Split Mark and the device works (rotates). However, when it comes to the ring engraving, the rotary doesn’t rotate at all. 💦 💦 💦 I entered Part Diameter and other numbers as in a youtube tutorial, but pointless. 💦 💦 💦 💦 What is wrong? Did I connect the rotary to the laser (30W) somehow wrong... or is my mistake in Ezcad?

    • @darja_popolitova

      Is it possible that I by mistake connected PUL- and DIR- incorrectly? Would the rotary even spin if PUL- and DIR- is mixed up? At the moment it spins but leaves gaps or spins too much.

    Hi Jeffery, I have one question and don't know personally anybody who can answer this.
    I recently aquired a 30watts fiber laser similar to yours, with a raycus laser source. In the specification of the laser says that 30 watts laser can't go lower than 30khz, but mine can go down to 20khz with ezcad, so I suspect it's actually a 20 watts laser. Can your 30watts laser work with 20khz or is locked to 30khz?? Thanks a lot.

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  Před 3 lety +1

      Often, ezcad will let you enter numbers that your hardware can't use. You can restrict this range in the parameters menu. It doesn't necessarily mean anything's amiss. If you open your case, you should be able to see the specs of your laser source to confirm it's a 30w.

    • @eid0eid0
      @eid0eid0 Před 3 lety

      @@jefferyj thx for the answer, I opened the outer case the day it came but the label with the watts was not there or perhaps was in the hidden side.
      The thing is that in the raycus datasheet they tell that a signal below 30khz as input is not allowed, but with my machine the 20khz is the strongest lasing I can do by far. Perhaps I should limit to 30khz in ezcad if the laser is really 30watts, as pulses with more than one 1 mJul can be dangerous for the mirrors too. Can you confirm me that you can lase with 20Khz with your 30w machine??
      Thx a lot

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  Před 3 lety
