EZCAD2 Tip: MultiFileMark & I/O Controls

  • If you have a substantial quantity of multi sided parts to laser mark, or if you find it necessary to regularly re position the part during marking, this video might save you a little time. There are a few ways to program a pause into a marking routine. The Multifilemark feature applies to me as I mark batches of 50-100 double sided anodized aluminum parts on a fixture (3 at a time). The layout for this marking is held in two separate files. With multifilemark, I'm able to load both EZD files for the front side AND the back side at the same time and mark them in sequence with a single flip rather than having to unload and reload the same parts.
    In the course of playing with these features, I did notice my foot pedal isn't very good (I haven't ever bothered to use it prior to this point). It's far too sensitive and can trigger marking if it's merely nudged. I'll probably have to replace it for a few dollars on ebay.

    Oh gosh! Something similar to this may solve my Low Memory, crashing and file clearing scenario. I have pretty finely detailed hatch file and once they reach 20mb or so, they’re unreliable. Where I need 4 sets of all three hatches, rotating the angle to assure cleanout, I can only run one at a time, manually adjusting the angle/degree. (Not by my computer right now.) I want to be able to run all four, ideally stacking them, but EZCad can’t handle it. Maybe four separate files run similar to this would work. I need it to run while I’m not sitting there for the hour of time. I’ll have to watch this again from a bigger screen to see how it can work without the need of a foot pedal. Thank you!

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  Před 5 lety

      An hour of marking and 20mb? That's a pretty serious file. I haven't tried it with anything that large, but sounds like it should work in theory.

      Hmmm... Darn. I don’t have a foot pedal connected. Ideally I want them to auto run one after another. Tried a couple things. Way tooo late,/early. Will look again tomorrow/today. Unless you know? And thanks for your help. As it stands this may still save me some time and hassle.

  • @xxx1eoxxx
    @xxx1eoxxx Před 2 lety

    DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR 5HE FOLLOWING:
    Let's say you have a file with multiple tiny hatches, and you are using the resort option so it stagger them when marking. If I use the loop option (example 5 passes), it will do the 5 passes on a tiny hatch before moving to the next hatch. The problem is that it heats up the piece too much. I need for EZCRASH to do one full pass (mark all the hatches), before it goes to the next loop.
    Thanks!

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  Před 4 lety

      I made this video in response to a question about how to mark multiple files without loading them manually. I cheated a little bit to make use of them with the foot pedal, but multi file mark is a much simpler solution. The I/O controls aren't really for this and I've never really used them. I believe they're for expanding the setup with external components like sensors, conveyors, cameras, etc.

    I'm looking into buying a similar machine for marking objects that are 60*1200mm. What is your advice on size of the machine for my use? I mean, with these I/O options it would be possible to make a moving table or a conveyor and split the design into multiple objects and move the conveyor between each marking. But should I go for 100x100 or 200x200? Would you buy the same size and power again if you were to start from scratch? Thankful for any advice

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  Před 5 lety

      The smaller your field, the more power you will have. If I were to buy again, I'd probably get a 30w with a 200mm and 100mm field lens and I would likely use the 200mm for the vast majority of my marking. I almost never really need depth, but it would be nice to have the 30w with a 100x100 combination just in case. That said, my 20w with 150mm field lens meets my needs and I've been satisfied with it.

      @@jefferyj, thanks for your fast response, and thanks for your excellent videos on these lasers and the software. I had been wondering about whether I could hack this machine to control it externally but this video really showed that it is already made to be controlled by external inputs. I will go for 30W and 200 lens and a moving table for marking longer objects. Thanks!

    Jeffery thanks for you videos - We have to engrave 4,500 painted bottles and have to do two passes, one to take of the paint and the second to polish it. Is there a way to automate this without having to change the setting on each bottle?

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  Před 4 lety +1

      Sure you can do this a few different ways. The easiest would be to just set up a hatch 1 and hatch 2 using different pens and line spacing.
      If you wanted more control over the timing of the passes, a more complicated way would be to duplicate the artwork and set it to overlap in the ezcad workspace then apply the appropriate settings to each object - then use i/o controls to cycle through the two objects in the object list just like I did in the video.
