@Mic Rophone Have you considered that guys like Olivia continued to juice throughout their lives? Once you abuse steroids for many years, your hormonal levels are messed up forever and no way can you look good without the juice.
25 years ago Yates looked even more impressive, there had never been someone like him. I remember watching those black and white photos with my friends in the gym. We were speechless.
So what r u saying, that he would have won all natty cause his training was so intensive? Get a grip. The roids packed 60% of the mass, just look at the post roid shrinkage these dudes experience. It's watching something melt under the sun. Synthetic hormones are extremely potent and its MUCH easier to train super hard when you have truck pulling you up the hill, the latter is how Dorian explained the juice, he's been quite honest about the advantages of roids. I train hard ALL natty, the roiders wouldn't last a second in my world cause they can't even go to the gym without the roids. I know many pro's and they just quite cause they are not able to put in the effort natty. I've been at it all natty since 1985 myself and I've seen so many juicers come an go. They are roid warriors.
As I wrote I've been at it all natty since 1985. I know what gym life is all about. I've seen so many juicers come an go. I don't respect their "efforts" - as a matter of fact it takes much more to do it all natty. I don't see the roiders at the bench press when they come off the juice, they don't have the ability to do it natty. No respect. Chemical gains are for rent.
And I say bullshit. Steroids may very well make you a champion. If your placing 15th cause your natty you CAN climb to number 1 if your willing to go all out and do whatever it takes chemically. I've seen that happen repeatedly. Synthetic hormones combined some diuretics makes ALL the difference in the world! That's why people take'em. As mentioned, I've been at it all natty since 1985. I know what gym life is all about. I don't respect roiders "efforts" - as a matter of fact it takes much more to do it all natty. Don't talk to me about dedication - dude.
HauntedOath That's a load of bollocks as well, I don't give a fuck if someone uses, it's called freedom of choice you mug and I respect that people choose to do roids to get what they want from their training.. And any issues he gets from his lifestyle, well, I guess he'll accept that as well because that's just how Shit goes. No one will remember a cunt like you and his self righteous comments. What I like about Dorian was he preached the same intensity that Mentzer without saying “this is the way you build muscle.” He understood that there’s multiple paths to the same outcome, but argued that his method was more efficient.

Typical internet forum warrior with basic 8-12 reps are hypertrophy. Cheers mate.
Dorian still seems to be in good health not like a lot of the others. Great podcast I watched the whole thing. Funny seeing his reaction to seeing himself lol.
they do not really shit on them they just point out how bodybuilding is not as functional or healthy as other forms of exercise.. Dorian even admits this during the podcast because it is true. If Joe gave Dorian any less than maximum respect on this podcast he would look foolish, this guy put more time and effort into his training than almost everyone else. Legend.
Dorian is one of the only bodybuilders who doesnt come off as pompous. Funny because he was one of the greatest to ever do it, but he wouldnt tell you that. Those pictures tell the story of his accomplishments. The man came into bodybuilding , trained like a madman, took the trophies, prize money and everything along the way then left with his health. The guy basically approached it like a business and he succeeded and then retired. He was smart to leave when he did, now he can live his life and pursue other things he enjoys. All the best to the man, may he live long and happy and thanks for giving the fans a glimpse of what pushing it to the limit was.
I think that's a factor too. A lot of the guys we see who are messed up or have passed away competed well into their 30s. Lee haney retired at 31, Ronnie didn't win til he was 35
I remember when I was 16 years old and started working out in 1983 and would always read muscle and fitness magazine and one of the pictures on the mirror wall that I created in my gym in the garage was Frank Zane! It was quite a surprise to see Dory and mention him!
I love D.Y. attitude~"there's nobody that can out work me in the gym mentality" which actually predates Kobe Bryant's "Mamba mentality" who has gone on record to say the same! D.Y. has always been one of my favorites because he tells the truth even about his own steroid use which most bodybuilders steer clear of these days, and goes into depth about why so many ex-body builders are dropping like flies(dying)because they didn't cycle on & off as he did and Dorian is a testament to this by being in great shape these days at the young age of 57!
DY is a lot smarter and mentally tougher than most bodybuilders! Ronnie Coleman probably worked just as hard as Dorian but he wasn't intelligent enough to decrease the amount of weights lifted during the final 12 weeks pre-competition!! That's why Dorian is relatively healthy now and Ronnie is confined to a wheelchair! It's a very fine line between getting bigger and injuring yourself!
@4:15 Yates "It's generally accepted the 90s were the peak of competitive physiques.." So true including other major sports; basketball, football, etc.
I was never a huge fan of DYs physique, but you can’t fault the man for intensity, focus, motivation and drive. A true come from nothing rags to riches story. Anyone who’s seen Blood and guts dvd knows what I’m talking about. NOONE trained like him. No one.
he's absolutely right- the modern bodybuilders are simply not the same standard. Nick Walker, Ramy, Curry, Choopan- none of them had the aesthetics, the conditioning, the balance of the earlier guys. Classic is the one to watch now.
I totally agree with what Dorian said about the 90s ... and that's also why he's my all time favorite bodybuilder ... mass, but combined with very beautiful (elegant) lines , conditioning, .. a very cool professional way of posing .. nowadays some bodybuilders dance or almost strip and move like girls ..
How did they not show his back and talk about it? Dorian is considered to have the best back of all time, that's what he was most famous for. You can see in the pictures how absolutely massive his delts are from the front
I used to do forearm work with dumbells. After watching this video, I abandoned it totally and did heavy deadlifts. My forearms grew really fast. Heavy dumbbells farmers walk too. The more grip strength you build the bigger the forearms grow.

Dorian hit the nail on the head about your body, it's such an amazing piece of equipment that it can develop the way it does
6 time Olympia Dorian Yates on Joe's podcast brings a tear to my eye. Thank you Joe.
The cool thing about these old school body builders is how humble they seem and at peace they are when they talk. Real men are rare.
Without doubt the best bodybuilder of all time
Shawn Ray, the little guy. Lol
progress_lover86 I fucking loved that
I knew him back in the day, Shawn was fucking huge in person , perfect physique
he had such a shit faced grin when joe called him a small guy lol
Joe is only 5'8 lol
To bad you cant say that to my face cause you'd be negative 6 foot lol
go and look at this dude training in the gym if u think its "just roids" lmao
The only people who defend steroid usage are the ones who use it.
If Yates wanted to be a 175lb natural he could have been. He didn't. He wanted to be a freak and didn't hurt any cunt in the process.. Apart from all the whining bitches in these threads. And any issues he gets from his lifestyle, well, I guess he'll accept that as well because that's just how Shit goes. No one will remember a cunt like you and his self righteous comments. Dorian will live on for Fucking centuries because of his achievements.. Now move along
This was so much fun to listen to. Yates has a great attitude...and holy moly, what an insane physique.
The more I hear Yates talk, the more I respect him. Comes across as a really good dude.
dadude7 same here. To be honest I was never a big fan of his physique but I find him really interesting to listen to. Quite inspirational actually.
I bet Dorian went for a smoke with Joe after
Mark rules Probably. If they both weren't baked already...😃
No way in hell. He needs to, but no way in hell.
Shr00mfairy Mcgee Dorian smokes man
Dorian Yates is a very humble man. Much respect to him.
What I like about Dorian was he preached the same intensity that Mentzer without saying “this is the way you build muscle.” He understood that there’s multiple paths to the same outcome, but argued that his method was more efficient.
Because dorian didn't try to promote his coaching and his friend's gym machines
I don’t think people can actually fathom the will power of this man and his level of pain tolerance. Don’t follow bb much but his work ethic is the reason he’s my fav bb of all time.
Considering how most guys end up ie Ronnie is wheelchair bound and Flex has an amputated leg, Dorian did well to get out with his health when he did.
Shawn Ray/Jay Cutler/Dennis Wolf/even Tom Platz all look super healthy today it's crazy.
Best example is Dexter Jackson. Most of his training is machines. Idiot Ronnie's was like 80% free weight
@@gencademi9362 Ronnie risked his body and did the free weights to become bigger than everyone else. and it got him 8 Mr. Olympias and arguably the greatest of all time. He's such a nice guy too and im sad to see the first thing you can call a person that's been through so many surgeries and so much pain for the sport he loves an idiot.
@@zukoshonor2457 no i love Ronnie to death. But you can't be doing 2 rep sets if your goal is hypertrophy. And yet after all the surgeries he still works out, that shit is just moronic
@@gencademi9362 Seriously you will tell Ronnie about training? Do you even know all paths to hypertrophy? Do you know role of central nervous system? Training for strength improves your CNS efficiency, means better inter/intra muscular coordination, means you will be able to lift more weight in hypertrophy regime/methods(drop sets, super sets, single/double rest pauses, post/pre fatigue, contrast sets and all kinda different rep schemes etc). Typical internet forum warrior with basic 8-12 reps are hypertrophy. Cheers mate.
I love when he says "a big guy always beats a good little guy". Classic Yates quote
Dorian has such a wealth of knowledge. I love that guy.
Dorian still seems to be in good health not like a lot of the others. Great podcast I watched the whole thing. Funny seeing his reaction to seeing himself lol.
Joe rogan and co shit on bodybuilders until they get them on the show and then they roll over
When did they shit on them? What episodes?
In fairness, Dorian Yates is THE bodybuilder. Hard not to respect him.
Avtar Sidhu not really, Ronnie, lee H, Arnold, Frank, Jay
Sammy G you kidding lol?
they do not really shit on them they just point out how bodybuilding is not as functional or healthy as other forms of exercise.. Dorian even admits this during the podcast because it is true. If Joe gave Dorian any less than maximum respect on this podcast he would look foolish, this guy put more time and effort into his training than almost everyone else. Legend.
I love Dorian. He is the best body builder.
Dorian in that pose at 5:56. My God...that must be the most visually pleasing huge physique that I've ever seen...
One of my favourite Joe Rogan podcasts. Dorian shares so much useful information about weight lifting.
Respect for Dorian, calling Shawn Ray *"gentlemen"*
I thought Dorian was a no BS guy until you tell me he called Shawn a gentleman. haha
@@allnfun6315 lol
He is gentlemen though
Never talk over Dorian.
He has always been honest regarding his AAS cycles, training and all aspects regarding his career. like the late Rich Piana did (R.I.P)
Been a die hard fan since probably 1990! Thanks for remaining a true leader!!
19 inch forearms... Wtf
Inyourhouse I have a 19 inch cock, cm I mean
Moonshine Autos lol 19 cm isnt too shabby though
I've seen Dorian's early career training sessions ! Yes he was on steroids but his workouts were absolutely "BRUTAL" !!!!!
Intense
Thank You Dorian and Mike Mentzer and Joe. Fitness is hard but very healthy.
One of the most enjoyable clips and interviews overall. Thanks JRE!!!
He’s smart he stopped taking steroids around 34 .
@Jim Jones diet is the key. they dont eat the same anymore, why would they
To take them past 40 is just dumb I have a friend who's kidneys are fucked because he couldn't stop
Tazz Hardwick just TRT forever
Look at Sly Tyson and could count Jason statham and the rock going to 50s
I think that's a factor too. A lot of the guys we see who are messed up or have passed away competed well into their 30s. Lee haney retired at 31, Ronnie didn't win til he was 35
You gotta have 15 inch forearms to make the cut for competitive arm wrestling. The man had 19. 19!! Jeez! 🔥
Thanks for posting this
Dorian is a very thoughtful person with amazing perspective on life.
Great interview Dorian is King
"Competitions are won from behind" - Dorian "The shadow" Yates.
I remember when I was 16 years old and started working out in 1983 and would always read muscle and fitness magazine and one of the pictures on the mirror wall that I created in my gym in the garage was Frank Zane! It was quite a surprise to see Dory and mention him!
Met Dorian in’97.He was freakin’awesome.
I love D.Y. attitude~"there's nobody that can out work me in the gym mentality" which actually predates Kobe Bryant's "Mamba mentality" who has gone on record to say the same! D.Y. has always been one of my favorites because he tells the truth even about his own steroid use which most bodybuilders steer clear of these days, and goes into depth about why so many ex-body builders are dropping like flies(dying)because they didn't cycle on & off as he did and Dorian is a testament to this by being in great shape these days at the young age of 57!
@4:15 Yates "It's generally accepted the 90s were the peak of competitive physiques.." So true including other major sports; basketball, football, etc.
interesting
But then for other sports it is not so true (swimming, athletics, soccer)
But certainly for bodybuilding!
What a simplistic way of explaining what over training does to the muscle. I would say it’s spot on
"A big guy always beats a little guy, right?" - Priceless quote
WHERE can i get a Dorian Yates shirt!? (Discipline, Dedication, Determination & Domination)
4:35 Man!!!! Great great question!!!
I grew up watching Dorian Yates and exercising with Lee Haney and his workout show. Much love.
I met dorian in 1993 about a week after he won the olympia ,he came to a gym in bristol for guest posing ..a total monster
I LOVE the feeling of having sore legs. I agree with Dorian, if they don’t hurt after a killer leg workout I’m not happy
His lat spread was so huge it seems like he could fly through air
I totally agree with what Dorian said about the 90s ... and that's also why he's my all time favorite bodybuilder ... mass, but combined with very beautiful (elegant) lines , conditioning, .. a very cool professional way of posing .. nowadays some bodybuilders dance or almost strip and move like girls ..
He was just flat out HUGE,
How did they not show his back and talk about it? Dorian is considered to have the best back of all time, that's what he was most famous for. You can see in the pictures how absolutely massive his delts are from the front
Greg McCauley do u mean the last?
Greg McCauley *lats
2019 and still waiting for Dorian to come back to JRE.
I used to do forearm work with dumbells. After watching this video, I abandoned it totally and did heavy deadlifts. My forearms grew really fast. Heavy dumbbells farmers walk too. The more grip strength you build the bigger the forearms grow.
the first sentence Dorian said in this clip reminded me Korg
