I love this video. The Michelle Yeoh clip with the motorcycle that was all her no stunt double and no wires. She's talked about it in a lot of interviews in the past. She's said that back then they rarely used wires and stunt doubles they did it all themselves. That's why I love her older movies so much because when I'm watching her fight scenes I know that it is truly her 😁😁
It is not done in one take. She did some parts and stuntmen did others and they cut it together. The shot where the motorcycle comes from left of screen and actually lands onto the moving train is a stuntman. The shot with her on the bike on the train is done with wires.

6:30 I love that Amy recognises the stylistic quality of that 'floaty wirework' quality to HK and Chinese martial arts choreography. It's one of the reasons I love wuxia (lit. martial hero) cinema genre so much (Bride with White Hair, Hero, CT; HD, Reign of Assassins). I've read in places that it's an exaggerated version of qinggong (Gentle/weightless skill). I understand why people don't like it, but it's ultimately a stylistic convention.
I can appreciate the style even though I don't particularly enjoy it. All movies break from reality in lots of ways, but the floaty wirework stuff breaks it a bit too much/too far for me.
I’m more or less the opposite of what Clint said-I like the floaty wirework when it’s full on fantasy like Crouching Tiger, as opposed to when it intrudes on realism like in Ip Man
@@asherandai1000 I understand where you going but what about flying and stuff like that I feel that that breaks from reality a bit too much. I can imagine walking on a planet with weaker gravity would appear floaty but not too downright unrealistic and its in the name of the technic too , lightness skill, they're supposed to be floating like a feather.
Ang Lee stated that he wanted Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon to have a very dream like, fairy tail feel to it so her interpretation is pretty much exactly what he was aiming for.
I like it well enough where it's _supposed_ to be fantastical. Even then, it has to be done really well to sell it to the audience. In 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', for me there were too many shots where, rather than the performers appearing just to be incredibly light on their feet, it really did look like they were being swung around on wires and reaching out to try and get contact between their feet and the surfaces that they were supposed to be springing from.
Where I definitely _don't_ like wire work is where the action is supposed to be realistic, but it's obvious the performers are on wires because they can't achieve the moves through athleticism alone.

@@didderjade I'm curious about this like Clint. Who pays and who actually does the labor? Do production companies have cement/concrete workers on standby?
@@dante12219 For real though
@@didderjade I think the scenes in this video where shot on a movie set highway that they rented, not on a highway of an actual city.

He shouldn't be on the couch if he hasn't seen these main movies
I'm so glad they reacted to sword fight in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, which is absolutely phenomenal. I wish they also talked about Zhang Zi Yi (unlike Michelle Yoeh, this was her first time doing martial arts) and did a bit more research into the BTS. Ang Li wanted his actors to be convincing as martial artists so they went under rigorous training. They were actually trained by another actor in the movie who is a martial arts instructor in real life. Also, this is a "wuxia" (martial heroes) film, which is actually a fantasy genre. These heroes possess supernatural fighting abilities, which is why the characters in this film can float.

They filmed the Winter Soldier highway scenes in Cleveland. The stretch of highway they used was going to be heavily modified soon anyway, so the damage was not a major issue. The choreography is second to none and whilst the floaty wire work in the film is part of the Wuxia genre they really tone it down during that fight. Got an idea to get Clint to see more movies: just "self"-isolate him. Tied to a chair in front of a TV.
With a device that won't allow him close his eyes like in "A Clockwork Orange"
@@luisaleman9512 We need to show him a bit of the ultra violence.
Luis Aleman hey i have the same last name 👋🏼
Call it Clint reacts to movie he should have already seen
I LOVE THIS EPISODE THANK YOU AMY AND CORRIDOR!!
Hahaha! I remember the "next few weeks" phase. Those were the good ol' days.

"Poor Zin."
"Oh no he liked it..he liked it a lot."
One of your coolest and most interesting, likable guests so far. She was so engaged and comfortable talking with you guys. Maybe it’s just refreshing having a lady on this channel! ^_^
I love how she described the fights as dance, would love to hear from her some more.
Didn't Syrio Forel describe swordfighting as a dance too?
omg, i love her! yesss bring in more stunt WOMEN!
Nobody:
Clint: "Is this endgame?"
He's joking
@@noble_lemon ahahahahahahhsha
When she explains how it’s a real stunt and not cgi, I’m like - well that explains why it looks so freakin good!
March 2020: "A lot of us are going to be working from home for the next few weeks"
Me in april 2021: still working from home
So nice seeing a fantastic woman on the couch with you, especially one with such a fun and bubbly personality. Definitely looking forward to more!
I loved having a stuntwoman on the show. Amy seemed so knowledgable and passionate about stunt work. I really enjoyed this episode. 💕 💕 💕
It's because you are a woman too
I loved it too.
I loved how she after Clint reacted with an ouch or two and cringed in pain by watching the hurt she put on people with " He liked it", "It was in the tummy. and "He told me to hit him harder. I liked it." in such a innocent way. =)
Amy had some great input on this one and honestly I'd love to hear more about what kind of protection they've developed for the performers. Clear tape pads and stuff, trying to do practically any of her choreography in skintight pants and a corset has to be a nightmare. Remembering back to Gui talking about how he is notorious for splitting pants and he gets to wear cargo where female stunt performers are often in practically spray on latex.
I don't know what you might think of this but perhaps reach out to Olivia Jackson for some much needed transparency for the industry. Her career was cut short in a bad negligent accident in South Africa where another crew member was also killed, says 16 other stunt people were hurt making the Res Evil series. I think maybe we should shed some light on Hollywood filming overseas possibly to cut corners on cost and safety. It's a bit somber for a series that's supposed to be so fun and awe inspiring but I think these people deserve to be recognized and their safety prioritized over our entertainment.
Olivia's story is so tragic. The studio paid her bare minimum for her career ending injury, disgusting.
I wish all the best for her.
yeah this video is genuinely horrifying, no wonder people die all the time filming that trash when they refuse to do two seperate shots for stuff like the rolling car shot in winter soldier
I hate all the high heels in film. But I think my breaking point was when the Amazons in Wonder Woman had them, and the princess in Aquaman wore them (as did his mum who had been living in the wild for 30 years). They just look silly, and make the jobs of the women who have to wear them harder.
@@Lurklen To me. It actually makes sense for Amazons to be able to do the things they do in High Heels which are incredibly dangerous if used as a weapon, but yeah I agree for the most part on regular humans trying to do crazy stuff in 'em. Trinity is another case where I'm totally fine with it. Same with Black Widow, and Atomic Blond... wait. I think the real problem is Choreography and Storytelling. When your action sucks and the lady is on high heels. Those high heels will stick out and if she's wearing high heels cuz lady wears high heels than that makes it doubly worse because than she has no character. Black Widow is supposed to be extremely feminine, but deadly. Those heels accentuate her appearance, but she's an Avenger for a reason. Those heels aren't a hinderance. The're another weapon in the inventory.
@slow poke Oh, I get that. I'm talking about it being a bit more realistic. It isnt that realistic for a 140 pound lady to tank a blow from a guy who's 180 pounds.
But adding those minor visuals would definitely help sell it. Not only that, but me personally I like this type of realism and character design.
the duel in hidden tiger, is one of the best action duel scene.
I love how she is so nice and sounds so innocent and then she can turn around and kick the crap out of you lol I love her she is awesome! Such a badass!!
Clint's reaction to "You've never seen this movie?"

Please bring stunt doubles more! Really enjoyed this episode!
This is so awesome ! Love it
She's one of the most insightful guests you guys have had on the show. I hope this isn't the last time we get to see her!
Should definitely have her on again, don’t know how all stunt specialists are so cool but hey I’m not complaining
Maybe going through intense training and often bearing with pain without complaint shapes them in some way.
Kepler They're not going to invite the assholes on tho
Ojogbane Amedu fair point but they also do speak like most people they work with are like them
6:10 The purpose of the floaty wire work is to make it feel poetic and meaningful! It's not supposed to be real, but since its well directed, acted and shot the scene feels very powerful! 10/10 for Couching Tiger Hidden Dragon!
Fun story involving Into The Badlands; I was accidentally on set while on a school trip to Dublin!
Our class was on our way to a paintball place we had rented out for most of the day, and the way we were walking to it was apparently private property, though the owner came and realized what had happened and was pretty chill about letting us keep going. That inadvertently lead to us walking through a part of the property that had been rented out as a set for Into The Badlands.
