- The Tundra has been that go to for truck buyers who want a reliable full size truck. Under the hood is a 5.7L V8 381HP & mated to a 6-speed automatic. On the outside the 2021 Platinum brings a unique grill, bumpers, wheels, and running boards. On the inside you will find the familiar Tundra cabin with some recently updated tech. Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra Platinum the truck to buy or wait for the 2022?

There are some other full size trucks with tons of tech, but what I love about this Tundra is the reliability.
But Consumer Reports only gives Tundra a 4 out 5 in reliability. After decades this should be perfect by now.
@@normt430 consumer reports hasn't been the best at their job the last ten years or so
@@reddon1969 neither has Tundra...
Toyota 5.7 liter V-8 and the Aisin 6 speed transmission, a PERFECT combination.
After seeing the redesigned tundra, this is def still my go-to, the simple styling and abundance of features at a bargain compared to the rest of the full size truck manufacturers does it for me
You know a channel is awesome when people who can’t even drive still love to watch these videos!
Thanks for letting me share my car passion with you!
Other pickup trucks: haha look at that fool trying to look smug..
Tundra: hey guys see yall at 500k miles.
Only if you don't live in the rust belt. The maintenance is about the same on them and any other truck. With half the luxury.
It is a fact. Look up what Toyota auto techs have to say about Tundras from the rust belt. The salt rusts the frame, exhaust and 4 wheel drive really quick.
The maintenance and costs come out to the same per mile. The actually rot quicker without undercoating every year.
Reliability was one of the big reasons I bought a Toyota!
That vehicle is rugged and reliable...it also looks and rides nicely...yes, it is outdated, but may also mean less tech issues to worry about down the line...nice video JOE and shout out to Lori.
Agreed!
Can't wait to see your review of the new 2022! We hold onto our vehicles so reliability is a huge factor for us. Loved the MJ reference and that comment alone made me like you even more. Great review as always.
Customer of ours just traded in their 2000 Tundra long box with almost 400k on it. It fetched $2600 wholesale and customer picked up a 2021 TRD sport premium! Toyota makes amazing trucks! Great review!!
Your reviews are always chill haha I just watch them just to watch at this point lol
With the little Easter eggs you dtopped about sometimes a redesign goes backward, I'm thinking this may be the Tundra to get... I'm loving the analog gauges, though. That slide down rear glass is an awesome touch! Thanks for the great angles on this one, Lori!
hopefully the teaser today means you'll be seeing the 2022 in June!
You better believe it Logan!
June 2 this Tuesday they announce when releasing 2022 Tundra . Big event !
Well, it’s June
September 17, will be the full review
Thanks very much for this awesome review Joe!
I already liked the video before I even saw it... god I love the Toyota Trucks!
Joe, just wanted to thank you for the reviews of several Lexus cars. My sister bought an RX 350 today because of you. Thanks
Thanks for all you do Joe. I've got a 2012 and it looked like the same. Toyota doesn't change very fast.
Hello my friends! I had a 2016 Limited just like that one loved it I had to get rid of it lost my job I couldn’t afford the payment had 89k miles never had any problems at all!
The way you explained the cup holders was enough for me to like and subscribe lol
I just want to say I love your reviews! Can’t wait to see the new tundra review!
That really means so much Robert! Thanks for being part of the Raiti's Rides family!
Thanks for the review. I may purchase this truck next week :)
I would wait for the 2022. Word around town is that the Tundra and the Sequoia are getting a new look.
And the tundra is getting a twin turbo v8
@@EpicDrew15 it is. The same one from the lexus LS but beefed up to be stronger for towing.
What about if you were offered a killer deal!
@@aarondibenedetto6864 we will see!
Nope. It’s going to be a turbo v6. They are doing away with the v8
I love it my boy Joe keep up the work and I love the video lot and funny 😄😆🤣good 💯
Thank you for sharing I’m in the market looking. Big help.
thankyou for having the camera facing the road during the road test.. your detailed videos just get better each time. i am currently saving for a Hilux so please be gentle with her when you review one 🤣
I love my PLATINUM TUNDRA. When you lift it and put some big rims and meaty tired. Best looking truck out there! And the ability to completely roll down the whole back window! It's like a convertible with the sunroof and all the windows down!! NO ONE ELSE DOES THAT!!
Not from USA still binge watching your videos.🤙
I love he tundra ! Awesome video
Like the truck Joe! Toyota’s are monsters and can’t wait for the 2022 good review!
I am so glad that you like this one.
Wow $53,000.00! These pickup prices out of control JOE
Take a look at Ford, GM, and RAM and their prices are a lot higher on this trim level.
Who's Joe
@@itz_darkzx1013 Joe as in Joe Raiti…
@@itz_darkzx1013 Joe Mama haha gottem
Probably the most durable and reliable truck ever made.
I agree! I bought a 2021 tundra platinum and I’m super impressed! 🔥
Thx Joe! I heard that some people are going to Plano for a special event for Toyota. Hopefully the new Tundra will be there. Also, hopefully u can go there too!!
I am on the list....stay tuned!
@@RaitisRides That's amazing Joe!!! Great review today!! Pretty pumped up for the 2022 redesign!!
One of the best V log 👌....Love from India 🇮🇳.
Definitely looking forward seeing the new redesigned 2022 Tundra 4x4.
Love ur vids
Thanks for the great support!
Awesome review. Since Memorial Day is coming up I think it would be awesome if you did a review on Rams Built to Serve edition trucks. Especially the Tank Green. It's an awesome truck. Nice features any military veteran would love. 👌🏽
great vid
Love the tundra!!
We will all miss that big gas chugging naturally aspirated v8 under the hood but big changes are coming. Can’t wait to see your review on it joe so far that teaser image of the new tundra looks promising I’m liking it
I can't wait to bring it to you!
new gen mpg's isnt much better from what i'm hearing
The tundra is amazing the new one just got teased today I can’t wait for the unveiling
Trust me neither can I!
@@RaitisRides yea there’s going to be some big changes here I would definitely love to see you review the new one soon 🙏
Toyota is the #1 brand in the world hands down
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.
Great reviews! If I can make a suggestion Joe, how about having 3 or 4 different review formats you can switch to among reviews, keeps things unpredictable.
am getting mine october 2021 can't wait just sold my Ford F-150 XLT 2017 and ordered My Tundra from the dealer in early september
Good review Joe. I’ve got a 2019 TRD Pro and will never sell it. I will take reliability and capability over technology and MPGs. I realize I am in the minority but I can buy a lot of gas with the money I will not be spending replacing an Engine or Transmission. I am super excited to see the 2022, but the late model V8s will hold their value so not a huge issue if someone is on the fence and buys a 2021 and later changes their mind.
You realize $50 more per month in gas is 3 grand in just 5 years right? Love the truck but the mileage is horrendous
@@mrkrabz123 And the cost of the '22 will go up - 'cutting edge' (as far as Toyota goes) technology, new engine, new trans, and new generation. The 3.5 turbo V6 option will absolutely be calling for premium fuel. If it's a $6000 higher sticker for comparable trim - you're dead even after 10 years by your math.
The more I shake it out, the more I think you can't lose either way. I'm extremely tempted to get a '21 TRD Sport Premium now, and let the 22/23 work out the kinks. Anything to get out of my too-small Tacoma ASAP.
@@kevinhandy2490 good luck man! I’m in the market too but prices are insane so I’ll likely be waiting another year
@@mrkrabz123 You realize the 2022 Tundra Pro is approx. $75-80K? HandyMan21 Keeping his 2019 TRD Pro, that's approx $25K in savings and using your math that gives him approx 24 years in fuel?
@@mrkrabz123 You'll probably have to wait 2 years, there will be some bugs to work out with the whole new platform. Turbo charged V6 with or without hybrid will be a more complicated powerplant. Prices are crazy high too.
I had a 2015 platinum tundra. Was a fantastic truck. But this is basically identical inside and out. Leaves a lot to be desired 6 years later
And it says TUNDRA here to remind what truck you bought…. 😀 Joe and humor blended together in his reviews as usual.
That’s how you do a damn review boss! I bought a 2017 Platinum in the same color and gotta say apart from the grill and headlights/fog lights, my truck is exactly the same.
I appreciate you saying that!
Great review! I'm about to pull the trigger on a '21 tundra nightshade edition. Not because I'm skeptical of the coming redesign, I'm actually very much looking forward to it. That said, I want my next truck to be my last truck and the current tundra is all but guaranteed to last for as long as I want to drive it. It's missing some tech and refinement, but it's rock solid where it matters most and it's less expensive than most of the competition at about $50k before any sort of discount, which may not even be possible get a discount in the current market.
So should I drop $50k on a '21 limited nightshade or wait for the new one?
Do they make a trd version of the Toyota tundra Joe. I saw the 2022 looking forward to the video of the 2022 have a good day
The only outdated side of this truck is the inside and mainly the dash and features .The outside looks as good as anything on the market.
That gloves box is about an half mile deep, I like the echoes 👍🏻🇯🇲
I got this exact same model , year , and color . I added the Following TRD parts, dual exhaust which sounds amazing , front & rear sway bars, shocks , intake . Added the factory console safe for my valuables! Luv this truck !
Did you get any more/less pwr gains from the dual exhaust and/or better mileage, and isn’t there already a front sway bar on the platinum?? Thanks in advance…just boght a ‘21 Platinum and was considering the same…
definitely wait. This Tundra is an antique
that backseat gon come in handy 😏😏
Thanks Joe and Lori !
Nice truck for $53k.......some of the others are $70k to $80k. Crazy
Loooove my tundra!
Good truck, and review, thinking about a TSS edition but I'm wondering, were you exhausted doing this or was the speed of the playback slightly slow? You sounded more yourself at 1.25 X speed than at normal speed.
That Silver Sky Metallic (for every model except the Camry and Highlander, which for the latter, is Celestial Silver Metallic) looks great on this Tundra. I can't wait for the 2022 refresh of this truck. I'm going to miss the ungodly sound of that 3UR-FE's clutch fan when you first start it up.
It's going to be exciting for sure!
@@RaitisRides I agree.
yep that wonderful clutch fan noise...
@@jedknutson8373 Same with the LX570 which has 2 hp/lb-ft more than the Tundra.
@@jedknutson8373 I wonder why the clutch fan sound on the 2GR-FKS V6 in the Tacomas don't sound that loud.

7:55 wow that sounds awesome
Heck yeah!
That truck look nice bro
16:08 ON THROTTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow it sounds awesome
I am so glad that you like this one.
If you don't care about fuel economy, or having the latest, greatest tech, great truck to buy and own
The V8 is a legendary engine, and its on its last legs at Toyota
That engine is reason enough to get one now.
The one you want: The TRD Pro, with that catback exhaust
Very good point!
Nah the platinum. U can easily putthat exhaust on a platinum and get all the wxtras that a pro doesnt have. Thats what i did with mine
Just traded a 2019 GMC Sierra Denali for a new, to me, 2021 Tundra Platinum in Wind Chill Pearl with black interior. I love the Tundra!!
Just got the exact same truck, wind chill & black interior. Absolutely love it! Loading up the family & dive gear this weekend and headin’ over to Arkansas. ❤️
Not bad of a truck at all for what it is super nice and reliable 👌🏽
welcome back too Texas. Did you hit the pecan lodge?
I've Owned an F150 and Silverado and loved them, time to give the Toyota Tundra a chance. I hear that engine can run foerver.
You won’t regret it!!! Been a long time f150 owner and pulled the trigger a couple of years ago on a Tundra TRD Pro and I will never buy anything else.!
It really can!
Years ago Trucks had 3 gears , no we get an automatic state of the art technology with 6 speeds, reliable, back up camera, hydraulic steering wheel, be glad u can afford a nice truck like this one, at this pace and with prices increasing every day all we are gonna be able to afford is a golf cart
"If you're gonna be using that P word... No, not that word you sicko! I'm talking about Platinum" LOL
Awesome Looking Pickup Truck As Always Joe, Also That's One Clean & Sexy Pickup Truck. This Pickup Truck Is Definitely Good For Road Trips, Going Shopping & Towing Some Things.
Wow 🤩 😳 😯 since 1999 The Toyota Tundra Has Been Out Unbelievable
That 6 spd auto transmission is down a few gears, and should be 8 to 10 gears. Would help the MPG's as well.
I have the toyota tundra platinum 2021 I love it
Thanks for sharing that great input from your ownership!
I own a 06 Tundra with 196k miles without any problems. I plan to wait for the 2022 Tundra with the hybrid engine.
Bout time someone reviewed something other than a Pro!
GRT8 review RR
Man I miss my 2007 Tundra Crewmax in pyrite mica that I had for ten years it was very good to me. Someone crashed into my parked Tundra in 2017
I'll wait to see what the redesign looks like before I let go of my 2012 Tundra.
Yeah, it's outdated, yeah, the fuel economy isn't good, but it's been so freaking reliable, and that goes a long way with me.
If I don't like the 2022 Tundra, then I may look at the Silverado Trail Boss.
Trail Boss looks good to me. Front end of the new Tundra I just can't get pass and the new price tags.
update?
@@mazda_rt24-p LOL. Still have my old Tundra. Decided to keep her a little longer. She's paid off and these prices are a bit crazy now.
My dad used to have a Sierra from like 2013 or 14 and that truck was a piece of junk so he bought a Tundra in 2016 when they redesigned it. Sure was a great truck, put 60k miles on it and traded it a few months ago for a Genesis g70 because we had no use for a truck anymore and 13.8 mpg and he wanted to go back into a sport sedan.
The g70 is an awesome car but I do miss some things about the Tundra, specifically the sound of that V8 when my dad floored it on the interstate ramp.
Love the overall look...I’d be happy with any truck but I’ve come to love Toyota reliability... I want vehicles I can count on knowing it’s not gonna break down.. you can have all the bells and whistles in the world but they don’t mean crap if your truck’s sitting in the shop..
Tundra has the biggest cab!!! Very confortable
Joe u forgot to hit that tow/haul mode button
The 2022 trail hunter trim is going to be insane they just filed us patents for a 4.0 L twin turbo v8 I would 2000% wait for the redesign
Things are getting exciting!
@@RaitisRides das rite
not a chance its 4L. Not going to happen. Get back to me if you think different. 3.5 with and without hybrid, and all electric in 2022
if the truck is due out soon the patents also would have been in preproduction era not now.
@@02hreblue30 It’s literally been patented, they’re truly trying to compete with the other performance trucks.
This truck been out since 2014 still great truck but old don't see many of these like used to might be cheaper buy waiting for 2022 new model come out. These are reliable trucks showing its age now always liked the Tundra replacement of T100.
Actually 2007
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one Ramon!
@@mattmekhaeil Good call!
I only consider vehicles that will hold 2 Jimmy Johns subs in the door panel along with a bottle of Slice to wash it all down.
I like the way that you think man. Good call!
Simple and reliable is just perfect for me
But Consumer Reports only gives this a 4 out of 5 in reliability. It should be perfect after selling the same thing for decades.
After hearing about the redesigned Tundra I’ll wait for it. This looks cool nevertheless
I agree with you!
Wait for the 2022 for sure.
It's a great truck except for the 10MPG in the city! In CA where it's almost $4 a gallon, it's something to seriously consider. I stopped going for coffee since it made the cost $10 :)
That is a nice truck for a good price ..exterior look 4 out of 5, interior look 3.5 out of 5, reliability 5 out of 5, gas guzzler 2.5 out of 5.. nice video JOE and Lori
Thanks for sharing that great input Michel!
After seeing videos about the 22 tundra like I wouldn't buy that and I would be more interested in buying an older design somewhere between 2018-2021 model. That 22 tundra already has problems I considered it a lemon which sucks because originally I had high hopes for it. This video of a 21 is great.
Tundra is such a solid design. Great looking truck. Thanks King!👑
I know a person well who has one and it’s a really really nice truck in and out without the outrageous price tags that some of the top trim competitors have. I’m not quite sure why it sells so poorly in comparison to the domestic name plates in the truck world
It really is brother!
Beautiful truck! No thanks to the 2022 Hybrid or Twin Turbo V6.
That’s a PLATINUM!? Toyota gotta step it up big time!
Cool design very muscular very powerful not sure I like the interior of this truck but still looks great 😎
I bought this exact truck a week ago for the reliability! The last of the real ones!
Tanner, I’m looking for one, 21 Platinum or 1794, as well; where did you find yours!?
Can you get a crew max with an eight foot bed???
Is the starter still hard to get to?
How are the stereos in the platinums?
My vote would’ve to go with a RAM, to be honest...never been a Toyota fan.
That being said, another awesome review and commentary 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼.
And, can’t forget a thanks and a tip of the🎩 to Lori.
I can totally understand where you are coming from.
The Dodge Ram is a great comfortable truck with the lightest handling on the road. The Hemi just zips..lol
Consumer Reports says the Ram I the top truck today too!
We bought a 2021 before they got rid of the V8. Also got the front bench seat.
Witnessed a Toyota twin turbos 5.7 liter V-8 Tundra pull 10s in the 1/4 mile.
I think waiting for the 2022 model is a better idea because IIHS said this car did poor in a crash test
